RE: printer cartridges/refill kits from box-shift

Thanks Clayts, for your info.
Have looked at Choice site and their prices seem a tad more expensive for the item I bought, i.e. black & colour `starter` re-fill kit @ £14.99 against £12.90, both incl.vat & del`y and both companies offering same-day-despatch.
yer pays yer money, yer makes yer choice..

RE: A thought for your next speeding ticket

Good tale Deano, but surely your posting should have been in"Joke of the day"

RE: printer cartridges/refill kits from box-shift

True to their word, they must have despatched it on the 12th because it arrived this morning, but even so they are flannelling -- they marked the paperwork "re-send".

But at least the cartridge re-fill kits (black and CMY) seem to have worked O.K.......

RE: Different BBC1 channels on Sky. Is it possible??

Thanks Ste for your reply.
At the expense of repeating myself, I can`t get my head round the fact that we get all the regional BBC2 progs offered but not BBC1 options???
If it can be done for one, then why not the other??
It can`t be for technical reasons. Can it??
Would Auntie`s technical dept answer, I wonder?

printer cartridges/refill kits from box-shift

Anyone had experience of ordering -- and getting delivery!! -- of printer cartridge refill kits from box-shift.co.uk.
I ordered a straight forward refill kit on 28th Oct.(their site said `same day despatch with delivery 2/3 days later); they quickly acknowledged my order.
Sent email chasers on 6th and 9th Nov. No response to either.
Used the good old landline today... "sorry sir we`ve been extremely busy,, etc., etc.,.. blah-blah...
If they`re any good then they should expect to be busy.
They have promised to get it off today....Did their blurb mean 2/3 weeks delivery?
Watch this space..

Different BBC1 channels on Sky. Is it possible??

I`ve read the postings on how to get different regions (i.e. out of your own area) of ITV, and it works..,.. thank you all contributors.
I`m in Cardiff and my sky-box card will only give me BBC1 Wales.
Is there any way, similar to the ITV `dodge`, that I can receive out-of-region BBC1??
I don`t understand why I can get out-of-region BBC2 channels but not BBC1.
Is there a good reason??

RE: URGENT -- SECURITY DANGER --- `MAX ALERT. `

Thank you guys & gals for your comments on this matter.
It was on my screen both as a MS pop-up and a banner heading this site and its forums???
What I don`t understand about this latter point, is that if the ad. is, shall we say, less than reliable (to be generous), how did it get on what appears to me to be `official`??

URGENT -- SECURITY DANGER --- `MAX ALERT. `

A post here for the "web police" or anyone else who can advise.

I`ve just replied to a thread on credit cards..

Upon submiting I got an immediate window advising me that `.. my computer is currently broadcasting an IP address and anyone can begin `attacking` my computer unless I download something called Max Alert.

Is this kosher and if so do I go ahead ??

Help, help....

RE: A QUESTION ABOUT BALANCE TRANFERS FOR CREDIT CARDS?????????

Balance transfers between credit cards..

I`ve just taken out a new card (RBS Advanta) 0% until 0106023 for all purchases, balance transfers and cheques (yes, some of the card companies issue cheques which can be used like `normal` cheques).
After 1st June their regular interest rate kicks in but one does get the fairly usual 25 days from date of statement for zero-interest ---EXCEPT FOR BALANCE TRANSFERS.
These carry interest from the date of the transaction..... but it might be worth you making an enquiry with your own card company(s).

RE: Samsung 709 wont play The Matrix!!!

Have recently bought (after some deliberation....see my thread of a couple of weeks ago) a Samsung 225 from Safeway -- £89.99, and have not had any problems playing `The Matrix` which I bought from safeway at the same time as buying the player.
I`m as pleased with this machine as I am able to say because I only know that it seems to work as it should --at least it plays the matrix and an old Everly Bros. CD...

Hope this might help in your buying decision.
Gerry

RE: "Narita" DVD Player

Thanks, Small-Mountain.
Have noted your comments, I`m not sure I`ll push the boat though.

Thanks again,
Gerry.

"Narita" DVD Player

Safeway have on this week`s flyer, a "NARITA" player (Full LCD display; MP3 & CD-R; 5 language; multi-function remote; Dolby digital... plus 5 double-film discs, @ £99.99
Haven`t been in the store to see it yet.
Anyone know any about this machine??

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Hi. andy_is

If you`ve been considering the S225, can i assume that you are aware that it has both normal options on digi audio out;- co-ax and Optical.

I`m hoping to try wiring up my system incorporating the S225, tomorrow so I`l you posted -- not that I`ve had previous experience of playing DVD discs....

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Hi again Micoman.

Thanks for your opinion on digi outputs.

Re. the samsung S225; thr model spec is available on their web site:_
samsungelectronics,co.uk

I`ve got the S225 manual here at the moment; any info or discussion try
my email

BROADBAND!!!

I know this is primarily a dvd site but I`ve been so p---ed-off this afetrnoon trying to get a connection (to this site) that i am now seriously considering spending some my limited income going Broadband.
i`m lucky that I can have most of the options available where I live.

What is the cheapest available at the moment (should I wait longer as most providers demand a 12 month contract)??

