does this mean dual writing in both +R and -R formats?

So, yeah, it looks like it.

Dual layer refers to dual layer disks like the ones `Real` films come on (twice the size of the original single layer DVDs (9gb as opposed to 4.5ish). Basically means theres less time p***ing around with DVD shrink.

It also means paying bucketloads more for blank discs, too. I`ve got a dual-layer burner but won`t use the dual-layer function that much until the cost of blanks goes down.

The best prices I can find are £3.49 for a single disc and £14.95 for a pack of 5 discs

I`ve managed to back up the entire lord of the rings trilogy onto one dual layered disc. The quality is outstanding with my own animated menu.
