Getting the best out of my home cinema, any advice? Sharp 32" Widescreen, Alba 103 DVD

Got a problem. Im not quite sure how to utilise the best from my TV and DVD as far as sound goes. The TV sounds pretty tinny and the surround speakers distorts on some bassier DVD`s and TV programs. I have no idea on what the Hz numbers means on the graphic equaliser personal sound preference and im sure its ruining my surround speakers. Any ideas? I do have a quite good HI-FI, should i run it through there? If so, do i put the phono leads into the TV or DVD player?

The TV i bought is way to complex for an amateur and im sure that im gogint o ruin the set. I have read through the manual but cant find anything that explains manual set-up.

Is there anyone out there that knows about this TV?

The setup i use is this 28 inch widescreen Goodmans and a aiwa prologic midi and a REC dvd.

The connections are the tv gets the video signal [ use the s-video if your tv has the socket ]some people seem to have problems with the RGB signal][i use the standard video output]. and the hifi gets the audio left and right signal [if your hifi can input the 5.1 sound better still]
Also some dvd players have a picture sharpness setting try the settings to find the best.[mine uses middle setting]
And some have a graphic audio setting try the settings if your machine has them.[none on mine]Dont forget to setup your sound processor if you have one.[ps if listening at night use the sound compressor if available on your dvd ,you can hear the people without the people next door hearing world war 3 at 2am.

ok
