RE: Scan Firmware Question

I cant think why your macro was still enabled after updating to v208 from v180.

the only thing i can think of is that some other settings need to be off-set while v180 in loaded in the scan.

I played around with every available setting in the main menu and hidden menus until I had covered all areas that would cause a problem when 204s or 208 where loaded.

I think you may need to turn AutoMute to ON at the v180 stage along with the other setting stated in my earlier post.

Try it and let me know.

Another thing to do is email Nelley at scan asking for the Firmeware 208 to make sure you get a confirmed version.

Another thing... is that some people have purchased their scan`s with Firmware 180 or 193 pre-installed, I am thinking that these units have had some sort of Eprom coding change or hardware change that won`t accept standard Firmware Updating? but I can`t confirm that in any way, It`s just a thought.

May be a survey is in order to see what was the originally installed firmware Version and what was the Hack Failure Ratio after doing an update.

My Original Firmawre = v164
Hack Failure = Macro Enabled could not switch it OFF

My First Upgrade = v180
Hack Failure = None; The Macro was already Disabled?

My Second Upgrade = 204s
Hack Failure = Macro was Enabled colud not switch it OFF

My Third Upgrade = Down-Graded to v180
Hack Failure = None; I Re-Disabled the Macro and Did Various Tests

My Fourth Upgrade = Re-Upgraded to v204s
Hack Failure = None; The Macro was already Disabled?

I`ve been having Fun ever since...

Strange things surround the SCAN SC2000 but with your input we can understand the Beast.

RE: Scan Firmware Question

Extra Note from my earlier thread:

if you have already installed 204 or 204s then you only need to down grade back to firmware v180.

v180 is the only firmware revision that lets you use the Macro diable Hack.

Once you disable the macro under v180, it should stay disabled when you do an upgrade to 204s or 208.

Good Luck to all

RE: Scan SC2000 Firmware 2.08 experiences

pie_man,

Did you write your update CDR disc in CDRom/XA Mode1?

If not then you need to check your writter software to see is it can write to disc in the above stated format.

Try CDRWin 3.8 or NERO 5

RE: Scan Firmware Question

Ok, I haven`t written to the forum for a while but as a Scan owner I have been wacthing your posts?

I have noticed many picture issues on my scan but there are many reasons for this other than the SCAN Box being at fault. Mainly the TV Settings, DVD Disk Manufacture, the VCR and mostly the connecting cables/scart leads.

I get on well with the scan and when it comes to firmware I have had the same macro status feed back PROBLEMS like everyone else...
BUT? and a BIG BUT!

I went away for a while and worked it out for myself...? with a little help

This Concept worked for me: Firmware upgrade Route... v164 to v180 to v204s

You should only need to disable the macro at the v180 point as when the 204s is installed the macro should still be disabled but the region number and Auto PAL/NTSC output standards are reset to there defaults.

My findings on the 204s macro disable issues is as follows:

Firstly make sure you have the correct TDVD-000.ROM, the names are the same for all versions so you won`t know what version it is until you upgrade the Scan. The all version nameing! is a Major Cause of Upgrade Problems if you don`t check.

1: You will need to backwards upgrade the firmware to version 180. This version allows you to disable/enable the macro to show 00000000 or 1

2: Disable the macro using the listed handset hack steps for firmware v164 and later:
SETUP - STEP - TITLE - PREV (no disk in tray and draw opened or closed, try both ways)

Re-Check Firmware Status to see if ADV7172 = 00000001 is displayed, use hand set hack: OPEN - SETUP - STOP - STEP - MENU

3: Connect your Scan via the `To TV` Scart Port (Only), to your VCR via any AV Port (Scart or Phono on VCR). Set-up your Scan player so it plays multi-region (Debug = 9) and multi for the TV playback standard i.e. Allow Auto Change between PAL & NTSC (make a test VCR Recording)

Multi-Region hack code is: OPEN - SETUP - 9, 2, 0, 1, 0 - STEP - SHUFFLE - NEXT
To Access Hidden Menu Settings: OPEN - SETUP - SHUFFLE - STEP - NEXT

4: Play around with other settings until you are happy that the player is playing back all your DVD`s to your own personal standards via the `VCR AV Channel` to the `TV Screen`

