Thanks Richard. Useful to know which version to buy!

Cheers.

Brilliant. Thanks Neon!

Which version?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there is a decent site that gives comparisons between different region versions of the same film? I believe the gap is narrowing between region 1 and 2 disks these days, but it would be nice to know which way to lean before purchasing.

Thanks.

RE: Region 0 question.

Thought it might be something like that. Thanks.

Region 0 question.

Hi all,

Newbie question here. I know Region 1 is generally the prefered, but how about Region 0 DVDs? I`m seeing a huge number of films not yet cinema released in this country available on R0 DVDs. Are they any good? Should I be cautious of them or what?

Thanks alot.

RE: Panasonic Or Phillips??????

Hi,

I must admit I don`t know about the 32PW6515 specifically, but I`ve had a Philips 28" widescreen for about 3 years now and I simply can`t knock it in any way. More versatile screen modes and more reliable than a Sony, and only Sony is close in picture quality at a similar price.

Just my opinion of course, but hope it helps.

RE: S-Video pictures appear in B&W...HELP!

Hi Rob,

I have a Philips widescreen (forget the model number), and I found certain sources to the S-Vid socket (Playstation2 for example) came up in B&W. However, I found that pressing the input select several times toggled through SCART, AUX, and a third input called `C/W` or something like that and where the picture was B&W on the Aux `channel`, it was colour in this mystery third channel.

I know this is a bit vague, but hopefully it might give you something to go on.

Cheers,
Tris.

RE: Good Budget DVD players

Hi John,

Why do you say stay away from Scan`s players? All the reviews I`ve seen and people I`ve spoken to have been very much impressed with the SC-2000s picture and sound quality. As far as I`m aware the only problems anyone has encountered are born of dealing with Scan`s customer service.
I am thinking of buying an SC-2000 quite soon on the strength of all this evidence, so if you have something to say about them I`d be interested to hear it!

Thanks.

RE: samsung dvd/combi player any good?

Hi guys,

Saw a review in a mag at the weekend (can`t remember which one - sorry) but they didn`t rate it. I think 3/10 was about the going rate. I was just scanning the review section in WHSmiths so I didn`t read the article I`m afraid. Be warned....

RE: What`s better - SCART or S-Vid?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Now I just need to get the player and try it out!

Thanks again.

RE: What`s better - SCART or S-Vid?

Thanks, that`s interesting stuff. My tv (a Philips) has a couple of Scarts and an S-Vid input as well as the usual coax aerial socket, I guess one of the scarts could be RGB, I don`t know.

Thanks John.

What`s better - SCART or S-Vid?

Another stupid question from the people that brought you beeeer milkshakes *ding*.

RE: Dolby sound?

Brilliant! Thanks Neon.
You don`t happen to have an opinion on a good £150-ish player do you?

Dolby sound?

I have a Philips tv with Dolby Prologic (apparently). Does this mean that it can decode prologic sound from a DVD player that does NOT sport prologic (eg. SC-2000), or does the player need to have a prologic decoder too?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I`m new to this.

RE: Which one?

I appreciate the info Nilesh.
As for the player, I`m probably looking to spend around 150-200 quid (preferably closer to 150 than 200!), thus my thoughts about the CH-528 and the SC-2000. I see lots of good reviews about the SC-2000, but does anyone have any experience of either of these?

On a different note, what`s generally better, S-Vid or RGB/SCART?

RE: Which one?

Thanks again Richard, I really appreciate your input.

RE: Which one?

Thanks Richard, is there any significant difference between the C/H 512 and 528 models?

RE: Which one?

Thanks,

I`ll give the 200E a look. I have to admit I have purchased pc components from Scan many times in the past and never had the faintest whiff of trouble, maybe I`ve been lucky.

Which one?

Hi all, total newbie here wanting some advice.

Want a cheapish player to get me started. Looked at some reviews and would like to know whether the SC-2000 or the Cyberhome 528 gets the biggest thumbs up from you guys.

It`ll be teamed up with a Philips Pro-logic Widescreen TV, so I`ve got SCART and S-Vid inputs, don`t know about this RGB thing though.
Also can both these players play RCE disks and does it really matter?

Also, on virtually every DVD player I`ve seen from the cheapest to the most expensive I`ve noticed artifacts in big blocks of colour (such as the profusion of black in The Matrix) - is it inevitable or should players be able to get around this these days?

Thanks all.
