RE: One more Time get on your Feet for the Mighty reds of Anfield!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im neither a Man U, or a Liverpool supporter, but Liverpool did have a blinding end to the season. I still dont think they are good enough to beat Man U though. I personally dont think that they would be able to score as much as they did against Alaves.

Go Gillingham!!

RE: green screen help...

Although i dont have a green screen for the films on my PS2, does anyone know how i can connect my PS2 to my TV, so that it changes scart automatically????
I always have to do it manually.

Has anyone received any of thier orders yet? I want to order anti-trust, but i dont want them to take weeks.

RE: Master Care, and other retail insurance plans.

Thanks guys for your usefull information. I did as you all generally advised and i had a very helpfull manager asure me that he would see that the turn around for my laptop repair take 5 working days, with a gurantee for it to be with me within 2 weeks if they have to order the parts. He also advised me that he will personally deal with advent to replace my restore CD.
If they cant get all of the above done within 2 weeks, he said they would loan me a laptop until mine is repaired.
So, to sum this story up.
It definately helps if you deal with the organ grinder and not the monkey. He agreed that the service lines leave a lot for the store managers to do, and that a young and unexperienced sales force only have limited knowledge of what they are dealing with. He also gave me his card so if i ever have any problems or queries to ask for him personally and he would try to help me. I found that i didnt need to yell, threated watchdog, quote, quote and rules from trading standards. i just asked for a moment of his time, voiced my concerns and voila!
I have to say it, i dont think i would ever purchase a PC from there again, but if i did, i would take out a seperate insurance on it and not the one dixons sell!!

Thanks Guys

Bruce

RE: any body heard anything from stardvds

Why do people buy these? arent they substandard and crap quality?I would rather wait for region 1.

RE: any body heard anything from stardvds

Hi,

How did you manage to get that film on DVD this soon??

Master Care, and other retail insurance plans.

Having read what you guys had to say on this subject i thought i would get an opinion on my little problem.

I bought a laptop from PC World in february of this year. I still havent received the recovery CD from the store, and ADVENT, the manufacturer. I wouldnt usually mind and i am reasonably patient, but my machine has recently broken down and in true PC Support fashion, the helplines solution was to de-install, and re-install all of the software. To do this i was told i needed the recovery CD. The helpline told me to get in touch with PC World, who the fobbed my off and told me to go back to the helpline, who then told me to contact the manufacturer, who havent got any in stock and wont have for a month. Absolutely rediculous!
Problem number 2! I managed to fix my PC ( Without de-installing anything). The only problem now is that the DVD rom drive has broken down. I spoke to the helpline who refered me to the store, they then told me to speak to the helpline and ask to get the removable drive replaced.
I asked the helpline this, stressing the importance of needing the laptop for business reasons. They said it would take 2 weeks to repair, and that time isnt guaranteed!!!!!!!
I spoke to PC W`s store manager who want prepared to loan me a laptop to take on a business trip while mine was being repaired!!
I have found the staff at both PC World, and the helpline polite, but braindead!!! I agree with what JIMBO was saying, but this is crazy. I paid nearly £300 for my cover plan for a Laptop that has broken down this soon! It seems a high price to pay for a crap service!

RE: Info on dvd players, portable and standalone

Just a word of advice, if your looking to get a portable DVD player, why not go the whole hog for a small amount more and get a Laptop with a DVD drive.

StartDVDs - Surround sound

Hi

I have just been looking at that stardvds site and have noticed that they are selling surround sound kit for £119.00 called a Nicole SD 1000 5.1, has anyone ever heard or owned this and if so what was it like?

Star Wars - Jedi, a religion?

An e-mail saying that Jedi - the faith in the Star Wars films - will become an official religion if enough people put it down in the forthcoming British census is a hoax.
The e-mail has been sent all over the country in the last two weeks stating that if 10,000 people put Jedi on the census form, it will become a "fully recognised and legal religion".

But the Home Office has said that no matter how many people declare that they follow it, the census counting system means it will not be recognised.

A similar thing happened in New Zealand last month when citizens were led to believe they needed 8,000 signatures to make Jedi an official religion.
Millions of people worldwide are fans of the Star Wars films, and although they have become something of a cult, very few - if any - can be said to seriously follow Jedi as a faith.

But fans are urged to buck the census system in the e-mail, which has become "viral" - meaning that it is passed on to many different people very quickly.

"As some of you may know there is a census coming around on April the 10th," it reads.

"If there are enough people who put down a religion that isn`t mentioned on the census form, it becomes a fully recognised and legal religion.

"It usually takes about 10,000 people to nominate the same religion. It is for this reason that it has been suggested that anyone who does not have a dominant religion to put Jedi as their religion.

Football team

"Send this on to all your friends and tell them to put down Jedi on their census form."

But a Home Office spokesman has said this will not work.

Approximately 100 religions are given as options on the form - but Jedi is not one of them.

Jedi Creed
Should Jedi work for government?
Vomiting: Disgusting, or Lesson on Life?
There is an option for "other", but all those who choose this will be counted as one group and the different `other` responses will not be counted up individually.

"If 10, 10,000 or 50,000 people put Jedi in the `other` section of the census, it`s not going to be reflected in the output," the spokesman said.

The "other" responses will all be counted up under one code, whereas the other religions have a code each.

