RE: Betty Blue

Personally, Betty Blue is one of my favourite films, the acting through out is superb, as is the destruction of the relationship in which ironically the roles are reversed, usually it is the man destroying things and the woman trying to hang on. It also contains probably, for me, the most moving scene ever in the `piano` scene...pure beauty without anywords.

I don`t have the new dvd of it I have an import version, but after years of watching an old second copy vhs version the colours and direction are beautiful.

Yes, this film isn`t for everyone, but to dismiss it as a foreign arty film is wrong, it`s like saying that (for example) Star Wars is a babys film..it`s an easy critic and a very inaccurate one.
Just because a film is in a different language its get the tag `foriegn film` I dont recall Hollywood films being classed as foreign which they are to me.

European films do tend to be more dialogue based than your average hollywood movie, the Three Colours trilogy being a good example, which is a good thing. It`s probably why Hollywood dips it toes into europe and `steals` the odd film for rehash. Im glad they haven`t touched Betty Blue.

Terminator 3 (or `Carry on Terminator` as it should be known) was it meant to be a comedy?

The last 2 matrix films. In fact I`d say that Matrix Reloaded is the worst film of all time, awful dialogue and cod-philosophy. `you are here because you think you are here` all that type of rubbish.

Point Break

Phantom Menace (though I think Attack of the Clones is better than Return of the Jedi...yes..honestly..and Im not a mental case)

REM were a massive influence in the early - mid 80`s, influencing bands like The Pixes etc.. without whom there would be no Nirvana. They were influential not only in their music but thier attitude to the way things are done, i.e videos, their early videos are masterpieces of independant film making.

As for Oasis, I fail to see what Influence they have really had, seeing that they have only been `massive` in the uk and parts of Europe, They didnt create the `Brit-pop` scene but were part of it, (probably one of the most nauseating music trends ever, not an original thought in any of their heads) Ocean colour scene anyone !!!!

RE: Anamorphic Aspect Ratio Con

I`ve noticed a little irritating thing with 16:9 ratio, on my tv, which is a JVC 32" widescreen, at least half an inch of the picture at the bottom is missing whist in 16:9 (full screen) playing a dvd that is in 16:9, but when I change my DVD player to play it in the 4:3 letter box mode (which is not the ratio the dvd is in, the missing bottom of the picture is there. Surley if a film is in 16:9 wich is full frame the bottom half inch of the picture should be there??


This also applies to widescreen tv programs, say `who wants to be a millionare`, a small percentage of the question box on the screen is missing, but when in 4:3 mode it is there (and `millionare` is brodcast in widescreen in the UK)

Any ideas?????/

Yes Graham Norton is becoming very tedious lately, especially in the way he always explains every gag. But the most disturbing thing on Comic Relief was the death of `Alternative` comedy itself. Im talkling about Reeves and Mortimer dying on their arses, as a long time fan this was uncomforatble watching. They knew they were dying, the look of panic in their eyes and gags falling flat, even to the extent as Vic forgetting what gag was next and Bob having to shout `VIC..UNDIES` to get him into the lame pulling up very long underwear gag..hmmmmm last night they were just to middle aged men doing very very unfunny `Alt` comedy gags, it would be like Ben Elton coming on and doing a Thatcher routine..dated. Sorry Vic and Bob, as much as I respect you, (Big Night Out is still comedy genius today) I think your days as `kings of comedy` are long over.
