RE: What Regional coding does Hong-Kong use?

Hi JE,

Yes Hong Kong is region 3 but actually I believe most Hong Kong DVDs are region 0 meaning that they`ll play on any DVD player.

Crouching Tiger is indeed region 3 though.

RE: DVD Himage DVD2290 (Multi region)

>If you think about it the player is mnufactured region free and doesn`t use a hack or modification so in theory all the titles should work.

The whole point of RCE protection is to stop those players that are all region. I think that if you can specify a region than you won`t have any problems but I don`t think you can on the Himage which is why I think it might have problems playing RCE protected DVD`s. If you or anyone else can give it a go and report back that would be cool.

I wander what the state of affairs is with RCE? Will it become more common or just fade away?

BTW why did you not want to try the Patriot? Have you seen it already?

RE: DVD Himage DVD2290 (Multi region)

Hay Boris or anyone else,

Can you tell me if the Himage will play RCE protected DVDs because from what Ive seen it`s an all region player but you can`t select a specific region meaning that it won`t play RCE protected DVDs.

Anyone know?

RE: DVD Himage DVD2290 (Multi region)

Hi,

I`m very interested in this player, does anyone have any screenshots of it up close, the remote or any of the on-screen menus?

Also whats the mp3/audio cd playback quality and menu navigation like?

Thanks,

RE: IT Troll delivers: VCD playback on the LG DVD-3350E

Nice one IT Troll. And thanks for sharing it with us!

Now I just have to wait for my LG3350!

RE: LG3350 I found one but should I......

>Just to confirm this, I ordered from direct-electrical on Fri 9 feb, they rang me on Sat to confirm and the machine arrived on Tuesday.

What firmware version is it?

Logix 3000 vs Scan 2000

Hi,

From what I can tell these two players are the same, or at least to the old Scan.

Does anybody know if:

1. Is the Logix 3000 identical to the Scan 2000?
2. Can you use the new Scan firmwares to update the Logix?
3. Is the Scan 2000 any different to the old Scan hardware wise?
4. Are Logix still updating/supporting their player?

Thanks,

- CodeWarrior.

RE: Owners of 1.4 firmware model 3350`s....>>

>JESUS CHRIST!! GIMME A CHANCE!!!!!!

Sorry Jimbo, it`s just I`d originaly asked you the question in another thread on Friday and seeing as you were still around (unless someone else was posting as you) I figured you`d not seen it or didn`t want to reply. Then I posted again 4 minutes after you did on this thread, so maybe I`d just missed you or it slipped your notice again ;)

>its PASTED ON MY SITE AS A PICTURE!!!!!!!!

Ops so it is, again my apologies. Was that just recently put up as I don`t remember seeing before?

>You need the stuff to get the firmware read off the player, and someone capable of rewriting the code.

I thought as much - this was the very route I was going to explore, as I`m more of a software guy than hardware.

Well sorry for the confusion Jimbo, and thanks for the help.

RE: Owners of 1.4 firmware model 3350`s....>>

>as we need a new independent champion of the cause.

I`m putting my gladiator outfit on as we speak ;)

>I know that Jimbo has found others for eg he has enabled dolby 5.1 on his Aiwa with one.

Do you know what the others are or might be?

>I believe that the enabling of VCD on the LG3350 requires a bit of cross fertilisation with the Aiwa.

Interesting idea! Croc, may be worth exploring.

Thanks for the help guys, I`m no whiz kid and I don`t have loads of free time on my hands but I`ll see what I can do and how far I can take this. It`s just something that seems interesting to play around with and I`d like to be able to play VCDs on my player once (if!) I get it.

It`s just a shame that on a thread started by Jimbo asking for help he`s so reluctant to give any!

RE: Switch off your DVD, put on your coat...

Switched on my DVD, took my coat off...and watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

I have to say after all the hype I was a little disappointed with the film. I didn`t like the action - the wire work on this film was just crazy - it didn`t even look like they could walk on air, more like they were being dragged along in the air by a wire while they kicked their feet! The story and music was good but the I have to say the ending was excellent. All in all a good film but I fail to see what all the fuss is about - maybe I missed point?

RE: Owners of 1.4 firmware model 3350`s....>>

>I love to be able to tell you but it would mean completely stripping my 3350 down.

No problem, thanks anyway IT Troll, guess I`ll just have to wait until I get mine then have a look for myself.

>I am sure it wouldn`t hurt Jimbo to tell you. After all the information is in the public domain (kinda).

That`s what I thought, but I guess Jimbo has no interest in helping us now he has his sights set on financial gain ;)

RE: Alien (Box Set) for £34.99 delivered!!! Be quick - ends midnight 19/01/01

>Hmmm, I didn`t get mine and I`m a bit p***ed especially as it showed in stock when I ordered it.

Maybe they realised that they were selling it too cheap and just gave the old `out of stock` excuse!?!

Shame, it sounded like a super deal!