5: If all is well write a CDR or CDRW disk with a `CONFIRMED TDVD-000.ROM VERSION 204s` written to it in CDRom/Xa (with finalised session and post gap write) and install firmware to Scan

6: When the Scan Disk tray opens after upgrade, remove the Disk and press the Stand-By Button on the Box once (not on remote)

7: Wait until the Scan Powers Down with the Disk tray still Open

8: Power Back On after 10-20 seconds and the Disk tray should close on its own

9: Before you play Any DVDs check your Firmaware Status to see if the Macro is still disabled (ADV7172 = 00000001) (use hand set hack: OPEN - SETUP - STOP - STEP - MENU) (If you have no DVD Logo then connect the scan scart lead direct to the TV and back to the VCR when you correct the problem i.e Disable the Macro)

10: If all is well Re-Set the Scan to multi-region (Debug = 9) and multi for the TV playback standard i.e. Allow Auto Change between PAL & NTSC. Play around with other setup settings and hidden settings until you are happy.

On some TV`s & VCRs the Scan DVD Logo Screen will show in Black & White. If this happens Record some DvD to Tape and Play back the Tape to Check for Colour. You may need to configure your TV or VCR to accept PAL and/or NTSC feeds or set them to AUTO if you can.

You will also need to swap the Scan scart lead between the TV and the VCR depending on, if your wacthing or recording a DVD. You can only use one scart port on the Scan and that`s the `TO TV` Port. The other port only allows pass through TV/AV Control. Its a Scart Saver Concept for single scart TV`s.

11: DON`T TRY THE ABOVE IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER THAN v164 FIRMWARE OR YOU DON`T HAVE THE CORRECT TDVD-000.ROM

12: READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO BEFORE YOU DO IT, THE INFORMATION IS OUT THERE

13: LIKE SCAN OR DON`T LIKE SCAN, YOU HAVE A BOX THAT IS A TOY AND IT WILL BREAK, THATS THE RISK YOU TAKE!

14: IF I HAVE MISSED ANY THING OUT, I`M SURE YOU WILL LET ME KNOW via HATE MAIL POSTINGS...

Thank you and Good Night...

Ps.

If you need a copy of firmware 180, post your email to this thread and I will get back to you. Be warned, my response time is not that good so don`t panic if it takes me a day or so to respond. I will also set-up a down load area if you don`t want to give your email now. The area address will be posted when I set it up, so hold tight for that.

I would also like to thank Dave Gawlik for his help before Christmas by supplying me with the 180 firmware and vital supporting information.

I personally think that the 164 to 180 to 204s upgrade concept has prevented problems from happening on my Scan SC2000.

Thanks Dave...

DVD Playback Fault?

I have noticed a serious problem with the Wharfedale 750s, Zoran Vaddis 3, 2nd Gen, when a Bright White Explotion or Flash occurs during a scene of a movie. (.R1. The Patriot - Mel Gibson, .R1. Independance Day SE and .R2. Lock Stock the TV Series @ the End of episode 7, Tested so far)

When an explotion or flash happens the Wharfedale will make the picture breifly roll as the explotion moves from Orange Flame to a Bright White Flash. At Flash point the playback flicks off for a moment and then flicks back to normal when the explotion or flash peak has finished.

It seems to do the same while playing back the R1 Matrix, but it`s not as bad even though the Matrix has lots of Flashes in it.

Has any one else seen this during playback of other DVD`s?

RE: Matsui DVD120 - Any Info Needed

Yes, I have the multiregion hack codes for the Door Mat-sui 110 which I`m told doe`s work for the 120. however I have played with a 110 and the picture was good and it handeled on the problem R1 disc releases from early to mid 2000.

I could not get it to play any VCD`s though and if there is a hack then the problem is firmware?

If I understand the issue correctly...

RE: Late equaliser - better news about Wharfdale 750S

Thanks J

I managed to sort out my hack problem by entering the codes before the draw fully opened.

Have fun with your Woofy

DJ Denon

RE: Wharfedale 750s & Certain Zoran chipset

I have cracked it... the problem was that I was pressing the button too slow?

If you enter the reigon hack after the draw has fully opened then the crack will not go in.

