RE: Please Helppp! DVD created with Ulead Videostudio 8 wont play in Panasonic E55

Thanks everybody,

I agree its the Panny as the Bush and PS2 have no problem with the discs. (I tried reducing burn speed to 4x with no improvement.)

Bizzarely (spelling!) I seem to have found a workround.

By recording a DVD, (I think I also have the option to create a disc image), then running it through DVDShrink, the Panny recognises and plays it.

I can send the original disc to my parents / inlaws, (if their DVD can read it) and everybodys happy.

Unless anybody knows of a better way

RE: Please Helppp! DVD created with Ulead Videostudio 8 wont play in Panasonic E55

Thanks Emily.

no issues with the media, the DVD-r media, they work in another machine, and back up copies of my childrens DVDs work in the E55 on this media.

In the settings menu - Data rate is variable - 8000kbs max, I assume this is both video and audio.

I have just noticed an option `Compatable with DVD-VR` I assume this is DVD Video recorder so will tick this and try again.

Edit - That hasnt made a difference, though Ive tried the disc in a PS2 and it works OK in there, suggesting its he Panasonic - Ill try running it through DVDShrink and see if that makes a difference

Any other suggestions,.....anybody.............please!!!!?

Please Helppp! DVD created with Ulead Videostudio 8 wont play in Panasonic E55

Hope somebody can help me.

I have downloaded a trial version of Ulead 8 to transfer some digital video of my children taken on a Sony MV700 onto DVD.

The initial DVDs Ive made (using the wizard) seem fine (other than a `Lets celebrate` theme and some silly mask I have worked out how to get rid of) - Except for one major drawback.

The DVD`s created (High Quality PAL) dont play on my E55, simply coming up as unsupported. (However, they play fine in an older Bush DVD player we use in the bedroom)

The DVD-Rs Im using are Datawrite grey 8x, which record and play OK in the E55 generally.

Can anybody help - or point me in the direction of some software that will work with the E55.

RE: Help - PC Wont Boot

Help - PC Wont Boot

I have a 7 year old Pentium II 650 machine running Win 98 SE which recently refuses to boot up.

It runs the initial mem test OK, and seems to detect the hard drive, CDRW etc, but stalls at the windows start up page.

After an age it will enter the screen allowing you to select normal / safe modew etc, it then takes an age to go anywhere, hanging on a black screen with the message

While initialising device VK_

or

While initialising device VKD
Windows protec(tion error?)

It worked OK yesterday so I have tried entering command line and using scanreg /restore but only get a blue screen with no restore points.

Anybody have any ideas, is it hardware or would a reinstall suffice?

RE: Can I access BT email if I change ISP

Thanks,

will give it a try, if it doesnt work I can always move back after a month I suppose.

Can I access BT email if I change ISP

Sorry if this is a really basic question, but Im not very computer literate.

I currently subscribe to btyahoo broadband, and have set my family up with the obligatory @btopenworld email adresses.

But, as the price of uncapped broadband acees from other providers is dropping (Bulldog 8 mb looks appealing!) Im tempted to change.

Can I still access btopenworld email? (After 5 years pretty much everyone has these addresses and changing doesnt really appeal)

Thanks

Nick

Anybody used - The Digiboxshop.com

Anybody any experience of the above?

I ordered a TV Link (Magic eye) from them on Monday for £6.99 including royal mail recorded delivery from Basildon.

I was informed it was despatched the same day but I have not yet recieved it,customer services seems to be constantly engaged, and they havent responded to an email.

Edit - have responded to email and are investigating.

DMRE55 and Channel 5

Wonder if anyone can help with this question.

Currently running an analogue aerial via a Ysplitter into my sons bedroom and the main living room.

From my sons bedroom another y splitter takes the cable into a second bedroom - both rooms recieve channels 1 through 5 fine.

In the living room I have installed a signal booster, and feed the aerial via a skybox into a E55 - into the TV - Very poor C5 reception. However, if I run the aerial direct from the booster to the TV skipping skybox and Panasonic - Reception is acceptable with no retuning.

I also feed the sky via RF2 through a Y splitter into a second and 3rd TV downstairs with acceptable quality on C1 to 5 and sky, but again I am unable to tune either set into C5 via the aerial - which I guess suggest the skybox is causing the problem

Any suggestions? (Its bugging me!!!)

Also, would I notice a significant improvement in signal if I replaced the unscreened coax (with a join) running from the RF2 into Tvs with `proper` digital double screened variant. Cable run is approx 10m to TV2 and a further 3 m to TV3

RE: Digital Video Essentials DVD - Colour Balancing Question

Thanks for the offer 42%.

Out of interest, where in Leicester is your shop?

I ask as I actually work for a company based on Hamilton Industrial Park (though personally home based in London) and I am up there 1 or 2 days a week. I have a colleague asking me for advice on DVD recorders around the £120-£150 mark might appreciate your details!

Cant really ask Lovefilm for my money back as its a 6 week free trial I probably wont continue!!

RE: Digital Video Essentials DVD - Colour Balancing Question

Thanks 42%,

Thats what Ive done, + balanced red and green using Cokin photographic filters for these 2 colours.

Tanned people looked sort of Mahogony, then I realised I was watching Bargain Hunt and David Dickinson really is that colour.

The only blue filter I could find (off a childs toy - OK so Im a cheapskate), doesnt seem dark enough to convert the white on the reference page to blue.

I was wondering if any of you professionals had an inside tip, such as Cokin 80A / B / C filter or similar as an alternative. (which may be quicker & cheaper than trying to order from New Jersey at christmas.)