RE: Owners of 1.4 firmware model 3350`s....>>

Ok, obviously Jimbo isn`t willing to say what the firmware chip number is (maybe I`m on to something!;), does anyone else know or am I just talking to myself? ;)

- CodeWarrior.

RE: Owners of 1.4 firmware model 3350`s....>>

Jimbo, what`s the firmware chip number please?

Thanks,

- CodeWarrior.

RE: Please Mr. Dabs, are we nearly there yet???

Hmmm, Dabs seem to be screwing people around, I doubt I`ll be using them again!

In fact I`m now seriously considering getting a Scan!

RE: VCD & SVCD for LG3350 & AIWA 370

>Thats the ATMEL chip on the underside of the Mpeg board.
>Just thought I`d help! lol

If it`s not secret! ;) do you mind telling me what the chip number is?

Thanks,

- CodeWarrior.

RE: Please Mr. Dabs, are we nearly there yet??? - Nope!

Well the Availability`s gone up to 3-4 days!

Lol, and yes Dabs lie out of their teeth! When I phoned them yesterday the lady on the phone said that they had a few in that morning and everyone who`d ordered before the 10th Jan was allocated one. When I told her I`d ordered before then and had`nt been allocated one she told me to hold on. A few moments later she told me that she`d read her screen wrong and it was actually before the 7th Jan!!!
Just goes to show how much they value their customers if they can`t even be bothered to tell them the truth!

RE: Switch off your DVD, put on your coat...

>Are there any sites that I can visit that will allow me to use English to order CTHD (he asks shame-faced)?

I ordered my copy from Movietyme. Took a few weeks to arrive due to the demand, but that was ok for me as I`m still waiting for my dvd player!

RE: V 2.13 FIRMWARE WILL BE AVIALABLE ON SCAN SITE FRIDAY

Hi nilesh,

Do you guys do the firmware updates in-house?

- CodeWarrior.

RE: Please Mr. Dabs, are we nearly there yet???

>When did you order yours code warrior ?

Hi croc, I ordered mine sometime around the 9th of Jan.

- CodeWarrior.

RE: VCD & SVCD for LG3350 & AIWA 370

Thanks IT Troll, I can just make out the ZiVA-4 chip on your pic :)

Can you tell me what the firmware chip says on it?

- CodeWarrior.

RE: Please Mr. Dabs, are we nearly there yet???

>I have just checked my order on line and it says COMPLETED.

I`ve just checked mine and it`s still "Awaiting stock", also the site still says 1-2 days.

Maybe they found a few old (firmware 1.2) ones laying around for you guys ;)

- CodeWarrior.

RE: VCD & SVCD for LG3350 & AIWA 370

Forgot to ask - does anyone know what firmware chip these players use? i.e. chip no, Flash ROM, EPROM, PROM etc?

Thanks,

- CodeWarrior.

RE: VCD & SVCD for LG3350 & AIWA 370

>You say that the decoder supports SVCD, but the firmware is limiting the detection and playback. Is this something that can be "fixed" with
>the right firmware?

I believe this is the case, although I don`t think Jimbo agrees. I`m waiting for my LG3350e to arrive so I can`t confirm anything but if it uses C-Cube`s ZiVA-4 chip then it has the ability to play VCDs and SVCDs so I reckon this just needs to be enabled via the firmware, but I`m not sure for certain.

I`ll probably have a poke around when I get the player, if anyone is interested in doing the same you can email me at: roirraw_edoc[at]moc.liam

I know Jimbo is/has been taking a look but he`s got business commitments so it would be unfair to ask him to share what he`s found.

RE: VCD & SVCD for LG3350 & AIWA 370

>Not when it`s been disabled on the chip.

True, but I VERY much doubt it has been disabled on the chip, unless the chip LG are using is a cut down version of the C-Cube`s ZiVA-4 decoder. Maybe you could take a peep inside the player and see?

>Not when Macro is actually been outputted by the C-Cube, so unless you can reverse engineer the C-Cube chip, you won`t disable macro in the firmware. (Tried it..failed miserably)

Macrovision maybe encoded with the C-Cube but it`s all controlled within the firmware. So you should be able to get the firmware to disable the C-Cube chip`s macrovision encoding.

>That would be most helpful old boy...after all, two heads are better than one! lol

Who told you I had two heads? ;-)

- CodeWarrior

RE: VCD & SVCD for LG3350 & AIWA 370

Also 007, if you hacked the firmware, not only could you get the LG to play VCDs and SVCDs but you could also disable Macrovision.

Should be getting my LG3350e soon, see what I can do ;-)

RE: Switch off your DVD, put on your coat...

Hi PN,

I`m a fan of martial arts but I haven`t seen CTHD, although I should get it on DVD within the next few days. I`m tempted to see it at the cinema as everyone is raving about it.

>Are there any more you can recommend that are in the style of CTHD?

I`ll let you know once I`ve seen the film although I`m no expert on Hong Kong films. If anyone else out there can recommend some `must see` Hong Kong/martial art films I`d be gratefull.

Thanks,

CodeWarrior.
