Scan SC2000 Firmware 2.08 experiences

DaveyG (Competent) posted this on Friday, 19th January 2001, 23:18

I purchased my player 1/11/2000, which came with version 1.64 firmware installed..
After installing firmware version 1.80 then 204s and then 2.08 the picture
became some what pixellated on dark areas of the screen.
So after reinstalling firmware version 1.80
(Had to install twice until the message writting / Done came up on the screen.) I then installed version 2.08.
Everything seems fine now.... Pixellation gone ?

Has anybody else had problems upgrading from one version to another ?

Nellish.

Was Firmware version 2.08 written for all machines.
i.e. V1.64 upwards todate.

It appears that installing certain firmware versions on top of others, doesnt work very well sometimes. Do you have any response to this from the manufacturer ?

Some folks are having real problems. There`s at least 2 people with dead machines now after trying to update the firmware.

Doesn`t really inspire confidence does it Davey?

Does v2.08 have long filenames for MP3`s and do you know what the story is with macrovision? I`m hanging back from upgrading at the moment just in case ;-)

I wish they`d include a list of bug fixes and enhancements (or not) with each release. Surely that`s not difficult....

Hello Malky...

I`ve upgraded to version 2.08 and recorded `The Beach` to VHS tonight without any problems.

No long file names for MP3 files are included with this release.

Maybe the people with dead machines had faulty machines to start off with ? or maybe they had a bad download of the internet which corrupted their machine ? I`ve changed the firmware on my player lots of times with no problems... ?

Considering the amount of scan players sold.. 1 or 2 dead machines isnt a high failure rate..(although this isnt any consolation for somebody who has a faulty machine.)

I agree with you on the bug fix / enhancement list... Nellish... You going to reply ?

I`ve tried to upgrade my sc2000 player but when I put the cd in it loads it, plays it for 8 seconds and stays there, it`s as though it`s not recognising it as an update! I`ve checked the upgrade file name in the setup and they match TDVD-000.rom

so what`s going on? has anyone else had this problem?

my player is a couple of months old and has the new mpeg card in so should be ok for the upgrade.

Cheers

pie_man,

Did you write your update CDR disc in CDRom/XA Mode1?

If not then you need to check your writter software to see is it can write to disc in the above stated format.

Try CDRWin 3.8 or NERO 5

I had no problems with the loading of 2.08, but I have yet to see the `writing` message. All I get is TDVD.000 on the screen, but the SSW definately shows a change of version.

No difference noted however. Apart from the 4 Disney R2 titles which I have mentioned before, all DVDs still play perfectly as far as I can tell.

I also do not get the `writing` message but the upgrade does take place.

I connect my player to the TV using S-Video. I believe that you only get the `writing `message if you use the SCART to connect the two.
