Mitac Mio with Route 66 GPS £249.99 at Staples
Can`t find it on the website but it`s advertised in the paper. I think it`s a 3-day sale IIRC.

The Mitac is a damned fine wee bit of kit Mark, but it can be gotten online with the updated MioMap for £250.
TBH, I`m almost ready to buy one like that, but I`m just holding off a tad in case they do a special, or if they can offer me CoPilot 5 cheaper than £135 if I buy the unit and find the map no good.
Good price for the high street, but nothing special if you`re willing to buy via online and wait a day or two.
Biggest downside to the Mio168 btw, is it`s lack of a docking cradle...comes with a usb cable, but there are loads of variants of it now (Medion for one) that give cradles.

cheers, Jimbo : oÞ its all a bit confusing to me... nearly bought a hp with tomtom prior to xmas, but thought i would wait until the sales, i am always willing to buy online, not just to save money, but i hate the shops, and the salesmen that always think they know best!
At least on here you get an unbiased, knowledgable advice, from those with nothing to gain (ie sales commissions),
once again thanks,
mark.

Hi Jimbo,
I`ve been looking all day, didn`t find the mitac at less than £319 online, could you post a link?
similarly to the medion, is that the PNA 100?, best price I found for that was £349,
Cheers,
Dave

You can get the Mitac MioMap 168 (UK) Pocket PC including Car Kit (Updated Version) £249.94 incl. VAT (free delivery) here
I was wondering how good the Route 66 software was? The same company that sells the Mitac MioMap for £250 also sells a version of Route 66 [Route 66: Navigate Britain 2004 (Wired)] for £141.95

Yeah Pavlov, same place. Global Positioning Systems, and apparently damned good on service.
Dunno if it`s true, but if you all want to wait a week or so....... ;)
I only need to talk to one of them direct to see if they can do anything about CoPilot5 before I plump, but I`m looking at Mio168 with MioMap at £250, then possibly another £140 for CPL 5
(Oh, and Mark, the Mio beats the HP`s hands down on screen size, colour, looks, integrated GPS, external GPS included (usually), and not hard wired to the car!)
Mind you, think the HP`s/compaq`s have faster processing, but I found the Mitac *more* than capable.....if you could put up with it`s annoying little whine when you touch anything :D

Hmmm...just had another look over that site and found summat I am *not* impressed about with the 168`s! >:(
There is NO mention on any of the Mitac 168`s that the external antennae is included.
They do offer a £20 external MMC antennae, but that would detract from usage for me.
(I have to remove it from the car if going into a club etc, don`t have the time to coil up the cable or disconnect and reconnect all the time! the 168 I had came with a little antennae that clipped to the external port on the Mio`s integrated one...dead quick, dead easy)
Now, I found that on quite a few occasions, especially heavy cloud cover or at night, I needed to connect the external to get a signal.
(remember I am in Scotland though, so satellite signal strength is usually lower up here!)
Dave, if you`ve ordered one, can you confirm if you do or don`t get the antennae?
