Wharfedale 750s & Certain Zoran chipset

DJ Denon (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 20th December 2000, 08:58

I saw this in a thread from early December 2000, "The 750s hack only applies to certain Zoran chipset machines."

My question is? What can I do if I have a Wharfedale 750s that will not accept any of the listed Hacks for the First & Second Generation Wharfedale 750s...

Doe`s it mean I have a Third Generation Wharfedale 750s?

Or do I take the unit back to Tescos and try for me money back?

I am on my third unit after swapping my fist for a 750s, which bizarrely had no Audio Out metal Phono Shields to my Third that will not accept any listed hand set hacks?

All this has happened in one morning, 20th December 2000 between 04.00hrs and 05.30hrs at the 24hr Tescos today. I’ve gone from a hard working 1st Gen 750 bought in February 2000 to a stubborn 750s with the Zoran Chipset that doesn’t want to be hacked!

To help you help me here is what’s inside the box:

Firmware Chips:
>>>
Chip 1: U4w CS=AE71
Chip 2: U6w CS=05FC

Video A/D Chip:
>>>
Zoran ZR36710TQC
C4 UM0B0019F
Vaddis III DD Digital

Main Circuit Board Reference:
>>>
PF-DVD-4-2-A2

It`s probably just the firmware that has been changed.
not the chipset.

Can the Wharfy S have its firmware flashed?

From what I`ve read on the forum its a case of replacing the Firmware Chips, which are by the look of it only available from a Tesco engineer?

Do You Know Any?

I know people do it with newer apex players that have non flashable roms, they buy the roms chips blank and use some special kit to program the chips with older firmwares that have multiregion secret menu`s and macrovision disable.

If your willing to pay a few quid I am sure some of the multiregion guys who frequent these forums would sell you an older firmware chip which you would have to install yourself, unless you paid them to do it.

This sounds like I’ve made a mistake taking my Original hard working 750 back to Tesco’s. The hacks worked and to date (20/12/00) I had not had a problem with any of the R1 or R2 disks in library.

But my 12month warranty was due to expire and I think I’ve rushed my moves to soon.

Bummer, I guess I`ll be getting my money back because I`ll just be taking pot luck if I exchange it again for another possibly dud 750s

Can`t Any Of You Out There Help Me On This One?

I Can`t watch any R1`s on my newly Swaped Wharfe 750s (which I think is a third generation issue because none of the hacks work at all and I mean NONE, TWICE & FOUR TIMES OVER.)

Info Needed People?

I did notice that it will take a 4 Digit Number on the DvD Startup Screen but the 111&1 and 111&2 hacks don`t work?

Help Me Please!!!???

The hack is 11111 and 11112. Did you type the above incorrectly? If not, then that`s why the hack isn`t working, not enough numbers.

If you have done it correctly, apologies and I`ll go and lie down somewhere in a dark corner :)

I have tried it with three 1s, four 1s, five 1s and six 1s, but the dam thing still won`t hack even when I use the alternative 1s with a 2 at the end.

I get Three Stars in the top Left of my TV Screen for the first Three Digits entered and then I get a Hand Icon flash in the Top Left of the TV Screen for every button pressed after the Third?

I think I have a “Certain Zoran Chipset” that’s been modified by the Manufacturer to p*** Me Off.

And by the lack of comments based on personal experience with this 750s problem, I look to be the only person to have swapped his hard working 750 for an Award-Winning 750s Chastity Belt, locked down like a 18th Century Virgin.

I give up, the dam thing is going back…
