Cheap, hackable portable DVD with screen.
Seen a few cheap portables here and there - anyone recommend one fitting the criteria above?

2 choices here at Richer sounds.

Argos are discounting the older Venturer P166W for £119.99 . It has a 6.5 in screen and is very easily hacked to play both all regions and vcd/svcd. Its a little larger than the top flight machines but sill very portable.

Hi mirror,
What`re the hacks? Can`t see it on the list on this site. Will it handle MPGs?
Also, Richer seem to have a multi region one for £99 - the Yamada PDV500. Anyone know if it`s any good?

RE: Cheap, hackable portable DVD with screen.
Just realised Richer are doing the R2 Yamada PDV500 at £99 and the multi region one at £119! Does anyone know the hack, so I can save myself £20?

Mirror
Where (ie. which shop) have you seen the venturer for £119 at argos? The website states it is £159
RE: Cheap, hackable portable DVD with screen.
These are `Managers Specials` ie. ex display or returns but fully guaranteed with all the bits including a carry bag that doubles as a car headrest support. Ask at you local stores.
RE: Cheap, hackable portable DVD with screen.
These are the on line prices in the store they are more expensive though they are supposed to price match if you produce a print out of the web site.
Can`t find a hack for the Yamada 500 anywhere though the price differential between R2 and multiregion suggests there is one rather than a chipping job.
Interestingly speaking to a local computer store who were selling the 500 for £169 multi-region they were very annoyed with the Richer Sounds prices claiming that they were only making £10 per sale.

Anyone got any more suggestions? 7" screen, small size and good battery life important.
