Don`t even think about it, even if u did manage it according to Sony it is impossible because the games use a slightly different format to the movies therefore making multi region possible but with just DVD films and not games. Confused, i was when the Sony rep told me. He also said anyone stupid enough to open a PS2 either has more money than hell or is they are just strange. I laughed, if i were u, i would just buy a DVD player, get an AIWA370 make it multi regional. The PS2 isn`t really designed to play films of the future and costs a hell of a lot more to replace if things go wrong!!!

I wonder how many people buy these thinking that they are a great DVD player?? -How sad they will be.

fair point, but having seen one in action all I can say is that it is a fairly reasonable DVD player.

so long as the PS2 owners see the DVD Video function it as a "bonus" to the machines game playing capabilities and aren`t expecting perfection they won`t be dissapointed. My mate has one and he isn`t too fussed about multi region etc - he will be using it for games and perhaps the odd rented movie so it fits this bill perfectly

For one thing the control of it via the joypad is a nightmare but apparently a remote is available for £15

Having been involved in the sale of approximately twenty units, the changeover of two, and the hassle with the other SIX that were faulty, I`d disagree!
Dunno if our store was just unlucky, but out of around 70 sold, we changed two (not supposed to, Sony are furious with us) and passed the "helpline" number to another 8, I`d say they were crap!
Thats the highest number of returns I`ve seen with a games console yet!!

It is available, but I think it`s between £20 to £30..I`ll check tomorrow and post! :o)

No Multi region chips are available for any of the ps`2 (JAP / US / UK) However you can get a chip to play copied ps1 and ps2 games in jap ps2 machines, this uses a swap method where you have to boot with an original disk which is then ejected and a 2 seconds period is given for the copied disk to be inserted, this in my opinion is quite cumbersom but I believe within the next month or two there will be UK chips that work in a similar method to the ps1 chips and a good chance that they will unlock the DVD player regions.
