RE: Signed albums on Ebay query

Just ask yourself one question,

If it is genuine, it must be worth a lot to genuine collectors, so why do they need to sell it on ebay...

RE: Xbox Console Online Deals

Play.com have them at £79.99, but are out of stock.

Went to Woolies where you can get it for £99.99 with 2 out of 5 offered games, supposedly worth £19.99 each (can be got elsewhere for less). Stopped by a shopper who told me about the Argos deal at £99.99 with a "free" megapack worth £104.99, which we went for and got.
Amazingly enough I got sealed boxes ;-)
Well pleased :-)

RE: so i had my first day of trading today.......

There`s little fresh veg in many of the Cambridge village shops is it worth trying to supply some of them? Or visit the village green once a week like the chip shop van does? (I have family in Over)

Edit: a photo of the van on your website might help, so people know what to look for (number plate obscured and B&Q hinges not showing :-))

"The boys at the oil depot are doing a magnificent job.
Brubby.

Yes, I think most sane people would think the same.

Bigarse man is strangely quiet...

RE: Home Brewing

It`s still the case, the gin kit there is the best part of £20 for 5 litres of half strength Gin "flavour" drink. By the time it`s bottled you`d be lucky to have the equivelant of 2 litres of gin, which I`m sure can be got for not much more than £10 a litre at the supermarket.

I`ve never tried them myself, may be it`s just me but I would be wary of something you have to treat with activated charcoal before you can drink it :-)

RE: Home Brewing

I don`t think you`ll go wrong there, that`s a good kit. First time through, follow the instructions to the letter. Beer from a barrel tends to be more sparkling than fizzy, ie more real ale like.

You can go the separate ingredients route and I did when I was brewing before, you get the personal satisfaction of really producing your own beer and can produce reproductions of many beers, downside is it`s a more expensive way of doing it, takes more hands on time and space and does go wrong occasionally. An analogy would be the difference between an authentic curry you made from natural ingredients yourself and buying a good quality takeaway.

Start with kits (you can get many based on real beer recipes now) and take it from there if you get hooked on the hobby.

Real lagers are made in a completely different way from homebrew ales (ie low temperature fermentation) so are much harder to reproduce at home, though reasonable facsimilies can be produced.

Sounds like you`re getting good advice from the shop, but come back if you want any more of ours or have specific questions. I`d love to have shop nearby but my nearest is a fair drive so I have to mail order (OK internet shop)

Dave

RE: Home Brewing

I`ve just got back into homebrewing after a 20 year break and I think the kits have moved on a lot. Spending £9.00 or more pounds on a non budget beer kit will yield results as good or better than the pub, start with a budget one and you may be a bit dissapointed. Do a good beer first and then decide whether to try a cheaper one. I`d also start with 1 litre or 2 litre PET fizzy drink type bottles first, if primed with the right amount of sugar you`ll get a good fizzy brew, without the need for gas- as already stated. If sediment becomes too much of a pain you can invest in a barrel later.

Are you a lager or bitter/real ale man? Lager is harder to get right.

RE: Any moped/scooter drivers out there

I used to sit in my 20mpg people mover crawling to work through Oxford traffic, bought a 50cc honda scooter I can drive on my car licence, get there quicker, and I worked out if it lasts 3 years it will have paid for itself in the fuel savings...
`Nuff said
Dave
PS It`s limited to 30mph, but I only commute on 30mph roads so that`s not a problem

RE: Mitac Mio with Route 66 GPS £249.99 at Staples

The maps are dated mid 2004 and include the M6 toll and the Silverstone Bypass and full duelling of the A43 between the M40 and Northampton which was only completed last year if I recall correctly.
Miomap looks like a perfectly good GPS to me (not having tried any others) but there is no equivelant software for the desktop. The only desktop software is for importing/cropping maps. I would have liked to be able to look at maps and plan routes on my PC as well as the mio.

RE: Mitac Mio with Route 66 GPS £249.99 at Staples

RE: Mitac Mio with Route 66 GPS £249.99 at Staples

:) Jimbo you`ll be pleased to know they haven`t removed the external antenna, and it also comes with the earphones, the miomap program and a 256Mb SD card (I was expecting a 128Mb). All in all a very nice looking package, though I haven`t had a chance to play yet.

Dave

After a Quick play:

OMFG This is less than half the size of a cd case (albeit a bit deeper) yet has an amazing screen and can tell me the number of my house through the GPS :o :o

RE: Mitac Mio with Route 66 GPS £249.99 at Staples

Jimbo, I ordered the £249 one with miomap (based on Destinator 3 according to sites across the pond) and updated car kit. When it gets here I`ll let you all know exactly what I got for the money.

Dave

RE: Mitac Mio with Route 66 GPS £249.99 at Staples

Hi Jimbo,
I`ve been looking all day, didn`t find the mitac at less than £319 online, could you post a link?
similarly to the medion, is that the PNA 100?, best price I found for that was £349,
Cheers,
Dave

RE: Another Philips progressive scan problem

Cheers for that Paul, I`ll put the component lead in the drawer until I get a progressive scan DVD player then.

Dave

Another Philips progressive scan problem

My Philips DVD-763SA DVD player can output YUV and my Philips plasma 42PF9945 has YPbPr inputs. I hooked them together with a profigold component lead and the TV says the format is not available? It`s supposed to be able to take YPbPr 480p, 576p, 1080i

Have I got them set up wrong or will the plasma "only" take a progressive scan signal?

Dave

RE: Phillips Plasma at Currys £1999

Jimbo, please don`t tell me I just bought a pile of poo, be honest, but be gentle...
Dave

Phillips Plasma at Currys £1999

Not sure how much of a bargain this actually is but we went in to look at a 20" lcd and bought one of these instead:

http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1991981109.1095113116@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccladcmhjmgiemcflgceggdhhmdfhm.0&page=Product&sku=434021

Can`t find it online for anything close to this price. (Other than Currys website)

Nextbase tablet if you really want compact, £249.99 with battery from gadgetshop.com. Dead impressed.

RE: Anyone Here Own Tropical Fish?? (Advice Needed)

My one recommendation to add is get a thermometer and check it regularly. I too returned to tropical fish after a long absence and couldn`t believe how well my new tank settled down, I had baby platies born and growing up in it two weeks after setting it up. Then the thermostat on the heater malfunctioned and by the time I realised it the temperature in the tank was nearly 40 degrees centigrade and I had no fish left....

argos alba dvd45 back on sale

This is back in your local Argos store for £29.99, I was warned I might get a different brand, but I got the Alba, region hack I believe is:

1 turn on your dvd45
2 open disc tray either using eject button on the player or the open button on the remote
3 press 2812
4 a menu should pop up, press enter untill 9 appears
5 your dvd player is now region free.

Not tried it yet,

Dave

RE: Smoking in Pubs

I wouldn`t have a problem with a pub that had a big notice on the door that said:

"This pub is in favour of smoking, and so we can`t guarantee a smoke free area"

Then I`d know to move on up the road and find somewhere else...

There are plenty of pubs that can get it right, but a lot that don`t.
