Game of Thrones (season 2)

Has anyone watched the opening episode yet?

I`m trying to decide whether I wait until the season is over before watching them all (which I managed to do with season one and enjoyed it so much more).

That`s my plan Miles.  I`ve read all the books so it gets frustrating at times when the episodes finish and you know what is/should be coming next.

Has anyone else read the books off the back of season 1?  I`ve noticed loads of people on the tube with paperbacks reading them; probably more if you include the masses of Kindle readers!

I started to read the first book, but got side tracked and never picked it up again.
Do you think it`s worth pursuing?

I personally think they are a fantastic read once you get into them, and far superior to the TV series, however I`ve been reading this genre most of my adult life so I could be biased - although of this genre these are the most well written. If you enjoy the TV series then you`ll get so much more from the books as they (obviously) spend much more time developing the characters and plots etc... The way Martin introduces new characters and discards others so quickly makes me think that it will be hard for the TV series to spend much time developing each new character (family) as the show goes on.

I`m about midway through the first book, which I have on audio (fall asleep to it most nights), and the series seems very close but obviously less detailed.

I`ve often preferred to see the series/film first as then I don`t spend most of my time thinking, "that`s changed, that`s different, they`ve missed that out!"

I watched the Eragon movie before I had read the books.  My word, the movie was absolute dross and the books, which I only read as I had nothing else with me on holiday, were fantastic.  If I hadn`t been forced into reading them I would never have picked them up based on that movie!

My sister got me A Clash Of Kings for Christmas, and I had planned to read it before season 2 started, but it looks like the show will have caught up with me by the time I finish it.

Jesus it`s big! If they ever run out of house bricks, they could easily use unwanted copies of ACOK instead...

Episode 1 was awesome :) The new CGI company are working wonders with the limited budget!

HBO made episode 2 available on their GO service in some territories. Rips just started to appear, but I`m waiting for the 1080i next week :)

How are you finding the audio book Rob ? I started it but couldn`t finish it. The guy reading did my head in. He wasn`t consistent with pronunciations and basically sent me to sleep. I bought the paperbacks straight away and have enjoyed them immensely .

Okay, seen the first episode, and it was way too short. :) Can`t wait for next week! Glad I have the first book to keep me company in the intervening days. It`s really nice to see the production values staying very high.

@Strangerer, I`m more than half way through (just past the bit where Tyrion has won his freedom from Catelyn`s sister), don`t have a problem with the way he pronounces most things although there is the odd word that he says which I just don`t get why he is saying it that way. :)

My only real issue is the accent he chose for Tyrion, which is a) completely different from the TV series (can forgive him that as it came before) and b) completely different from the rest of his entire family!

Talking of Tyrion, Peter Dinklage is *still* stealing every scene he`s in.

Oh and Jack Gleeson as Joffrey, is (thankfully) very different IRL!

@ Tyrions accent. Doesn`t the guy give him a Welsh accent in the audio book? I`m sure that changes part way through too.
