Verbatim 25 discs 4xDVD-R £14.99

Not listed on their website but The Computer Shop (formerly Time / Tiny) are doing spindles of 25 Verbatim 4x DVD-R for £14.99.

Haven`t tried any yet so I not sure which dye these have (should be MMC but could be CMC). However, Verbatim discs are usually very good quality.

When you can get Ritek G04 discs for about a tenner for 25 this isn`t really a bargain for me..

So where can you get 25 Ritek discs for a tenner on the high street? That`s what the original poster was talking about.

Yes, we KNOW it`s generally much cheaper to order online, especially in bulk, but some people prefer to nip down the road and buy a small number discs there and then, without having to wait a few days or pay for delivery.

When the difference in price between buying 25 discs online or on the high street is only a fiver, the delivery cost would often cancel out most of this saving anyway on such a small order, especially since most online retailers have surcharges for orders placed by customers in certain areas such as Northern Ireland where I live.

Apart from anything else, I reckon £14.99 is pretty reasonable for 25 Verbatim discs, so thanks to the original poster for a helpful tip all round.

(PS - if anyone from Northern Ireland is interested in this Verbatim offer, the shop in question has an outlet at the Connswater Centre in east Belfast.)

So this is one outlet somewhere on an industrial estate in Merseyside? (a) That`s no use to most of us and (b) it`s not on a high street either. ;-)

I think, on balance, that the original post was much more helpful to a lot more people and did not deserve the put-down.

(a)Wasn`t a put down.
(b)maybe not much use to `most of us` but it is to me. Hence the :)
(c)judging by the amount of responses and `thank you``s, seems not many others think it`s a bargain either.
Making an observation that there are better prices available elsewhere isn`t necessarily negative you know..especially when compared to cheaper, (probably) more compatible products available elsewhere. Even online with postage.
So, come on, someone, anyone..have you bought these then?.....tumbleweed...... ;-)

Lighten up.
Hope you aren`t offended or put off from posting bargains in the future blinky. When I said not really a bargain "for me"...

No probs then Ste - your post just sounded a bit critical of someone who was offering a well intentioned tip and I think it`s good to encourage as many people as possible to post about bargains here.

They were £12.99 a month or so ago but limited to 2 packs per customer - I got 10 packs at the time spread over a weeks buying. They were all MCC and the best DVD-R media I`ve ever had!

I do use Datasafe G04 media aswell and at less than £10 per 25 with 99p shipping at certain weekends from SVP - their value cannot be beaten.

Bur the Verbs ARE the best - I have the burn graphs to prove it! and I dont think I`ll ever see them at that price again!

Just checked the dye type from the media code
Media code/Manufacturer ID MCC 01RG20

Ritek dye quality seems to be increasingly variable (see forums over at CD Freaks if you don`t believe me). The quality of G04 discs seems very variable. Also very few manufacturers have enabled their drives to burn Ritek G05 (-R) and Ritek R03 (+R) at the 8x speed which Ritek claims for these disks (NEC actually removed the 8x capability for G05 from the 2500 1.07 firmware). In fact Ritek are apparently researching on G06 to replace G05.

Mitsubishi (Verbatim`s parent company) discs are known to be one of the leaders (Tayo Yuden are the best). These discs will burn at 8x with very low PI and PO errors. G04`s don`t always burn reliably at 4x never mind any higher.

Would you rather use cheap media or reliable media?

In comparison for the same product Aria charges £31+p&p, Dabs £19+P&P and while SVP don`t sell the spindles but the printable Verbatims (in jewel cases) are around 80p now.

I generally use Bulkpaq Printable +R 8x discs which give very low error rates. These cost me around £12-13 at a local computer fair for £25 but then I have to add on the admission fee = £2-3. I believe SVP sell these for a similar price but then I have to add on postage and have to wait for the postman.

Therefore, I think the actual offer is good value for a true top quality DVD-R.