"In the last census, where we asked for a religion, lots of people who obviously don`t have a religion put their football team," the spokesman added.

Religious canon

"But it doesn`t matter whether you put Jedi, Manchester United, Chelsea, or whatever. It`s completely erroneous, it`s going to have no impact whatsoever."

The e-mail ended: "If this has been your dream since you were six years old... do it because you love Star Wars. If not... then just do it to annoy people."

Jedi is the religion that the heroes of the Star Wars films follow, and is supposedly a force created by all living things - hence the phrase "may the force be with you".

"It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together," Sir Alec Guinness said in 1977`s Star Wars.

But some fans are not taking it as a joke, distilling it into a religious canon and taking the film scripts as their scripture.

The Jedi Creed is a website operated by fans revelling in such assumed names as Jedi Relan Volkum and Lord Scorn.

It addresses such theological questions as "Should Jedi work for government?" and "Vomiting: Disgusting, or Lesson on Life?"

RE: does anyone else have a problem?

I also have an alba 103 and like poolie, i think its great. I do however share your concerns about the sound timing. I just put it down to all DVD players and discs having that problem. It would be interesting to know if it was just this model.
I have lots of DVD`s and most of them for most of the film the sounds are in sync with the rest of the film, but i know excactly what you mean and it does get very annoying.

RE: Getting the best out of my home cinema, any advice? Sharp 32

Thanks RB. I dont have a pro logic stereo, but the set ups you suggested may work, i will check them out.

Thanks

Bruce

RE: alba 103 macrovision

Hi, i think i stumbled on this accidently. Im trying yo find out how i did it. What excactly does macrovision do?

RE: Widescreen Telly - What to look out for ?

I have a Sharp 32" widescreen TV. I have Dolby pro-logic on it and you can pick them up for a touch over £700.00. Im sure if you went for the Nicam version it would be in your price range. Its far better than the other 2 you mentioned, with 5 adjustable ratio options. It has tonnes of features including split screen text, TV guide button, lots of ways to adjust the sound and picture quality.
Home entertainment gave it a great review, check www.dealtime.co.uk for the best prices in the UK.

ALBA 103 DVD

I was playing around with my DVD player last night and i pressed a few buttons at the same time and it came up with a weird on screen menu.
I couldnt figure out how i did it so i was wondering if anyone knew any way to get a secret menu on this machine.

Also, can someone reply to my earlier posting. Im determined to get this new kit before i move next week.

Thanks

RE: Newbie question - 2:35.1 format etc.....

I agree with the guy above. It backs up my statement, which is NEVER buy anything less than a 32" widescreen TV.
After seeing how much smaller pictures are even on my 32" widescreen, i cant imagine what it must be like on a 28" widescreen.

Getting the best out of my home cinema, any advice? Sharp 32" Widescreen, Alba 103 DVD

Got a problem. Im not quite sure how to utilise the best from my TV and DVD as far as sound goes. The TV sounds pretty tinny and the surround speakers distorts on some bassier DVD`s and TV programs. I have no idea on what the Hz numbers means on the graphic equaliser personal sound preference and im sure its ruining my surround speakers. Any ideas? I do have a quite good HI-FI, should i run it through there? If so, do i put the phono leads into the TV or DVD player?

The TV i bought is way to complex for an amateur and im sure that im gogint o ruin the set. I have read through the manual but cant find anything that explains manual set-up.

Is there anyone out there that knows about this TV?

Surround speakers TECHNICS????

I have been on the site www.dealtime.co.uk, enquiring about home cinema systems but im unsure about a few things.

They have a surround kit without decoder, but with 5 speakers, this package looks very modern and is only £100.00. The model number is SB-HT140. Does anyone know if this system is any good?

Also, I have a dolby pro logic television with right and left external speakers, but im wondering if i were to buy this kit, would i need another decoder, or would i run the speakers through the TV? My DVD player also has speaker ports, would it be better to use those ones?

Thanks

Bruce

RE: Widescreen 32

I agree with Vern here, the Panasonic PK1 and two are excellent sets and they will both match your LG, being silver and flat screened. If you want even better quality in sound then go for the PK1, which will be about £100 cheaper and put it towards a seperate amp and speakers. You will then get a much better system thats cheaper than the PK2.

If your on a tight budget then you could either go for a Hitachi, not sure of the model No. Or you could gor for a Sharp 32" dolby pro logic surround sound TV. It has tonnes of tuning features, split screen fast text etc, etc. It isnt flat screen, but at less than £800, its a bargain. Again, the panasonic will cost you another £350 - £500 more than the sharp and you could put the rest of your budget to a decent sound kit.

Im definately a believer that the sound quality is much more important than picture quality.

RE: Budget DVD Player or not?

I have just bought the ALBA103 from toys r us. I dont know a thing about DVD players but i found an article in the " What HIFI awards" magazine that says that it has a digital decoder and DTS capability.
Is your player the 103? and if so how did you get it to play region 1 discs? do i need to change anything inside the machine? One more thing, How can i tell what region 1 DVD`s are RCE encoded?

Thanks

RE: Hacks for Alba 103

Could anyone tell me. Is the Alba 103 multi region or not? Also, what is meant by the term "Hack"? Is this player any good, or is it lousy quality? and is NTSC a region type or does that just relate to the television.
