Could any of you guys who have a 1.4 firmware version 3350 please email me your serial numbers?

I don`t wanna get a 1.3 version for a test machine to check the update for VCD etc.

Thanks in advance!

I`ve had confirmation that the multi-region hack works on the 1.4 firmware. Not heard anything about VCD though.

That`s why I need the serial number to check before I buy Troll!

Ok, obviously Jimbo isn`t willing to say what the firmware chip number is (maybe I`m on to something!;), does anyone else know or am I just talking to myself? ;)

I love to be able to tell you but it would mean completely stripping my 3350 down.

I am sure it wouldn`t hurt Jimbo to tell you. After all the information is in the public domain (kinda).

No problem, thanks anyway IT Troll, guess I`ll just have to wait until I get mine then have a look for myself.

That`s what I thought, but I guess Jimbo has no interest in helping us now he has his sights set on financial gain ;)

Code Warrior,

As Jimbo is holding his cards close to his chest, I have some info that may be of some use if you are serious about hacking the 3350, as we need a new independent champion of the cause.

Fact
LG would appear to use constants as codes, ie region hack 314156 = pie, factory default 271828 = e etc. I know that Jimbo has found others for eg he has enabled dolby 5.1 on his Aiwa with one. This info is in the public domain and can be found within these pages.

Speculation
I believe that the enabling of VCD on the LG3350 requires a bit of cross fertilisation with the Aiwa.
Take the Aiwa firmware use a few constants to enable features for the LG and to change the machine type. Flash this firmware onto the LG and hey presto. (My guess anyway)..

I`m putting my gladiator outfit on as we speak ;)

Do you know what the others are or might be?

Interesting idea! Croc, may be worth exploring.

Thanks for the help guys, I`m no whiz kid and I don`t have loads of free time on my hands but I`ll see what I can do and how far I can take this. It`s just something that seems interesting to play around with and I`d like to be able to play VCDs on my player once (if!) I get it.

It`s just a shame that on a thread started by Jimbo asking for help he`s so reluctant to give any!

JESUS CHRIST!! GIMME A CHANCE!!!!!!
I take one night off from the PC, and this is what I come back to!!

I am so unhappy to tell you the firmware chip number that its PASTED ON MY SITE AS A PICTURE!!!!!!!!
http://choosefirst.co.uk
Whaddya think the Atmel chip on the "Firmware and Macro" page is?

And its a very clear one that the numbers can be read off!!

Anyways, theres a little more to it than cross fertilization of the brands.
You need the stuff to get the firmware read off the player, and someone capable of rewriting the code.
I am not capable of that, but me pal is, my strength is in the "logical reasoning" side, where I said, "OK, if we changed those bits and got that result, how would we do that via the chips rather than changing the hardware?" which set my mate to thinking.."Well...if I did this.....and changed those lines to this...." and totally confused the hell outta me!

Anyways, all I know is that I managed to do it through hardware, then he managed to better me by making it through software!
He won`t even give me the image of the firmware from MY player! lol

Does that help???
And gimme a bit more time in future guys, some of us have to work weekends!!!!!