I played and played with the remote control until I got the hack codes entered before the draw fully opened and the holly grail flashed on screen... REGION FREE

Thanks for all you help people and I will keep my 750s for a while now.

RE: Wharedale 750s Keep or Return?

If you have a Second generation 750s with the Zoran Vaddis 3 Chipset then you should be able to to do some good things with it. As for playing CDs you need an amp & speakers of some sort to power the output because the unit connected to a Dolby Pro Logic TV ain`t up to much but the 750s will play VCD an HDCD so thats something else to think about.

The only draw back of the 750s is that you will need an Inline Converter Box to connect your DvD 750s to a VCR Direct and get a clear picture.

But the Scan SC2000 has a Macrovison Disable feature if you get the right firmware update (180, 193 or 204s) however the 180 gave me macrovision disabled with perfect results through a Toshiba V705b VCR based on an update stright from the factory installed firmware 164 to 180.

I have just updated to 204s from 180 but the macrovision seems to have been enabled again but I`m working it out right now so keep an eye on the forum for my results.

The Scan SC2000 also has MP3 direct from CD playback but I`ve not tried it yet. But at £175 inc VAT you can`t really go wrong if you like to play around with hacking your DVD units and the same goe`s for the Wharfedale 750s (not tried MP3 yet on the 750s).

Hope this info helps you do what you wanna do to make yourself happy?

RE: Wharfedale 750s & certain Zoran chipset

Ok, It looks like I`m the only person with this Wharfe 750s problem?

I shall work the buttons for another day or so and if no success by then I`m quitting the Wharfedale for a Techtronics Pioneer with Mod...

RE: Wharfedale 750s & Certain Zoran chipset

I have tried it with three 1s, four 1s, five 1s and six 1s, but the dam thing still won`t hack even when I use the alternative 1s with a 2 at the end.

I get Three Stars in the top Left of my TV Screen for the first Three Digits entered and then I get a Hand Icon flash in the Top Left of the TV Screen for every button pressed after the Third?

I think I have a “Certain Zoran Chipset” that’s been modified by the Manufacturer to p*** Me Off.

And by the lack of comments based on personal experience with this 750s problem, I look to be the only person to have swapped his hard working 750 for an Award-Winning 750s Chastity Belt, locked down like a 18th Century Virgin.

I give up, the dam thing is going back…

Can`t Any Of You Out There Help Me On This One?

I Can`t watch any R1`s on my newly Swaped Wharfe 750s (which I think is a third generation issue because none of the hack work and I mean NONE TWICE & FOUR TIMES OVER.)

Info Needed People?

I did notice that the 750s will take a four digit number at the DvD Startup Screen but the 111&1 and 111&2 hacks don`t work I get a hand icon when I enter the Fourth Digit?

Help Me Please I got no Region One Playback!!!???

RE: Wharfedale 750s & Certain Zoran chipset

This sounds like I’ve made a mistake taking my Original hard working 750 back to Tesco’s. The hacks worked and to date (20/12/00) I had not had a problem with any of the R1 or R2 disks in library.

But my 12month warranty was due to expire and I think I’ve rushed my moves to soon.

Bummer, I guess I`ll be getting my money back because I`ll just be taking pot luck if I exchange it again for another possibly dud 750s

RE: Wharfedale 750s & Certain Zoran chipset

From what I`ve read on the forum its a case of replacing the Firmware Chips, which are by the look of it only available from a Tesco engineer?

Do You Know Any?

Wharfedale 750s & certain Zoran chipset

I saw this in a thread from early December 2000, "The 750s hack only applies to certain Zoran chipset machines."

My question is? What can I do if I have a Wharfedale 750s that will not accept any of the listed Hacks for the First & Second Generation Wharfedale 750s...

Doe`s it mean I have a Third Generation Wharfedale 750s?

Or do I take the unit back to Tescos and try for me money back?

I am on my third unit after swapping my fist for a 750s, which bizarrely had no Audio Out metal Phono Shields to my Third that will not accept any listed hand set hacks?

All this has happened in one morning, 20th December 2000 between 04.00hrs and 05.30hrs at the 24hr Tescos today. I’ve gone from a hard working 1st Gen 750 bought in February 2000 to a stubborn 750s with the Zoran Chipset that doesn’t want to be hacked!

To help you help me here is what’s inside the box:
