RE: Stephen King`s `IT`

Hmmmm.....have this on VHS and didn`t think it was that bad, although definitely another below par attempt at filming a Stephen King book. Come to think of it, despite 2 or 3 attempts never could finish that book so perhaps it was a bit crap. Anyway the The Stand was very good, anyone seen this on DVD?

RE: Buffy fans ...

Very good - so much more interesting than the new series!

RE: Every issue of Empire ever....

If all fails hang on til November 5th...................?

RE: What`s the sweatiest film ever made?

12 Angry Men - the 1957 jury room classic with Henry Fonda, recently remade as a TV movie with Jack Lemmon (?) I think.

RE: Night of The Living Dead for £1.50

Well spotted that man! Bagged that baby and should replace my VHS version very nicely indeed. On that subject anyone want to buy Night of the Living Dead VHS for about, say £1.50? Should be able to download the DVD cover from somewhere although ww.cdcovers.cc don`t seem to have it. Any other suggestions?

RE: Whats the worst DVD you have bought and why did you buy it?

Agreed, The Cube is an excellent movie and very underrated. Started watching it expecting it to be total crap and it had me hooked for the full 90 minutes. Can`t wait for the follow up. Apparently it`s set in a 4-D cube which sounds good, but it`s being released staright to video which isn`t! Anyway, Stiggy how much do you want for that coaster?

RE: The Beatles Movies On DVD - When?

Thrifty - just noticed The Magical Mystery Tour at EzyDVD for $AU14.95. Nice price although there doesn`t seem to be much on it. Would be good to see the Anthology series on DVD though.

RE: vcds what are they where can you get them .

Wasp - my point exactly and from what I saw I don`t think I`ll bother with Harry Potter either. Glad I didn`t fork out to watch this nonsense at the local Showcase, which leaves me more dosh to spend on pukka DVDs!

RE: vcds what are they where can you get them .

Strictly in the interest of research I have recently seen Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings on VCD. Quality was ok and quite watchable. Cheaper than going to the cinema and helps me make my mind up whether I am going to spend my hard earned pennies on the original DVD when released. I originally saw the Matrix on pirate VHS and liked it so much I bought the original DVD and it`s fantastic, so everyone`s a winner! Pirate copies, whilst strictly illegal and not to be condoned, can give a film some free publicity and if it`s any good encourages people to go and buy the original.

RE: So it seems DVD importing is illegal

Not sure about all of the above but what I am sure about is on the back of my latest DVDs received from EzyDVD is says "Not for sale or hire outside Australia" (or words to that effect). So where exactly does that leave us on this importing issue?

RE: <<<Whats your favorite website>>>>

Darkhorizons.com is pretty good for for movie/TV news & gossip and also some good DVD reviews.

RE: So you`re on this desert island.....

Jim Cameron (including T3 but less Titanic), if he can`t make it maybe Ridley Scott.

RE: Buffy on Sky One last night

I thought the episode was pretty good and had no problems with picture (NTL). As for "Killing off the main character at the end of one season, and bringing her back to life at the begining of the next isn`t a cliffhanger. It`s just taking the p**s out of the audience." - anyone who follows Buffy knew there was never any plans for SMG to leave the series and this was just part of the continuing storyline. The so called "cliffhanger" was not if Buffy was going to come back to life, but the effect her death would have on the rest on the gang, how they would bring her back to life and the consequences thereof. I probably have seen better episodes but this was still pretty good and sets the tone for the rest of the series. I went a bit off Angel in the last series and hope there`s some improvement in that when it starts back next week.

RE: Forthcoming post-Christmas bargains

I`ve still got a £20 HMV gift voucher burning a hole in my pocket left over from my birthday in May! Maybe come Boxing Day I might find something decent to spend it on. Here`s hoping!

RE: TRUTH ABOUT SEPT 11 2001

Moderators - for gods sake please remove this thread - it`s all a load of b*ll*cks, an insult to our intelligence and an incitement to racial hatred. Thanks, Chris D.

RE: Ghostbusters 1 & 2 at £7.99 each and gladiator at £9.99

Roger, funny you should mention it but I tried to log on to their site at lunchtime with no luck. I did however get an email on the 10th saying my Matrix DVD (£7.99 - great bargain if I get it!) had just been despatched. Lets see what Postie has got for me tomorrow. On the subject of deducting payments before despatching this is not totally unusual, DVDImport do it as well, although not Ezy. The reason uk.playstation do it, as was explained to me when I phoned my order thru (could not register online) was that the card details are kept on a different site for security purposes? Does this make sense?

RE: new cinema release dvds and vcds

Sorry DanB I think you`re kidding yourself if you think most people want to defeat macrovision because it causes them some kind of problem....etc etc. Reading the postings on this forum and on others it appears the main reason people want to defeat macrovision is so they can record their DVDs to VHS, for whatever reason, although granted it does cause some people problems when they wish to route their DVD thru the VCR etc if they don`t have TV scart socket.

Whilst I do not wish to condone or encourage PIRACY in any way, the point of my posting was that we need to be careful before getting on our high horses about PIRACY because, as Craig Tubby points out, if copying our CDs or vinyl`s to tapes is illegal, as DVD to VHS probably is as well, then many of us may already be guilty of a little PIRACY.

RE: new cinema release dvds and vcds

Clayts - this site offers advice and encouragement on defeating macrovision, however isn`t the idea of defeating macrovision so you can copy your dvds onto vhs, and if so isn`t this piracy? Hope this is not too controversial! ;-)

RE: Vertical lines on tv, any ideas?

I think there may be something going one here. For the last few weeks I`ve noticed shadow and ghost images and lines when watching TV thru my ntl digibox. I`ve even changed TV`s from an older Hitachi to a new JVC in the meantime and it`s still occuring. I suspected it was either the ntl reception or interference on the scart cable. I can`t believe everyone`s scart cables are now suddenly playing up so is there something dodgy going on with ntl`s digital signals?

RE: CyberHome problem - can you help?

Could be that as you`re going thru your VCR the macrovision is kicking in which disrupts the recording of most DVD`s (see previous threads on this subject). Try connecting the scart from your DVD player direct into your TV and all should be ok. Re the 3 discs played perfectly, could be these discs were not macrovision protected?

RE: Help?? Pulp Fiction? Usual Suspects? Fargo? Mean Streets? Raising Arizona?

Pulp Fiction, you`re right apparently R4 is the best, see www.michaeldvd.com.au for comparisons. Just ordered (and received) Pulp Fiction "Special Collection`s Edition" from DVD Crave for $34.55 Canadian incl. P&P (£12ish). Hope this helps.

RE: Looking for inexpensive multiregion DVD player

I`m just about to order the JVC 28WFT1EK widescreen TV from Dixons online for £499.99 plus £9.99 Del. Seems like a pretty good bargain to me if your budget is around £500. The stand looks nice too. Check it out - see what you think.

RE: Aldi 8-in-1

Aldi`s are always in the middle of nowhere which is probably why they`re building a new one in nearby Ilkeston. This should enable me to pick up some more of those incredible bargain such as voice activated light bulbs and crappy wooden toy boxes. Back onto the 8-in-1 remote, I actually forgot about the ironic no batt`s warning and picked some up the following day whilst checking out the ridiculus DVD prices in Woolies. The problem now is instead of 7 remotes I`ve now got 8, but if I could get some device that would combine or replace them all...........I wonder?

RE: Aldi 8-in-1

I agree, good piece of kit for under a tenner. Well, £8.98 actually as Woolies were doing 4 x AAA batteries half price at 99p :-)

RE: Deliveries stolen at post office

My previous comment was obviously a joke, I hate Star Wars, and apologies for the double entry, my hands are still shaking after last night`s celebrating. But seriously my brother in law does work at the Royal Mail, and after some money had been stolen from a Birthday card my poor old Nan had sent, he confirmed there are currently some very dodgy people working there, Croatian refugees, Afgans all sorts, and advised never send any money in cards..... Make of that what you will.

RE: Deliveries stolen at post office

My brother in law works down the local sorting office, I think I`ll ask him to keep a look out for the new Star Wars Ep.1 DVD ;-)

RE: Changing your details at DVDimport

Ordered Rugrats in Paris (for the kids of course) for the bargain price of 12.99 USD incl. P&P. Arrived last Wednesday, 6 days later, and all looks fine. Will use them again providing all stacks out on the next credit card bill.

RE: Aldi 8-in-1

Bought one of these on Friday, looks ok(ish) and works very well with my Hitachi TV & VCR, and ok with my ntl digital cable box (Pace). No more hunt the remote controls! No luck with my Cyberhome DVD (no surprise there) but surprisingly only limited success with my Sony CD mini system. Also, does not come with batteries so either hunt out some of those old triple A`s or take a trip down to Woolies.
