Play.com

Over the past year I have seen quite a few threads about Play.com.

I have not ordered from them since last year and was wondering why it was taking so long to process my order. I phoned today and informed them that I had moved home and found that this had been the cause of the delay.

They explained that any time you make a change to your account details, your account has to be reapproved.

Hope this is useful.

RE: Stardvds.co.uk

Ted,

I cancelled my order with them two days ago, believe me stick to Play247.com or DVD Box Office for R1 dvd`s

If your happy with R4 or R2 dvd`s then http://www.ezydvd.com.au/ has good prices and delivery times, and again Play247.com is good price wise for R2

RE: Stardvds.co.uk you have to see it to believe it

Have also taken the plunge and ordered from Star dvds and will wait to see what happens next just like all of us.

Wonder how much their DVD`s will cost in June? As all the prices shown are for May only.

I can only wish them every success with their endevour, and hope it comes off for them and us.

RE: Picture distorted at the top of TV advice please

Thanks, I should have thought. I have a Pioneer 636 which is chipped to play multiregional. I got 2 operating manuals with the player, but neither are in English or German which I can read...lol

The other problem is that it should be able to play VCD`s. But my son brought one in and it just kept pausing and starting.

The player is set on RGB, when you set it on S-Video, the picture quality is bad. I am beginning to think that the problem is with the player rather than the DVD.

Thanks for the advice

RE: WERE IS THE CHEAPEST DVD SITE YOU KNOW??

So far, have found http://www.play247.com to be cheap for R2 dvd`s average price of latest releases is £14.99 and there is no delivery charge and they arrive by recorded delivery. Also, I ordered two dvd`s and they arrived in seperate bubble-envelopes.

R1 dvd`s naturally a little dearer but on average the price is about the same as DVD Box Office. but the two R1 dvd`s I purchased arrived via airmail from Belgium two days after being posted i.e. posted Monday arrived Wednesday

RE: and the award for fastest delivery goes to..........

I must check them out, so far I can only say that for myself, it has been Play247.com, each time I ordered a R1 dvd it arrived by airmail via Belgium two days after processing i.e. processed on Monday, posted at 19.18 that evening and arrived in the morning post on Wednesday.

R2`s appear to take a bit longer, but are recorded delivery.

Picture distorted at the top of TV advice please

As I said in my last post, I am new to the world of DVD Players.

I have quite a few R2 dvd`s but only 3 R1`s. My latest R1 purchase is Ghost, but the picture at the top of the TV screen is distorted and as I don`t know anyone else with a multiregional DVD Player, I was hoping that the more experience amongst you, could advise me, if this is more likely to be the dvd or the player itself.

I don`t have this problem with any other dvd`s

TV and Satellite feed back to your player

Earlier this month, I read a thread on this subject and many people offered lots of practilcal advice, some of which was quite technical and involved diconecting wires inside the scart lead.

I thought about this for a while, as I was experiencing this problem myself then thought why not put the TV on a channel number that had not been tuned in to a station and to my surprise found it had cured the problem.

I know others will already have come up with this idea yourselves, but felt I should share with those, who like myself are new to the DVD Player world.

RE: LG 3350E QUESTION TIME

Last year was a bad year for me, with computers and DVD Players.....I bought a LG3200e from Blockbusters and had nothing but trouble with it, took it back and got a LG3350e from Currys (say no more) and everytime I played a dvd, I could hear a whirring sound. Same noise as IT Troll put on another thread.

Just a case of twice bitten, I became a bit shy. But realise that I was just unlucky to get two bad machines............Though I would still recommend the LG 3350e to people looking for a good player

RE: LG 3350E QUESTION TIME

I think you`ll find if you visit http://www.lgdvd.co.uk LG3350e can be hacked to play VCD`s

I wish I had stayed with mine now, as the Pioneer 636 I have now pauses when the dvd changes layers, which I don`t rememner happening on the LG.

