Please Helppp! DVD created with Ulead Videostudio 8 wont play in Panasonic E55

Hope somebody can help me.

I have downloaded a trial version of Ulead 8 to transfer some digital video of my children taken on a Sony MV700 onto DVD.

The initial DVDs Ive made (using the wizard) seem fine (other than a `Lets celebrate` theme and some silly mask I have worked out how to get rid of) - Except for one major drawback.

The DVD`s created (High Quality PAL) dont play on my E55, simply coming up as unsupported. (However, they play fine in an older Bush DVD player we use in the bedroom)

The DVD-Rs Im using are Datawrite grey 8x, which record and play OK in the E55 generally.

Can anybody help - or point me in the direction of some software that will work with the E55.

1: try reducing burning speed to 4X

2: Use +R discs. There are more compatible than -R

If the discs work in another machine, I reckon it`s not the software at fault. It`s the media.

Won`t make any difference-as the orignal poster says, it plays fine in another player

wrong-DVD-R has a higher compaibility rate than +R. Not by much, but it still has a definate edge.

If the discs work in another machine, how can it be the media?? The problem is the Panasonic. They are quite picky over what they will play (Though not as picky as Sony).

It might be worth going back over your authoring method-just make sure that the combined audio and video bitrate does not exceed 9.8mb/sec This is the maximum that the DVD - Video standard allows. Most players will play over that figure, but some won`t. A lot of DV is recorded at 13Mb/sec, so it could be you need to re compress the DV footage before creating your DVD

Thanks Emily.

no issues with the media, the DVD-r media, they work in another machine, and back up copies of my childrens DVDs work in the E55 on this media.

In the settings menu - Data rate is variable - 8000kbs max, I assume this is both video and audio.

I have just noticed an option `Compatable with DVD-VR` I assume this is DVD Video recorder so will tick this and try again.

Edit - That hasnt made a difference, though Ive tried the disc in a PS2 and it works OK in there, suggesting its he Panasonic - Ill try running it through DVDShrink and see if that makes a difference

Any other suggestions,.....anybody.............please!!!!?

I am speaking from experience only.

I have a sony dvp s35d and -R will not play at all

I have wharfdale M5 -R will not play at all

I have tried lent -R`s, nero encoded -r`s about 10 types in total
.
+R`s play fine in both players.

As I understand it in the early days all PC writers were +R .. yet again.. I could be wrong.

I concur with emily... it`s the Panny!

Thanks everybody,

I agree its the Panny as the Bush and PS2 have no problem with the discs. (I tried reducing burn speed to 4x with no improvement.)

Bizzarely (spelling!) I seem to have found a workround.

By recording a DVD, (I think I also have the option to create a disc image), then running it through DVDShrink, the Panny recognises and plays it.

I can send the original disc to my parents / inlaws, (if their DVD can read it) and everybodys happy.

Unless anybody knows of a better way

No DVD-VR refers to a format which is generally used on standalone recorders and keeps the recorded footage in a completely editable situation until the disc is finalised. DVD-VR is far less likely to be compatible with other DVD players.

Indeed you could :-)

-R and +RW have developed separately but almost simultaneously, In some areas of the world, you won`t find +R machines or media-Japan being a prime example as most of thier brand name manufacturers went with the -R format and/or the RAM format.

+R/RW has scored because it`s the format of choice on virtually all the `no name` brands (I`m not saying that in any derogatory way, there are some fine players/recorders made by these companies) and it has driven standalone recording into the mass market.

So who won the format war?? Neither of them-as almost every PC drive you can buy now can write to both. However if you look long and hard for independant tests, you will see that R still has a few percentage points more compatibility, though on players made in the last couple of years or so, you should never come across a compatibility problem that is the fault of the media. The only -R/RW that I`ve received from people that have failed to play has been because the sender didn`t realise that all -R discs have to be finalised to make them playable in other machines
