MODERN AIWA 370 EQUIVALENT

I Bought an Aiwa 370 a while ago after reading many posts on this newsgroups, this weekend I am planning on helping a friend choose a DVD player and was wondering what the best alternative is with similar features thats available on the market today, It must

1) Play CDR - VCD`s & Audio CD`s
2) Be below £200
3) Be remote hackable to play region 1`s & RCE
4) Optional - Play mp3 CD`s

Many Thanks,
Masha

RE: Playstation 2

No Multi region chips are available for any of the ps`2 (JAP / US / UK) However you can get a chip to play copied ps1 and ps2 games in jap ps2 machines, this uses a swap method where you have to boot with an original disk which is then ejected and a 2 seconds period is given for the copied disk to be inserted, this in my opinion is quite cumbersom but I believe within the next month or two there will be UK chips that work in a similar method to the ps1 chips and a good chance that they will unlock the DVD player regions.

Poncho, I think you need some councilling :)

RE: Wharfedale 750S problems with X-Men R1.

I too can now confirm 750s and Xmen has no problems!

RE: connecting sky digital, vcr and DVD all to 1 telly??

Dixons do a JVC goldplatted splitter(without switch) for 12.99

Not sure about the quality though, i`ve been thinking about getting one as both my dreamcast and dvd player perform much better through the RGB socket and I dont have a pass through on my dvd player :(

RE: Remotes

See the general forum for my post on the Cambridge m500

RE: Cambridge Audio m500 remote control

I presonally didnt want to have to spend £80 on a LCD remote and thought £30 was a good price to replace them all.

I have full control of my sky digibox with the remote and all of the sky buttons are marked up(info, services, tv guide etc etc)

My fiancee was a bit sceptical at first about using the remote, but took to it no problems(I was expecting all the other remotes to be out everytime I wanted to watch something) so I shouldn`t think your wife and kid will struggle. The buttons are clearly marked for basic functions, and I have added some functions which I didnt try explaining to her at first which allow me to control for instance the TV volume when I have DVD selected, and the screen ratio on tv / sat and dvd.

The learning procedure is simple, just put the remotes head to head, press learn and the required key and fire the desired control at it for a few seconds. This gave me a few problems at first, where I had pressed the buttons a couple of times while `learning` I found, for instance, when I tried changing channels the channel jumped two or three channels. However this isnt a problem if the remote recieves the information constantly while learning! There wasnt any functions that it wouldnt learn, this was my main concern as my Kenwood Hifi has a graphical remote control which seems to be of a non standard format, however it cant recieve information back from my hifi like the kenwood GRC could(obviously).

I didnt actuallly think anything of the odd numerical layout until the review I read pointed it out, so that wasnt a problem really, the backlit function is very handy for gettitng use to the keys, and the physical feel of the buttons helps you get used to it.

Remember this is *only* a learning remote, it will not replace lost remotes as it cannot have numerical codes for remotes entered into it like the cheap argos one4all remote`s. It is quite big, but that is expected for it does control 10 different types of devices.

I havent made use of the macro`s I would have liked to set one up to switch everything off, but seeing as most of my equipment uses a single on / off button I figured half the time it would switch some of my stuff off and some of it on and couldnt really figure any other proper uses for myself, although im sure some people would find it useful to macro different settins for speaker and equalizer levels which is very simple to do.

Hope that covers everything folks, sorry if its not well written but I only just got up and I`m feeling a little groggy :)

RE: Dixv conversion

How longs that take though?

RE: Wharfedale 750S problems with X-Men R1.

I should be able to try that combo out later today if I nip over to mothers, I``ll make a post later is possible, sounds more likely to be a disk problem, but you would be better off with the aiwa either way(unless you dont want a silver / champagne player)

RE: VCD Vs SVCD

By motion blur I am just generally talking about the difference between the quality of DVD and VCD, is it a big job to convert SVCD to VCD, what are the differences?

VCD Vs SVCD

I have an Aiwa 370, I am led to believe this player supports both VCD and SVCD, I have noticed VCD generally suffers from quite bad motion blur, does SVCD fix this, what are the advantages / disadvantages between the two formats?

Cambridge Audio m500 remote control

I picked one of these beautys up from my local richer sounds this morning and I must say im pretty impressed, It took me a couple of hours but its now set up and fully functional for my TV, Video, DVD player, Satellite, Amp, CD player, Tape Deck, Tuner.

On the whole im pretty pleased with it and at only 30quid I think its a bit of a bargain(good for ps2 owners if they can borrow someone elses).

RE: R1 Disc Trade-Ins?

My local another world have just started dealing 2nd hand and new region 1 & 2 dvd`s, I`m not sure of the legality of it but I wouldnt buy direct from them anyhow as there price are extortionate which i presume is because of the import tax etc, however they do pay good money for 2nd hand region 1`s, I`ve even been considering trading some of mine to get the r2 equivalent - I probably wont though

If you live in the midlands there`s more or likely one near you somewhere!

RE: Region 0 On Samsung 709

I had Leon sometime ago and noticed no problems. Do you need to rehack it following the firmware upgrade?

RE: Himage DVD2290 (region 2 only)

I asked about this player in my local richer sounds today, the assistant did tell me they were 109.99, I noticed there is no scart outlet on the back, theres only the S-video and phono leads, looked pretty basic but if all the cost has gone into picture and sound quality instead of gadgets it should be good but who knows?

RE: AWIA 370 or LG 3350e ???

RE: Wharfedale 750/750S Differences

I gather that most people have had sucess with Gladiator Disk 2 on the 750S where as 750 owners are the ones generally reporting the problems

Which I guess would mean that the 750S has more system memory as I read that was what is causing the problem with gladiator disk 2 in the 750

Feel free to correct me if im wrong folks!

RE: WoofDale DVD 750 *Dupe*

I picked up a 750s today for a family member, I was slightly concerned after reading of noisy drives on the forum but I got it home and it seems quiet, so it looks as if that problem has been rectified. Multiregioned no problems and plays all disks fine including cdr / cdrw vcd`s very impressive, but I cant help thinking its overpriced, had a black player not been requested im sure I could have got a better player for less in silver.

Still gets a thumbs up from me :)

RE: Philips DVD711 - it is multi Region

According to posts on this newsgroup, the 711 is fully multiregionable via the remote hack and now does no-longer lock out after 25 changes.........I am pretty much banking on this being true.

Why the aiwa?

RE: Philips DVD711 - it is multi Region

Well I got a price match for my richers sounds brochure at Allders making it 159.99, I have 2 on order, Only place that had them in stock in my area was martin dawes as they are still charging 229.99(allders retail price is 189.99 at the moment) but when the guy from martin dawes rang for a price check the lowest they would go in 200 not even matchings allders price only a few shops up.........good thing i have some patience...

Anyhow, does anyone know how good this player is at playing cdr based vcd`s?
