Can Sony 725 play SVCD ?

I know it plays VCD but can anyone tell me if it plays SVCD ?

RE: Sony 535 video CDs

I looked into this as I burn my own VCDs/CDs and have a Sony DVD player. Sony player don`t need a new laser, just CD-R that it can read. Princo CD-Rs is the only brand that I know it works with consistently. Although it works with almost every brand of CD-RWs. I got some Princo CD-Rs from Maplin Electronic (74min/650Mb £13 for pack of 50) a few weeks ago. They work fine with no problem. I think the new generation of Sony DVD player will work with CD-R now.

RE: Pioneer DV535 or Sony DVPS335...

A final point is the Pioneer can play CDR. If you burn your own CDs, you will want the Pioneer.

RE: Is the DAV-S300 worth the plunge???

Hi geo. Your problem with black & white picture with DVD marked as all region is that they are in NTSC. Your TV have problem displaying it. It may be an older model that does not support this format. UK uses PAL.

RE: sony dvp-s325 cant play cdr`s

Cheers cw2000. I will go and get some now. Did you try them on a Sony DVD player ? If you did, did it work ?

RE: VCD

The 511 will play VCD, but copies are often made on CD-Rs. A lot of DVD players can not read them.

RE: sony dvp-s325 cant play cdr`s

I have a Sony 725 which must be similar, and found the same problem. Sony players have different lasers that is very fussy about the reflectivity of the disc.I did a lot of research on the net and found basically Sony DVD palyers can play a brand of CDR called Princo and a few own brands. They are not sold in this country. But you may be interested to know most CD-RW brands can be played. I have checked and can confirm it works. I know CDRW cost a little more, but at least it works. By the way if you find a brand of CDR that works, please let everyone know.

Check out www.vcdhelper.com for the latest.

RE: Sony DVP-S725 any good?

Its a great machine. The only thing is it does not play CDRs. Thats important if you want to burn your own VCD from camcorders.

RE: DVD to video CD??

Hi Gavin,

What DVD palyer have you got that plays SVCD ? I am looking for a player that can do that.

Cheers

RE: Home Cinema help please...

If you get the Kenwood and Eltax speakers you have better upgrade path for future. i.e. You can replace the amp for somthing like DD/DTS 6.1 and adding an extra speaker. The sound generall is beter if the components are well matched. This is option I will go for.

RE: Purchase of French DVD player

As far as I know, France use SECAM. Don`t think many UK TV support this apart from Philips.

RE: Is there any hardware to allow R1 discs playback in colour?

That is not true. There are a lot of NTSC to Pal convertors available. www.keene.co.uk do one for £60. Also have a look in the adverts at the back of various DVD related magazines. Has your TV got a RGB scart input ? If it has and your player can output RGB, then this will also give you a colour picture even if it can`t handle NTSC.

RE: o.k what the heck does it mean????

You can only watch it on your PC if it has Media Player 6.5 or above and DivX player loaded. It just mean it is a copy of DVD on a CD-R. Don`t buy it.

Sony 725 playing CD-R ?

Can anyone confirm this for me. I have heard it can and it can`t. Please help before I buy a CD recorder.

RE: Predator - Letter Box ? doooooohhhhhh

I agree with you on features missing from R1 discs. With widescreen pictures my DVD player allows me to set the output to pan and scan for non widescreen TVs. This fill the complete TV screen. Have you tried this ?

RE: Remote controls...?

Go to Yahoo auction. Do a search of "remote control". You will get a lot of results with R/C in it. There are a few people who have a lot of R/C for sell. They may be able to help.

RE: Samsung 511 Question

It does not have a built in decoder. I believe the Sony 930 receiever is now selling for £275 at Richer Sounds. A bargain.

RE: region 3 dvd retailers?

I orders my R3 films from dddhouse.com based in Hong Kong. Last time I ordered 4 films, and they arrived in 10days. They even marked them as gifts and valued them at US$20 to get them through custom without tax. I would recommend using them.

RE: O Brother Bug!

I rented a copy from Blockbuster and found the same problem. Too late for me though as I have returned the disc already,

RE: Help on AV Receiver

If your Aiwa HI-Fi are all separate componets, then all you have to do is to connect them to the new Kenwood receiver. Since the Kenwood is a receiver, it has a tuner built in. The DVD player can play CDs anyway. The only other component you need to connect is the tape player. Just plug the speakers to the receiver and away you go. By the way, you will need a digital connection from the DVD to the receiver. This can be an optical or co-ax cable depending on the player and the receiver.

RE: S-Video to Scart

If your DVD player is outputing S-Video via scart, you must make sure your TV scart connection is is capable of receiving S-Video signal. Else you will get a black and white picture. If it is,you will get a better picture.

RE: x-men...only £11.99

I just had a look, X men is £15.99, Snatch £19.99 ! Have they increased the prices since Thursday ?

RE: Help with sony 940 av amp and subwoofer!!! Please

Check the setting of the sub output. You can attenuate the sub output on the amp. Make sure this is not set. Also, make sure the cut off frequency of the sub is not set too low, else it won`t do much. This is the second nob on the back of the sub. My PDR10 works well with my Sony amp. If this still don`t work, you should take it back to try it at the shop.

Mickey Blue Eyes DVD for £4.99 at MVC

I saw it at MVC Lakeside for £4.99. Not my cup of tea though.

RE: DTS or Dolby Digital

I have tried various DVDs with both DD and DTS. The difference is not that great. You have to switch from one to the other to hear the difference. Most amp will decode DTS now, so don`t pay too much more for DTS.

RE: snatch widescreen what happend

Its in 1:1.85 ratio for widescreen TVs.

RE: HELP PLEASE PIONEER 636 TOSHIBA32WD98B

I don`t think you can do this. All it means is the DVD player can decode DTS and output the signal. You still need an amp to drive the speakers. Does the Tosh have 5.1 inputs ? If it does, the TV can act as an amp.

RE: Possibly a stupid question!

Don`t know about your amp but you don`t need to switch the amp. It will switch itself once it sees a DTS signal. I have U571 R1 also. You need to goto the audio setup and select DTS. Once this is done, you will see some piano strings being played and the movie will start. My amp(Sony 730) then switches to DTS. Hope this solves your problem.

RE: Sony 335 - Macrovision - Copying to VHS.

The problem is most UK VCRs will play NTSC but will not record it. R1 DVDs are in NTSC format. The frame rate are different between PAL and NTSC. To record NTSC you will need a VCR that will record NTSC. Some DVD players can output PAL50 from NTSC. If your player can do this, select it and you will be able to record R1 DVD.

RE: Techtronics - Be warned!

I got a Samsung 511 from them. Had a problem and could never get through to anyone. You are put on hold forever then they cut you off while on hold. I will never deal with them again and they should be advoided.
