Another, recommend me a DVD player!

Hey,
I am looking for a second DVD player as my current one is non-multi region, no vcd or cd-r/rw e.c.t.
What I am looking for is a DVD player for under £100 which is multi region, plays VCD and CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW(not essential) and also not essential but would be very helpful is an NTSC to PAL 50 converter, and at a very big stretch either a 5.1 or DTS decoder! : )
Think thats about it, make doesn`t really matter.

Cheers,

Steve

How do I use Solo card on dvdcrave?

I only seem to be able to use a visa or a mastercard to pay for dvd`s even though they recently announced that they would accept Solo as a valid payment form. I have emailed them a couple of times last week about it but recieved no reply :(
I really want to buy Boogie Nights from there for my brother who`s birthday is very soon as it says it is R2+4 and is a far superior disc to the R2.
Please can anyone help me???

Thanks,

Steve

Which is better? Logic 3 soundstation3 or PS2 Spectra soundstation?

Both have 2 speakers and a subwoofer, both around about the same price. Spectra speakers: http://www.dixons.co.uk/store/martprd.dll/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0928306171.1020598060@@@@&BV_EngineID=dadcdkheedgdbedcfgmcfcki.0&page=Product&sku=195085

Logic 3 speakers:
http://www.dixons.co.uk/store/martprd.dll/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0928306171.1020598060@@@@&BV_EngineID=dadcdkheedgdbedcfgmcfcki.0&page=Product&sku=556554

I want to use them for my Playstation (soon to be a PS2) AND my Toshiba sd110 dvd player, the Logic speakers say they are for gc,xbox,ps and ps2 but in a gamecube mag it said it connects to anything with scart or stereo outputs (will this work on my dvd player then?) But the only thing ive read about the spectra set is that it connects to ps2, pc or playstation. can i connect these to my dvd player?

Couple of other things, what are satalite speakers? do the speakers connect to my tv or do they connect direct to the dvd player/ps2?

Thanks,
Steve

RE: HMV new sale....

Most of it is not a bargain, but there are a few good ones: you could get
Almost Famous 2 disc special edition+ Cape Fear box set for £25
Withnail and I and Evil Dead(not the book) for £15 thats the cost of each of these on play (evil dead 2 is the same price as on Play aswell)
T2

Thats about it though, Almost Famous and Cape fear as a bogof seems to be the onlly big money saver.

Steve

EDIT: Scrap that! just been looking at Play`s new deals and Withnail and I and Evil Dead are £7.99 each!! and Evil dead 2 is now £8.99. So Almost Famous, Cape Fear, and T2 are the only worthwhile options.

RE: How slow are Splash DVD?

Still no DVD today, time to get my money back, but whats this..... they don`t reply to my e-mail ! usually they reply pretty quickly but this time they didn`t and still havn`t, wonder why?

RE: How slow are Splash DVD?

They are very very POOR, I ordered from them for the first time (a dvd) on Friday 5th April and still havent recieved it!!!! It said it would take 3 days to ship, it took 13 days for them to finally ship it. Then got an e-mail saying it has been despatched and it will take 3-5 working days to arrive, well.... 6 working days later and I am STILL WAITING for my DVD, if it doesn`t arrive tomorrow then i`m asking for my money back!

Foreign film recomendations wanted

The last 3 films I have seen have all been foreign language films and I really enjoyed all of them. They were Battle Royale, Amores Perros and Amelie. Amores Perros was superb, one of the best films I have seen. What other foreign films have people seen that they can recommend???

RE: Does either X-Box or PS2 output NTSC to Pal 50?

Thanks, thing is that my T.V is only 50Hz so I need a console that converts NTSC to Pal 50, or I could get a nice new T.V I suppose.....

Does either X-Box or PS2 output NTSC to Pal 50?

DVD`s i`m talking about, i know i would need a fully wired scart lead and a region x disc but do they convert ntsc to pal 50 or pal 60?

Thanks
Steve

RE: Is this actually possible?

Thats what i`m thinking and usually i ignore anything like this, but this stuff is all that he sells and he has a rating of 1392, so there must be something good about this?

Is this actually possible?

Just looking around on eBay and I found this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1529920022
I`ve seen lots of auctions like this before and never really taken notice but if it is possible to do this it would be very cool.
So I was wondering if anyone has ever done what they say and converted their T.V into a "100 inch projection system" or something similar. I really don`t see how it is possible, so does anyone know how it all works/doesn`t work at all?

Unsure weather to buy Usual Suspects or not

Hey all,
I don`t know weather to buy the Usual Suspects on R2 when it comes out, i haven`t seen the film yet but have been told by a couple of friends that it is modern day classic e.t.c. and I wanted to see what other people think. What makes it so good? Also, if anyone has the R1 version could you tell me what the speacial features are like?

