I take it then, that the URC hack didn`t do the job???

RE: hitachi dv 305e anybody cracked it yet
Open the machine and it is a label on the far right side on top of a small chip. (Six screws I think, philips head should do it)
It`ll say v4.0xxx or something similar with a date (backwards)
If it`s v4.03 (like mine) a oneforall6 or 5 remote may do the job for you.
See the post `Hitachi DV305e success! elsewhere on this forum. Me and two other long sufferers have got it nailed with this remote hack.

RE: Hitachi DV305e success!
razorblade,
I`ve never bought an R1 disc in Dublin (I didn`t think there was anywhere to buy them ) :)
I`ve used DVDExpress & Amazon in the States & DVD BoxOffice in Canada.
DVDExpress prices are okay, sometimes you can get good bargains but they do charge P&P. Delivery time is up to 10 days normally. I`ve got a voucher book from them that`ll save me P&P at least once a month for the next year.
http://www.dvdexpress.com
Amazon in the US I`ve used only once or twice when their prices for certain discs I wanted (Fight Club, American Psycho) were cheaper than elsewhere with the use of online coupons. Delivery time about the same as DVDExpress.
http://www.amazon.com
DVD Box Office in Canada is the cheapest as they offer free P&P worldwide. I`ve only bought one disc from them (Halloween ) which worked out at about IR£15 and no P&P charge. I couldn`t find this version anywhere else but in that store.
However, delivery time was 4 weeks (And I think sometimes can be longer)
http://www.dvdboxoffice.com
For R2 discs, I shop around in Dublin (Virgin, HMV, Tower, Videostores etc) but I use Amazon UK or Blackstar in Belfast cos sometimes it`s cheaper.
Use http://uk.shopsmart.com for price comparisons for R2 discs in the UK
To decide which region I want for a particular movie, I refer to http://www.rewind.org.uk/digitalera/
which gives comparisons between R2 and R1 versions.
You might want to subscribe to this mailing list which gives pointers to some bargains in discs and hardware. It`s not very busy though.

This is probably way offtopic for this forum, so I`ll shut up now :)

RE: Hitachi DV305e success!
FM,
The procedure between the lines below are the *only* steps I needed to take to make this work. Absolutely nothing else was necessary.
The oneforall procedure produces just _one_ programmed key.
(1) Press the AUD button
(2) Press and hold the MAGIC key until it flashes twice
(3) Enter 0121
(4) Press and hold the MAGIC key until it flashes twice
(5) Press 995
(6) Press the key you want to be assigned the macro
(7) Press the following keys as fast as you can in succession:
AUD, MAGIC, 078 *Do this twice*
or:
AUD, MAGIC, 079 *Do this twice*
or:
AUD, MAGIC, 078
AUD, MAGIC, 079
(8) Press the MAGIC key until LED flashes.
Turn your player on and when LOAD appears on the front display, hit your newly programmed oneforall key. (It may take a few tries before you get the timing right)
ADJUST appears on the front display and the tray will open.
The player will now play R1 discs.
These are *all* the steps I took to get what I wanted. I didn`t do anything else. Nothing. :)
I hope this works out for you and as Fab says, who cares if it isn`t permanent. One press of a button is all that`s needed to play R1 discs.

RE: Hitachi DV305e success!
I`m delighted Fabrize!
It was more luck than anything else.
I haven`t been able to ascertain whether there is some sort of limit to the number of times it can be done (no time to do it), if there is I`m sure there`ll be a way around it. Oops, I may just try it out tonight - just in case:)
FM stuill can`t get his to work with the oneforall, he has a different firmware to me.
His is v4.02 mine is v4.03.
I wonder would you tell him what the markings on your chip are? Would that be of use to him?
Ray: Although the oneforall is expensive and I thought at first it was a waste of money, it has come in very handy for using instead of messing around with 5 seperate remotes. Hope it works out for you.
And Steve, I wouldn`t be able to or have the nerve to attempt that! :L)

RE: Hitachi dv-p305e multi region code won`t work...
FM,
It did work for me and Fabrize anyways :)
The labelling on my chip thing was:
DV-P305E(UK)
v4.03
C.2000.07.3
I programmed that exact sequence and assigned it to spare button B on the URC.
As I`ve said, the only different thing I can think that I did from the zillion previous attempts was:
1) Changed the `Front Display` option in `Setup` to Bright
2)Pressed the programmed button at the exact time when LOAD appears on the front display.
I`m not sure if 1) is important, but 2) definitely is.
I hope you get a solution soon.
Best of luck

RE: Hitachi DV305e success!
Hi Ray,
The oneforall remote is about £40 odd quid (I got mine in Dixons, Jervis Street). When I couldn`t get it to work, I thought what a waste, but I did find use for it afterwards with my tv/vcr etc.
The instructions are correct and taken directly from a page on this site:
http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/
under Hitachi.
Plus, seeing as you are in Ireland like me, did you by any chance buy the Hitachi in Dixons of Jervis Street? if so, there is a good chance it`s from the exact same batch with the exact same firmware as mine, therefore should work.
My firmware is v4.03 and the date on it is C.2000.7.03 (obviously that`s dated 3rd July 2000)
My guess is if you have this firmware, the oneforall will work.
Give it a go:)
You could always buy the remote, try it for a few days and if it doesn`t work, return it. (I believe Argos ask no questions) :)

