Cheap Gamecube games at Woolworths?

misterpol (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 27th December 2004, 17:32

I was having a look at the sale stuff in Woolworths (Falkirk) and I couldn`t find the Gamecube display they had there last week. One of the shop assistants told me that they were discontinuing selling Gamecube games and were selling the remaining stock off cheap. She went through the back and brought a pile of games out - the prices ranged from £35 for Metroid Prime Echoes (only a couple of quid off really...) down to £4.99 for some of the older games. I picked up FZeroGX and Soul Caliber 2 for £4.99 each.

I`m not sure if this is a national or local decision by Woolies but it could be something to keep an eye on.

National decision, in-stores only. Promotions are store specific.

There are certain games at £4.99 like the aforementioned F-Zero GX, WWE Crush Hour, Soul Calibur II, Starfox Adventures etc etc.. then more at £9.99 Final Fantasy : CC, Mario Kart: DD!! and various other low price-points.

Sounds like the beginning of the end of the cube? Is it being phased out - seems to be cheap everywhere!!!

AFAIK GameCube production stopped early in 2003. The console prices dropped but sales picked up a lot more than predicted. They then started producing them again and have done ok since. Not up there with the xbox and ps2 but with the Mario and Metroid franchise games exclusively on the GameCube things are fine. The Nintendo DS is out soon (in Europe) and maybe they will review the situation then.

When GC production was stopped it was only a temporary thing, as they had warehouses full, guess they exceeded customer demand unlike Microsoft and Sony ;)

Worldwide figures last I saw GC was "only" 1 or 2 million units behind XBox, In Europe they are fairly neck and neck, in USA XBox is ahead, in JPN GC is way ahead. Both are significantly behind PS2 in terms of sales.

I agree, the Gamecube is well underated. I have an XBox, PS2, and GC, and find that the GC is the one that gets played the most.

Mario Party, Mario Golf, are favourites of all the family. Donkey Konga is great too.

Any sub-£10 game should be a bargain, and well worth the money.

Cheap import Sony PSP & Nintendo DS games & consoles here !

The Gamecube is bar far the best console.

So what if the games are a bit childish.

They are fun & that is what Consoles are supposed to be !

I`ve just imported Mario Tennis & Mario Party 6 which are excellent games & are Gamecube Only.

:)

I have been engrossed in Pikmin over the holidays - a great game that is original and fun.