Thanks,

Steve

RE: NOT DVD BUT A PRICE ERROR WORTH LOOKING AT ?

It says Tony Hwks 2 is 1p, more than likely this is an error so if you order it at 1p and they notice its the wrong price can they charge you the proper price: £20 or whatever or do they have to sell it to you for 1p?

Steve

RE: The Usual Suspects, SE Region 1 or 2?

R2 has an exclusive 6 minute featurette and is on 2 discs rather than the 1 disc R1 version. In my opinion the R2 has better looking packaging (packaging and featurette are the only differences between R1 and R2) and the R2 is only £14.99 on splshdvd.com (was £16.99 a few days ago but i think they saw Play`s price and wanted to beat it!)

Hope this helps

Steve

RE: Whats the difference between a reciever and an amplifier, do I need both?

Oh ok, so I don`t need a reciever if I will only use the set up for my dvd player?

Thanks,

Steve

Whats the difference between a reciever and an amplifier, do I need both?

Ok, reciever recieves sound and amplifier amplifies sound, i think i`m right so far but I thought you only needed an amplifier in your home cinema set up, do i need both???I have a Toshiba SD110 which doesn`t have any on board decoders.

Newbie to home cinema (as you can tell)!

Steve

Whats the cheapest amp with inbuilt DTS and 5.1 decoders???

Title says it all really, just a beginner in the home cinema area so not lookin for like the amazing £300+ amp`s.

Thanks,

Steve

Packard bell speakers and subwoofer for PC only £29.99!!

Packard Bell speaker set: 2 flat panel speakers and a subwoofer FOR PC`s £29.99 on the PC World website at the moment, Half Price, down from £59.99. Dunno how good they are though.

Steve

RE: Are these the PC World/Packard Bell 5.1 speakers everyone is talking about???

Thanks for the info, its just that someone said they were £59.99 and these were £59.99 aswell. By the way, if you still want speakers for your PC then the 3 piece PC speaker set i was talking about is half price at the moment: £29.99 on their website at the moment!!!
Steve

Are these the PC World/Packard Bell 5.1 speakers everyone is talking about???

I`ve read good reviews about some PC world/Packard bell 5.1 speakers on this website and I was just wondering if this was them: ???

http--www.pcworld.co.uk-images-280049_01_large.jpg

It says they are PC speakers so is it possible to connect them to a dvd player??? also, how can they be a 5.1 set when there is only 2 speakers and a subwoofer???
These were the only Packard bell speakers I found on the PC world website so I assume these are the ones I have read good reviews about,

Does anyone know??
Thanks,

Steve

RE: Starship troopers S.E, R2/4 or just R4???

Thanks everyone, I will order the Aussie version then.

RE: Where to buy Wrestling DVDs....

I know this is an old thread but I just bought ECW Anarchy Rulz on DVD for £10.99 from splashdvd.com, which i think is pretty darn good, all the PPV`s and special events (e.g.house party 99, guilty as charged 2001 e.t.c) are £10.99 and the Hard Hits (best of) series selling for £7.99. Play are selling the main ppv`s etc for £11.99 so you save an extra £1 if you buy from splashdvd.
WWF dvd`s are nearly all between £11-£15 apart from the 2 disc Wrestlemania`s which are a bit more expensive. Dunno about Japenese ones.

Hope this helps someone,

Steve

RE: first 2 view cheep vcd`s in the uk

what are first 2 view like?? are they a good site?? because i`m thinking about ordering the mac master off of them, will my card details be safe??

Steve

RE: Starship troopers S.E, R2/4 or just R4???

Yeah there is, but i`m pretty sure its just R1 and I only have a R2 player.

RE: Starship troopers S.E, R2/4 or just R4???

Been considering which one to buy and I prefer the Australian cover(with the silver border) and I would also like to order off of DVDcrave as I have never ordered from them before but have been told they are very good.
Therefore, I still need to know if the special edition(with the silver border) is Region 2+4 or just Region 4, does anyone know???

Many Thanks,

Steve

RE: 2 DVD For £4.99 per week + Free DVD Player!

http://www.movietrak.com and http://www.dvdoptions.com are also U.K rental sites, you pay per DVD, not per month. DVD options is the cheapest. I havent tried movietrak yet but I am expecting my first DVD rental (Battle Royale) from DVDoptions on Friday. I have been told that they are both very good companies.

Hope this helps,

Steve

RE: Starship troopers S.E, R2/4 or just R4???

Thanks, yeah i`m pretty sure they are the same actually, for some reason I thought the R2 had no extras. I`ll probably get the R2 then.

Thanks again,

Steve