Hitachi DV305e success!
SUCCESS!
I can`t believe it!
I have finally got my Hitachi DV305e to play R1 discs.
I have been trying the remote hacks since before Christmas with no joy. I even bought a OneforAll URC7560 and tried (what I thought) was everything. No luck.
Today, just now in fact, I had a spare few hours at home and decided to give it another whirl, spurred on by the fact of Lynx at this thread http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=15838
having got his to work.
I fired up the page with the Multi-Region Hacks for Samsung DVD-709 with firmware v3.26 or later, and got working. (I had been through this a million times)
I programmed my One4all remote (as I had done before) with this:
Press the AUD button
Press and hold the MAGIC key until it flashes twice
Enter 0121
Now program the following macro sequence to any key
Press and hold the MAGIC key until it flashes twice
Press 995
Press the key you want to be assigned the macro (for instance the blue teletext key)
Press the following keys as fast as you can in succession: AUD, MAGIC, 078
Press the following keys as fast as you can in succession: AUD, MAGIC, 078
NB: some people have reported that 079 works either for the last entry above, or both the above entries.
Press the MAGIC key until LED flashes.
Point the remote to your player and press the macro key (for instance the blue teletext key)
Now, the only other thing I did differently (I think) was to enter the display menu and change the `Front Display` option from AutoDim to Bright.
According to the hackpage, this should set the player permanently to multiregion (it didn`t in my case)
Anyway, turned power off at machine, powered up again, hit the key assigned to the macro above (just as LOAD appeared on the machine display) and voila, ADJUST appeared on the display and the tray popped open. I stuck in an R1 disc and it was all systems go.
I tried a R2 disc straight after without powering off, and it played too.
I have since been coldstarting and making sure this wasn`t a one off, and it works everytime.
(Sometimes, I seem to have to hit the macro key twice when LOAD appears)
It isn`t a permanent hack, but that means I can play RCE discs as well, I believe.
Is there anything I can do to help any of you guys (open the machine and report the firmware number?) I`d need to know what to be looking for :)
To recap, sorry I`m going on a bit, but this was driving me nuts for the past few weeks:
I used a ONEforAll URC7560 (The Oneforall 6)
Programmed one of the spare keys with the sequence above.
Powered on the machine. (Either by remote or pressing the button on the player)
Hit the macro key as LOAD appears in the LED display
ADJUST appears on the display and tray opens.
Put in R1 disc.
Anyways, thanks to this site I am free from the evil of regional encoding! ;)

RE: Hitachi DV-P305e using Thomson hack, help please!!
FM,
I don`t know the answer to that. I believe I`d have to open the case up to locate it(?)
I may end up doing that, but tomorrow (Fri) I`m going to get one of those one4all things and give that a try seeing as dockarl got his working with it. I`ll ask the guy in the store if he knows what firmware my machine has (he was pretty knowledgable and understood about region hacks, which isn`t always the case)
I would like to know what one4all model dockarl used though.

--------
Bought the One4All (URC 7560), but so far it hasn`t worked :(
I`ve followed the instructions to the letter, but will keep trying as others have said it may take quite a few attempts. Maybe I`ll strike lucky or maybe I`m just p***ing in the wind...
I`ll be keeping the new remote though :)
I hope Mike G gets a reply soon in his search for the Hitachi eeprom.

RE: Hitachi DV-P305e using Thomson hack, help please!!
Stewart,
In desperation I tried that, even though I knew it would not work.
I have tried the correct procedure countless times, but no dice. :(
It does seem that whatever firmware revision is in my, FM`s and Fabrize`s Hitachi is not hackable (yet).
Mine was bought just yesterday and already I`ve aged 20years! I guess I`ll have to be patient.
RE: Hitachi DV-P305e using Thomson hack, help please!!
Hi FM,
I have just read your various posts on 709online.com
May I confirm with you that you have also tried the hack using the one4all procedure (or directly with an Aiwa RC?)
I don`t want to go buy a one4all and find it`s of no use in this case.
To think I had an actual Samsung 709 in my sights and got sidetracked by the Hitachi model :(
RE: Hitachi DV-P305e using Thomson hack, help please!!
Fabrize, you are not alone!
I am also almost certifiable at this stage. The guy in Dixons even dissuaded me from buying a One4All cos he said this model definitely could be multi-regioned with it`s own remote.
I have tried evry possible way to make the Thomson hack work:
1) Put the codes in on the language selection screen (this just results in German being chosen as the language)
2) Selected my language then applied the codes.
All from a coldstart. Nothing.
No messages appear on the screen (or led display)
So, can anyone shed any light on this? Have any Hitachi owners got this to work using the Hitachi remote (mine is a DV-RM300)?
Please, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!
