RE: Are Play getting faster?
Ordered "The Mummy" on Thursday, posted on Friday, arrived today. Impressive if you consider that it travelled through Europe to reach the Greek town I live in.
RE: Halloween
Last time I saw the 2 disc Halloween for 9.99 was at Play, a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I didn;t get it then and now it`s back at 14.99..
Go to http://www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk/ and search for it
Looking for online hardware retailer
I want to buy a (chipped) DVD player and I`m looking for retailers who ship to EU destinations at reasonable cost.
Also, anyone knows if there`s a price search engine for hardware? Something like dvdpricecheck.co.uk?
Thanks

RE: Films you REALLY need on top notch DVDs, but still no sign....
Leaving Las Vegas....
It`s the only film I still have on VHS tape and I want to replace it with a SE DVD badly...

RE: Any opinions on Sony DVP-NS300/400?
The new Sony NS305 plays CD-R/RW, DVD-R/+RW/-RW and MP3s.
Interesting, eh?

Grundig Xenaro
Anyone knows if Grundig`s new Xenaro players can be hacked?

RE: RCE do they work on DVD-ROMS for pc`s????????
From the Rec.Video.DVD FAQ: "Regional codes also apply to DVD-ROM systems, but affect only DVD-Video discs, not DVD-ROM discs containing computer software"
RE: RCE do they work on DVD-ROMS for pc`s????????
If the discs check the region on both the software and the drive you may have problems.
RE: Movie plays with Jerks
These are your options:
a) If you only want ot speed up DVD playback, get a dedicated decoder card (Creative Labs DXR3 or Hollywood Plus). They offer the best quality but you also need some (free) software to set region codes
b) If you want an overall graphics speed increase, get one of the following ATi cards: Rage Pro, Xpert2000 Pro or the new Radeon VE. Go to http://www.ati.com for more info.
RE: DVD screen shots hoe are they done????
Does it work with PSP? I tried a couple of other (less powerful) programs and they can`t capture the video overlay used by almost all VGA cards. All I got was a black screen.
RE: Movie plays with Jerks
In this case get an Xpert2000 Pro with 32MB RAM and TV Out
RE: Desperately Seeking DVD-ROM Hacks...
Jimbo, you`re my hero and the reason I`m a member of the DVD reviewer forums. Your thread about the 370`s hack brought me here :)
But...you have to admit that you know nothing about DVD-Rom hacks. I`m the king of this realm and as a true king I won`t retract anything :)

RE: DVD screen shots hoe are they done????
WinDVD2000 and PowerDVD. WinDVD`s shortcut key is hidden somewhere in the help file (it`s `P`, I believe)
If you don`t mind breaking a few copyright laws, go to http://dvd.da.ru and download one of them (or both ;)
RE: DVD screen shots hoe are they done????
or you can press your software player`s screen capture key....
RE: Region cx lock out on Compaq DVD-ROM DRD8080B
The limit is in the drive`s firmware but the counter can be reset with a program you can find at http://www.firmware.fr.st/
RE: Movie plays with Jerks
I don`t know about the DXR3 but I never had prblems with my ATi Xpert2000 card. The chipsets used on the Xpert2000 and Xpert2000 Pro cards are fairly old so the drivers are stable. Just don`t expect great 3D games performance. If you play games, go for ATi`s Radeon; more expensive but much faster
RE: PLEASE HELP QUICK !! Multiregion Hack required for Matshita DVD-Rom
err....wait a sec! Isn`t the SR-8583 region-free by deafault??
RE: PLEASE HELP QUICK !! Multiregion Hack required for Matshita DVD-Rom
I`m repeating myself....
DVD Rom hacks at http://www.firmware.fr.st/
RE: DVD-ROMS and DTS
DTS is a sound format (Digital Theater System, I think). You can still use your DVD drive to watch those movies but don`t expect crystal clear DTS sound. This depends on your soundcard/amplifier.

RE: PC DVD hardware
PowerDVD (http://www.cyberlink.com.tw/english/index.asp)
WinDVD can take screen captures but only with hardware acceleration disabled. The shrotcut key is hidden somewhere in the help file.

RE: Movie plays with Jerks
The SiS620 doesn`t have any kind of hardware DVD acceleration (unlike the SiS630)
If I were you, I`d get an ATI card, they`re second to none when it comes to DVD playback. I have a cheap ATI Xpert2000 with 32MB of RAM and WinDVD uses only 30% of my Celeron366 when I watch DVDs. Of course you can get a dedicated DVD card like Creative Lab`s DXR3
Also, playback depends on the software player. WinDVD and PowerDVD are the best of the bunch.

Don`t listen to Jimbo! My URL is the correct one! ;)

Go to http://www.firmware.fr.st/ and grab a hacked firmware

RE: Somebody must have copyrighted, or at least thought of this!!!!
There`s a player that displays a spectrum analyser on screen when you play audio CDs but I don`t know if it`s available in the UK. It`s the Amoisonic DVD8506 (http://www.amoisonic.gr/en/index.html)

All knowledge lies within these forums...
RE: Silence of the Lambs: Criterion Version
>The new copyright owner, MGM should be releasing a new special >edition later in the year.
A new special edition? Damn, I got my Criterion DVD a month ago and now you tell me that I have to buy another version??
Oh well...I hope it`ll have a full length cmentary by Jodie :)
K.
RE: Region 0 dvds
My Criterion`s "Silence of the Lambs" seems to be R0. I hadn`t noticed that there`s no region indication on the box. One more point for Criterion...
And, of course, all porn DVDs are R0

RE: AIWA 370, Factually accurate review from what Hi-Fi etc etc
The Aiwa got 4.5/5 in Home Cinema Choice. The verdict was "Excellent picture but average CD sound", exactly the opposite of what WhatHiFi said. Makes you wonder, doesn`t it?
WhatHiFi gave high marks to Lecson 900 in their "Mind blowing surround sound music and video combos" grouptest. If the Lecson really puts gaps between CD tracks, that makes the credibility of their reviews questionable, at least. Just try to listen to a classical CD with those enforced gaps. It`s enough to kill a music lover

Multi-angle DVDs
Are there any DVDs out there which have this feature? The only ones I`ve found are porn and music DVDs, not my favourite kinds.
K.
P.S. Anyone knows if R1 and R2 versions of the Se7en doubleDVD (New Line Platinum Series) are the same?
