Free DVD rentals for a month

Jon_C (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 7th February 2004, 16:40

I got this email from www.splashdvd.com today and it seems like a good deal. I reckon that even after the free trial is up I will probably continue with it but otherwise, remember to cancel after a month!

Mods, I think it`s OK to post this as I am giving full details of the offer and giving Splash their dues by saying where I found it and including the rest of the guff in their email. Please correct me if I`m wrong, however.

"The £2 off sale ends this Sunday so this is absolutely your last chance to get in for the best bargains, but, as always, we have been working very hard to come up with more innovative, awe-inspiring offers! ... and we think we have found one...

FREE UNLIMITED DVD RENTAL FOR A MONTH

In our endless quest for the best deals out there, we`ve discovered LOVEFiLM.com. These people not only share our passion for film, but are driven by our enthusiasm for breaking with old-world thinking to bring you superb value for money.

LOVEFiLM are the largest online DVD rental service in the UK and they have a selection of over 16,000 films to choose from. You choose the films you want to rent online and they`ll send them out to you postage-paid. If you can`t watch your film immediately, don`t worry - there are no late fees! When you return them (return postage is free, by the way), LOVEFiLM will send out your next film the same day. There`s no limit to the number of films you can watch and you can keep up to two discs at any one time.

We`ve managed to get you one month membership of the LOVEFiLM service absolutely free (worth £14.99), with no strings attached. If at the end of your trial, you want to cancel, that`s fine. But if you continue, for the cost of one DVD (from the high street, that is!) you can get to watch as many films as you want. They are especially good for those hard-to-find films which we don`t carry, since their selection covers almost every rental title available in the UK!

All you have to do is visit LOVEFiLM, enter your details, and fill up your queue with great films now!

Please note: Your promotional code should be pre-entered on the lovefilm website, but if it is not, just enter SPLASH548 in the relevant box.

More CDs, GAMES, and DVDs added to stock sale.

Been with lovefilm for 3 weeks now of a 4 week trial.
Initially seemed very good with fast turnaround of DVDs, but lately have been very slow.
One DVD I sent back took 8 days till I got next DVD back, last 2 DVDs had a turnaround time of 4 days each, not that great in my opinion.
Lovefilm don`t seem to work weekends (no e-mails replied to either) so send a DVD back on a Friday and they wont process it till monday at least, then it`s gotta get through the post to you.
Not too bad for a free trial but not good if you are paying £15/pm....I`m looking to cancel.

Adus,

If you enter the promotional code in the correct box (as stated in the original post) it should give you a one-month trial. The two-week one is what they normally offer without promotional codes.

Just got an e-mail saying they`ll extend my free month by a week. I reckon the catch with this is they`re counting on people not returning all their DVDs and cancelling by the end of the trial, then they can charge your card £19.99 for the next month`s rental (you have to register card for the trial)... so be careful out there! I`ll also agree that they start fast, and slow down, what`s the betting they`ll slow riiiiight down as the end of your free month deadline approaches...

Personally, I`m sending all DVDs back, clearing my queue and cancelling my membership a good 10 days ahead of the closing of the month.

I also haven`t appreciated the `add more DVDs to your queue! add more DVDs to your queue!` emails EVERY DAY - don`t they know I`m only sticking around for a month! Anyway, a good freebie, and I`ve caught up on a few movies I missed at the cinema...
