LG 3350 - Advice Needed!

Barton (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 25th January 2001, 21:53

Just before Xmas I received my player from Dabs. Fantastically prompt delivery - 1 week after a claimed 2-3.

I love most things about the machine - picture, sound, handset. I`ve tried the hack, and it seems to work (`code` appears at the right time) but I have not tested any R1 discs yet.

Now to my problem: there is quite a bit of mechanical noise when playing discs. I have notified Dabs, and they are arranging a new player for me, presumably from the new batch expected Feb. Whats worrying me are the posts about the newer players not being hackable. I really want to get rid of the noise, but I also don`t want to lose R1 playback - one of the main reasons for getting this player. This must also apply to people taking up LG`s replacement policy for the R2 Toy Story disc 3 problems.

Can anyone confirm that the new LGs are hackable, or is the solution to swap the drive mechanism or electronics between the machines - how easy is this, Jimbo or ItTroll ?

TIA.

Chris

We don`t know either way at the moment. Also, I doubt that Dabs will be shipping players with the new firmware just yet.

Funny you should mention this. I have just uploaded the Service Manual to my website which shows you how exactly to do this. At your own risk though!

Eggo,
Hope you dont mind me asking but when did you order it to recieve it last week ? I have been waiting for three weeks. My wife who gave me the money to buy myself the player for Christmas is wondering what I have done with it ?

LOL - crocodile mate I told you to stay away from those "massage" parlours in Soho! Now what are you going to tell the wife when dabs do get some in! ;-)

Yeah I`ve been waiting for ages too.

PN

I ordered mine on the 6th, I have noticed that Dabs have updated the web site now says < 1 week. Hope this is more realistic than the 1-3 days it has stated for the last 3 weeks !

For those that ask

I ordered it on the 29th Dec, when it didn`t arrive I rung dabs on their freephone no. From there, they put me onto web ordering and the explanation was that LG were not delivering as many as dabs were asking for. Also over Dec they were been swamped with orders so the priority was who ordered first got first and there were people in front of me. They were also expecting 2 deliveries a week.

PS. Before using dabs I tried my local Curries (not a superstore one) and they had been waiting 3 weeks to even get one to put on display!
