Are you sure it plays region 1 in colour on a NONE ntsc tv?? p.s. this also plays all those things and has the connections u mention it just looks nicer :-)

EH? well why r so many people having so many problems on so many more expensive dvd players? and does this not make this machine buy of the year? i think they r £79 now

ITS TRUE! i have a 10 yr old + jvc tv definately not ntsc (tried videos etc.the picture -black & white rolls ok). Igot a region 1 dvd from canada put it in my ps2( with action replay converter to reg 1 ) just to see .....Nothing as expected !
THEN!!! I TRIED IT IN MY MEDION 4358 -( from toys r us) IT PLAYED PERFECTLY - IN FULL COLOUR ! ON MY OLD TV. ???? unbelievable. it only cost £89 what is going on ? it is connected obviously by rgb scart. but so was the ps2 . Is this a wonder machine or what ? anyone tell me why i can play region 1 and 2 through my non ntsc tv in perfect colour with no problem at all cos i am still amazed?
PHILIPS 890 MAJOR FAULTS!!!!
i have had 2 of these - 1st from rgb - this one switched off ALL POWER 4 TIMES! i contacted philips "its a fault, it shouldn`t do that" says the guy on the phone(surprise) It goes back. I get another from empire (cheaper see) this one works ( except for recording very dodgy colours a couple of times) for 1 week THEN all power lost AGAIN !!!! I believe these machines have major problems. be very very carefull! needless to say i am waiting to see what happens in the dvd rec. world for a while........