I`ve seen Tiscali 256kbps at £19.99pm (plus £50.00 connection fee)
Is this the best deal around??

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Hi, Micoman.

I`ve not yet had the time (I`m still trying to digest the Sammy manual) to get started on wiring, etc. besides I would prefer to do when my missus is out of the way and I can have the place to my self!!

As for VCD, the manual says it can play, so i can only believe that (or can I).

I have one piece of indecision before I do Start spreading wires around:-
I intend to wire the player into a Panny 32PG50 (for all typs of discs, at least at this stage).
The manual states to connect up via the scart to a tv and to use the digital sockets (which is better, coaxial or optical?) for connection to an audio unit(with dts decoder, which my Panny has) but doesn`t say it is necessary to use the Digi sockets as well as the scart when connecting to a tv with dts decode..

Sorry to appear such a dummy but I really am a beginner at this sort of thing.

Can you please point n the right direction??

RE: £7.99 at Safeways

Hi. Tonez, Why a waste of eight quid??

Is the quality of the five discs on offer, pretty poor; or the fact that they are only offering five not-so-desirable discs.

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

More indecision...

Wen to safeway this evening, having made up my mind (thank you all posters for your comments/advice) to buy their last Samsung S225 at £89.99.
Much to my surprise they had one Reoc A3 (at same 89.99) on the shelf so I was back in doubtsville.
The guy on the `entertainments` counter reminded me of their "if you don`t like it bring it back for a full refund within 28days (although their leaflet states 14 days).
So having space on my plastic friend --- i came home with both...

Now the point of all this waffle, is Which one shall I keep?

All contributions/advice/experience, etc., gratefully received.

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

thanks, john-306

samsung tell me that the 224 & the 225 have the smae spec. but different cases.... doesn`t make sense to me, but who am I...

For the record, the spec. is ;--
dvd; dvd-r; cd; cd-r; cd-rw & mp3 playback; dual mode 2 laser pick-up;
dolby pro logic surround, dd5.1, dts & mpeg audio out; 2 channel audio out(l/r); optical & coaxial digital out; 1 scart out; 1 S-video out;
1 composite video out; x128 super scan; 1/8, 1/4 &1/2 smooth slow scan/playback; screen saver (what on a dvd player??); chapter digest;
x2 & x4 zoom; instant replay (10 secs); multi-session cd playback...

Is anything missing for £89.99??

p.s techtronics m/r conversion quotes..."internal VCR mode" and "can play RCE titles without workround tricks" what do they mean and will a diy m/r hack do the same??

RE: Sky Digital plus - worth the swap?

I`ve just been clocking andyrh68`s thread on Sky Digital.....

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Hi. fellers.

I.ve done two things today.

1)Looked in at my local safeway, with a couple of interesting comments:-
Yes, it is the S225 the are offering AND the price is now £89.99
They also have a couple of other players on sale -- Aiwa XDDV480KS at £109.00 and a Alba DVD114 at £100.00 ---- any reports/comments/warnings off, etc??
P.S. I`m looking at Safeway because, all things being equal, it makes sense to buy there because they have a good offer on petrol/diesel -- up to 12p 0ff per litre if you spend certain amounts (incl electrical) in their store [ £150 for 12p] and i can buy their max. 100litre (with the aid of a couple of 25 litre containers).

2) I.ve looked at Samsungs and tectronics web sites. and i can`t see much difference in the specs. of the S224 at £99 (reg.2)or £125 for M/R at Techtroncs and the s225 at £89.99???

Sorry to ramble but has anyone any constructive comments

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Thanks, john-306.

I`m pretty sure it was a 225 in my local Safeway, but I`ll slip tomorrow (sorry, I mean later today) and double check.

Meanwhile I`ll have a squint at samsun`s website!

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Thanks MBA for your response.
I will be putting my DVD output via a Panny TX-32PG50.
Would this cause a similar problem?

RE: Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Thanks Clayts, you seem to know very much of what you talk about.
But not to let go of the bone just yet, do you anything about the Samsung S225?

Thanks also to Dantheman for your contribution to my quandry.

Both you guys have given me the benefit of your experience, but the bottom line question is the Tosh worth the extra dosh??

Tosh220/Dansai1010/cyberhome505/samsungs225

Reading/devouring the great (but very competitive) comments on moderately priced DVD players, I`m in a heck of a quandry.

Should I buy the cheapest of this bunch?
Or should I spend £135 at Richer and buy the Tosh e220?
Another option for the miser in me, is to buy the samsung £225 at £129 (not £119) as I reported last night (still not received any threads on this model --- is it such a bummer??)

Samsung S225! Info. please.

Have seen this DVD player at my local Safeway store.
The spec seems good --- plays most formats, Dolby, dts output, one scart, svhs, optical connections, etc., at rear.
Price is £119

Any users out there who might give me (not yet a DVDplayer owner!!) a few pointers?
I don`t think it`s m/r. Can it be region hacked and macrovision free??

Basically, is it worth buying or should I be looking elsewhere with this limited budget?

Thanks in anticipation, GerryA.

P.S. Have looked in the likely forums and done the requested searches before asking.