Digital Video Essentials DVD - Colour Balancing Question

Hi,

Ive rented the Digital Video Essentials disc from Lovefilm to help me set up my Panasonic CRT TV correctly.

To set component colour balance I need a blue filter, which comes with the original disc, but not with the rented one.

Does anybody know what I can use as an alternative. (Ive looked for blue cellophane sweet wrappers etc all night with out any success.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved!

RE: OEM SATA Hard Drive - Advice needed

Thanks Chug A Bug.

Think Ill just use it as both back up and extra storage as intended.

Just need to find cables and fasteners now.

RE: Which firmware should I flash for the NEC 3500 DVD writer?

All the info you need will be found on this site

www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tt.asp?forumid=88

It will explain what to do, where to find the firmware, RPC1 (Region free), Riplock (Faster ripping), booktyping etc etc etc. (Though you may to search)

Link should take you to the NEC section.

It also has sections about DVD shrink DVD Decryptor, etc

RE: OEM SATA Hard Drive - Advice needed

Thanks MilesR

MB has connections for 2 SATA devices inc power connector, so it can be set up in a raid configuration. (Dont have a clue what that actually means though!)

Thanks Chug a Bug,

I knew that OEM didnt usually come with software etc, but was unsure of cables and fasteners. Looks like a post Xmas trip to my local PC shop will be required.

RE: OEM SATA Hard Drive - Advice needed

PC was bought complete from Carrera. I didnt specify an SATA drive when ordering (though the AsRock K8S8X MB supports them). Carrera didnt have the foresight to send me the cables as part of the package.

Im now fitting a second internal HDD for extra storage and backing up of the original drive and thought SATA was the way to go.

Hope I havent made a mistake!

RE: OEM SATA Hard Drive - Advice needed

Thanks,

not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for replying.

OEM SATA Hard Drive - Advice needed

Hi,

Ive just ordered a Western Digital 120gb SATA HDD from ebuyer (OEM).

My question is, will it include the SATA data and power connecting cables?

Thanks

RE: Free DVD Rental.

Is the six week trial direct with Lovefilm - I dont fancy the 2 week tesco trial or 4 week Sainsburies trial until after Xmas (to many bank holidays and an excess of post!) - 6 weeks would be nice!

RE: DMRE55 - JPEGs

According to the instruction manual it does not read picture CDs.

Just copied some of my holiday photos (jpegs) to a CD-RW and tried it in the machine - all I get is a message stating unsupported. (I assume thats the .jpg not the media)

I dont mind being corrected but I dont think the DMRE55 recognises jpegs.

RE: Dixons group to stop selling VCR

Err, could it be that most homes already have a video recorder and the market is saturated.

I know lots of people who havent bought DVD players because theyre waiting for the `recordable` ones as a VHS replacement.

Edit - im a slow typer, posted at a similar time to above post!!

RE: Best Way to link Panasonic E55 to Panasonic TX36PL32 - Please.

Because I had difficulty sussing out progressive Ive used RGB more. I have only really watched a couple of DVDs using component.

My first impressions of interlace component was that it was an improvement over RGB.
My first impressions of progressive component was that it was an improvement over interlaced.

I watched Troy on progressive and the picture was incredibly sharp and pure, and even Some Like It Hot on DVD in B&W gave a superb picture

However, having convinced the wife that we needed progressive component I have to find it better than RGB.:). Also, my RGB scart cable cost £2.50, the component lead (I replaced the phono cables I used initially) was about £12 with each of the 3 cables the thickness of the RGB lead!! Thats gotta help.

My in laws have the 32inch Toshiba (and Sky, but still watch 1,2,3,4 on terrestrial!!) and its also a great picture (and sound) I dont think you would be dissapointed with either.

RE: dvd burner question

I use Datawrite greys at 8x with DVDShrink and DVD decryptor no problem on an NEC2510a burner. I know that some DVDR firmwares dont always read the discs at stated write speed with certain dyes which could be an issue.

One thing that confused me was that, unlike a CD my DVDR does not burn at a constant speed, it starts (from memory) at 1.1x on the lead in, climbs to 4.2x, then peaks at 8.3x as it progresses across the disc. If you listen you can hear the speed increase, and once burned, you can see where the write speed increased in the dye layer. (This made me think my burner read ANV 8x discs at 4x, but it doesnt, it hits 8x. I even updated firmware to try and cure the `problem`)

Have you monitored write speed across the disc

Lots of in depth knowledge on this site www.cdrinfo.com/forum/

RE: Best Way to link Panasonic E55 to Panasonic TX36PL32 - Please.

I have now managed to get the progressive scan function on the Panasonic TX36 to work with the E55

As initially described, I got a good picture (better than RGB) on interlace component, but on the E55 menu screen, switch on progressive and the picture went berserk, flickered like mad, and made it difficult to turn progressive off again. If playing a DVD and changing to the component input in progressive I got two pictures side by side with horizontal flickering - unwatchable

When I read the instructions for the TV more closely, it turned out I had to `enable` progressive scan on the component input (AV4C on the Panasonic TV). The TV is 100hz scan as standard, but to switch on progressive I needed to access the picture menu when on AV4C, and this gave me the option of switching from 100hz to progressive - hey prest, end of problem.:)

This instruction was hidden away in the description of the Picture menu almost as an afterthought, but not mentioned in the progressive scan area of the instructions.:(

Dont know if this helps.

I wonder why the E55 instructions seem so keen to push the Scart connection over component with CRT TVs, wonder if its to do with refresh rate as the TV instructions state 50hz and progressive scan will lead to flickering.