They must be down in price now and are really good players for the money and have many features that dearer brand named players don`t have

Pioneer 535 advice required

I have noticed that my player appears to pause for a moment during play and was wondering if this is normal, or a fault.

The player was bought from Richer Sounds and is multiregional.

Would be grateful for any advice.

Brian

RE: LG 3350 problems - Eeeeeeeeeeek!

IT Troll,

Thanks for the audio that is exactly the noise my 3350e was making all the time during play.

Anyone used DVDrapide.eu.com

Just found this company via Home Cinema. Has anyone used them, the prices seem quite good

http://www.dvdrapide.eu.com

Went shopping today for bargins

First went to PC World: Buy two get one free, most DVD covers had no price labels and when I asked for them to be checked, they all came up as £19.99.

I did manage to get Men in Black with a sticker showing £15.49. But it scanned as £19.99 asked if their top ten was in on the special and was told yes. Got M I 2 for £15.49, Stuart Little for £15.49 and the girl put M I B through as the free DVD.

Next went to Tesco`s. First Display I saw, offered two DVD`s for £25 normal price £14.98 for one. Quite a good selection, when you consider that The Bone Collector, Blue Streak, Twister, The Mummy etc were among those on offer I thoght this was not that bad.

All Tesco`s top 1 to 35 DVD`s were priced at £16.99. Though did not see Braveheart SE until I was in another branch. Price was £19.99. I was able to buy Das Boot (the Directors Cut) and Apollo 13 on the two for £25 at this store

Blockbuster`s price for Braveheart SE is £22.99 and they are also doing a two for £25

RE: Himmelblau- Please read

Got the COdE display and entered 0, followed rest of the instructions, but did not have a R1 DVD to try it out.

Sorry guys but I took it back to Currys today for a refund, as there was a continual whirring noise while the disc was in motion. This was my second LG player since 23 December. The other a 3200E had a intermitent problem with some DVD`s kept getting "Disc Error" messages and the picture quality was very poor.

The picture quality on the 3350E was great and I really liked the player apart from the noise.

Hunted the net last night to try and get an Aiwa 370, or some other well recommend player that could be set via the remote. But ended up getting a Pioneer DV535 today, from Richer Sounds though not via their site as they are out of stalk.

I am wary of electronics at the moment as I had three bad compters last year from new. But am happy with the one that I have now as it has not let me down.....Fingers crossed.

I ain`t knocking the 3350E. It`s a good machine and I just wished that it hadn`t had the noise problem

RE: Multiregion Pioneer 535/0 from HED RCE compatible?

Just go my player today and read this thread. Put Partiot into the player and it played right away.

It is multi-regional though not via software and the switch on the back is set on auto.

You could try Richer Sounds, but there web site is out of stalk. Why not trying phoning around there branchs, as they are very helpful. You never know I phoned this moring and was in luck

RE: LG 3350 - Advice Needed!

Just got my LG3350E from Currys on Friday 28 January, as I am new to this, I hope the MICOM refers to the firmware. If it does, it is 1.4... am waiting on dvd coming from DVD Box Office and will keep you posted.

Hope this is of help

RE: Cheap LG dvd player £159.99 until sunday 28

Currys are selling the LG 3200e DVD player for £129.99. I purchased one 0n December 23 and it cost £179.99.

RE: PC World but 2 get 1 free

The Three Kings DVD retails for £15.99 at Currys. have also noticed that Blockbusters prices, tend to be about £2 cheaper than WH Smiths.

Just goes to prove that you have to hunt for a real bargin.

RE: Recordable dvd players coming out?

Know that this may not be relevant, but the Packard Bell ixtreme PC comes with dvd, tv card and tv out. You can record a tv programme to the hard drive and then watch it via the computer monitor, or your tv, you can also pause live tv programmes.

I read an article in a DVD magazine, which said people maybe reluctent about buying a recordable dvd player, when some computers already come with this capability.
