Who would possibly be thinking of buying this player?!!!!!!

Trust me everyone stay well clear, Scan are the new Techtronics!!!

Also theres a review of there player in the new whatvideo mag which gives it a poor review.

And its not a great value player, the WharfedaleM5 is only £170 and it kicks Scans Players Arse. Buy yourself a proper branded player instead.

Scans CS is absolutely appauling, like many many people i wouldnt buy from them again , see:: http://www.romulus2.com/vbpro/scan/entries.html
for their customer reviews.

There`s not one mention of the Scan SC-2000 in that thread philip j. I am a proud owner of a Scan DVD player and it`s great. Well worth it.

I would like to say that the couriers they use are useless. Right now I`m in the middle of them investigating whether my package was actually stolen while in their possession!!! Three seperate delivery days I had organised yet they failed to show. After giving them one hell of a grilling about where my parcel was, I jokingly made a remark along the lines of "Well, where is it then? Has it been stolen or something?" And the reply was, "It seems likely". I couldn`t beleive it. They`ve been letting me arrange delivery days, getting friends and family to house sit for me when they didn`t even know where my parcel WAS let alone have the ability to deliver it! A farce. The company they use are called City Link. I`ve even spoken to their head office and was promised it would arrive yesterday. After this morning`s conversation, it seems it will be a long time before it`s delivered. If ever.

Quite right. Scan are crap!

Obviously if youv`e got one of their crap players you think there good!.
If those people were to go buy themselves an M5, Pioneer or Toshiba, they would realise just what theyv`e been missing.

This months whatvideo&tv: Scan DVD Picture Quality: 7/10 !!! (which is pretty low for the Whatvideotv ratings)
And i quote " For the serious audio/videophile it is undeniably lacking"

For the money there are much better players out there!!!.

Lots of people will be looking to buy this machine and why not.
What video didn`t give it a poor review at all.Just shows your bias to suggest it did. They were suitably impressed at a machine that was well up to the mark for the money.
See than this machine still gets people hot under the collar.

What people don`t realise is that the reviews most of you are reading are quite old. Technology moves along at a blistering pace and Scan release constant firmware updates for their players and ship players with the latest firmware already installed. If you saw a review more than a couple of months old, then the chances are whatever gripes they had about picture quality and crashing etc are now gone. In fact there will be a new firmware out very shortly which will add long file name support for MP3`s and a whole host of improved features.

Don`t knock the Scan player, it`s more than keeping up to date with it`s critics saying it "can`t do this, can`t do that".

It`s a solid player and it`s played every single disk I`ve thrown at it without a single hitch. AND!!!...it`s still improving!

How many of you out there have budget players that are now costing you upwards of 20 pounds to chip to play the latest DVDs? How many of you out there have to simpley replace their players in order to play the latest DVDs? Scan owners don`t.

I am not bias, I am just fed up of everyone saying how poor it is. Any problem you can find with the player a few months ago, would have mre than likely vanished now.

Hi

Sorry im not talking about old reviews i am talking about "THIS MONTHS"
review, and I am not bias as i am quoting from the review itself !!
Which says, and i quote:::

"For the serious audio/videophile it is undeniably lacking" -
Picture Quality:: 7/10

As for "Its good for the money, this is ridiculous.

It isn`t a cheap player many good players cost under £200. The Wharfedale M5 is actually cheaper than the scan player!! (Scans being £163.11+11.75 postage= £175) The M5 is £169.

The M5 p***es all over the scan. until you guys buy a decent player, of course your going to think your scan is good, id probably defend it if i had one, people driving Ladas defend their cars!!, but the arguments about cheap player, old reviews, and bias, just dont add up!!

Anyone looking to buy a player, buy yourself a:
"cheaper" and "better"
player buy the M5 !!

:-)

ps. IMO Aftersales is just as important as the player and Tescos aftersales kicks Scan into touch - seeing as Scan are one of the worst aftersales companies in the uk!

Sorry not to let this go but you are not been fair.
What Video`s review this month is of the Scan dvd player plus the Scan AV-6,an all in one Dolby Digital, dts 5.1 channel processor, amplifier with 5 speakers and subwoofer. The whole package with dvd player is sold by Scan for about £400.So the review comment "For the serious audio/videophile it is undeniably lacking" has to be taken in that context.
Personally my DD amplifier cost more than that on its own and mine is only mid range. The serious audio/videophile would expect to have to pay much more to satisfy his higher expectations. If anyone read the whole review it is not poor.In fact the reviews for this machine have been consistantly good. The one fly in the ointment has been the poor CS.But this is a different issue and should not be confused with the quality of the player.

Also, magazine`s are prepared months in advance. If that is a current copy of the mag, chances are the review was actually done over two months ago. The major firmware release, which they were unlikely to have on that player would be 2.33 which is the greatest improvement yet. All from just bunging a CD in your player to update it. No return to base, no arguments with salemen, no waiting in all day for a delivery driver to pick the thing up and re-deliver it.
