Fuji A405 Digital Camera 4Megapixels £99 @ Currys

It says 4 efective megapixels, but then it also states 2megpixels.

I`ve got the A203 and it`s superb for a beginner or amateur.

It`s really a 2 Megapixel camera, but like a lot of Fujis, it can output a larger, interpolated picture, which just takes up more space, really. Still, it`s got a proper zoom lens and is an excellent price. Wonder how cheap they`ll be next year?

Anyone know if they`re any good. Seriously tempted to hammer the plastic!

Braindead

Don`t know if the Fuji is any good but if you really want to hammer the plastic spend a bit more and get the Kodak DX 6340 from Boots at £149. 3.2M pixel with 4x optical zoom.

See this thread.

Sam.

Having read the following in the General forum I`m inclined to go for Fuji as prefered manufacturer. Kodak seemed lacking

I`d second the comments re Fuji - my wife uses one at school, (203 I think), and the image quality is great - even blown up to A4 on normal paper, the images look pretty good.

I dont know about that I have my eye on the Kodak 6340 also and It has have very good reviews. Kodak has one of the best colour outputs plus its cheeper 2mp brother just beat all the 3mp cameras in a recient mag review (on image quality).

I haven`t been to Currys yet, but I saw a similar deal with PC WOrld (not sure if its the same model), so I went there today. I was greeted by an extremely surly and bored salesman, and I felt as if I was intruding on his time! Any questions I had regarding the camera was greeted with monosyllabic answers, and it took all my self-control not to shout at this guy.
I was all set to buy it, when he started pushing a 3-year extended warranty (£20) for "peace of mind". Furthermore, he claimed that the 1-year warranty that comes with this product was for the first 28 days with the store, and thereafter, I`d have to deal with the manufacturer. In other words, he claimed that if anything went wrong say, after 3 months, I`d have to ship it to Fuji at my own cost.
He also claimed that this was a "national policy" followed by "all retailers"! This is news to me. In the past, when I have bought anything, and it went wrong in the first 12 months, I`ve taken it back to the store, who have repaired/replaced it.
My question is: was this guy talking through his hat?

I`m quite keen to buy this camera soon, be it from Currys or PC World - would appreciate your advice.

Cheers!

Tarzan

I do work in retail and i think this sounds pants to me
If it blows up after 11 months then its Pc world who will have to sort it out.
Than can send it for repair and not give you a new one, but not tell you tough titty ring up the Manufacturer and sort it yourself.
I have heared officialy shops can still have responsability for a product for up to 7 years after purchase but thats a mine field.

Ps Pc-world are pants had the same prob myself when buying a Ram upgrade.
Got very short with my questions when he realised a was going to fit it my self. 15 quid my arse.

"..was this guy talking through his hat?"

As you were in PC World, I take it that`s a rhetorical question...

It`s always the retailer`s job to sort out warranty claims in the first instance, but of course you may do better going directly to the manufacturer/importer anyway. Extended warranties are a scam, and Dixons Group have been hauled over the coals several times for overselling them.
