Streets Online - they`re POO!

dwaine (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 3rd May 2002, 13:36

I`ve had about enough of Streets Online - they are just a bunch of gits. (I`ll try to keep to using formal terms instead of what I`d like to say, for the rest of my rant....)

I ordered 3 DVDs a couple of weeks ago, and paid for them using my Solo card - it was advertised as an acceptable means of payment. However, Streets Online kept declining the card, suggesting I refer to my card issuer. I then checked with my bank, and they claimed everything was fine, and so I resubmitted my order. All in all, I guess may card was declined a total of 6 times in addition to my order being cancelled twice by `Streets` as a `security measure`.

Finally, I rocketed off an email to them asking why the card was rejected, and suggested that the problem lied with them and not my card. They said that they no longer accept Solo on their website, and will remove the symbol `shortly` - Errr.. hello..!!?? How long does it take for someone to remove a payment method from a website? Hardly rocket science?

I placed the order again - gawd knows why I bothered - over a week ago, and the order is just sat at `processing`... I`ve again sent them emails to cancel the order now, cos quite frankly I`ve had enough, and they just haven`t had the decency to reply.

I know that some might consider that them declining a card is hardly a hanging offence, but the sheer lack of interest, reluctance to update their website, and un-answered emails makes me, and should make you, think twice about their standards of service!

It`s surprising to hear of this sort of problem from them. I`ve used them quite a bit for CD`s and the odd book. The service has always been excellent, with the goods arriving next day or the day after. Hope you get it sorted.

It makes me think about SOLO cards...I`ve noticed at the petrol stations in the town that they`ve had signs up on the pumps for the last few weeks saying they no longer accept SOLO, I wonder if there`s a problem with them?

Mark.

I`ve also ordered CDs and DVDs from Streets Online on maybe a dozen occasions and never had any problems (they arrive in a couple of days, in perfect condition).

Must admit, I was using my Mastercard (rather than a Solo card) though.

Same here. I`ve ordered CDs and games without problems - some even arrived the next day!

After my post above on Friday I ordered a couple of DVDs (they`ve a 2 for £20 offer on). They arrived this morning, not bad considering we had the Bank Holiday in between too.

OK, I accept that perhaps this was just a one off, as it appears as though no-one else has had similar problems!!!

Mind you, I spose that`s the point of forums like these!

Just to add to the above... I posted my great experience with streets here a while ago - basically I had a half day turnaround on a dvd and playstation game from them. Damned impressive. Also, I ordered a cd on friday, was told on saturday that it was out of stock, and could take up to 2 weeks to be back in stock - i was given the option of cancelling the order, but I chose to wait. The cd duly arrived first thing tuesday morning (bear in mind that monday was a bank holiday)! I think that on the whole, streets are pretty good, maybe not the cheapest place, but their service is generally top-notch. I think that perhaps a solo card is not the best thing to use over the net - many `bricks and mortar` shops dont accept them, even though they will accept switch. Maybe solo is being phased out? It is advisable to use a credit card for online purchases, not a debit card, because you tend to have a bit more comeback (ie insurance) if something goes wrong, although I realise that this isn`t practical for some people.
BTW, if you want a credit card for the net have a look at marbles. Their card gets you a 15% discount @ streets, plus you get insurance (up to £500 I believe) on web purchases. (not an advert btw, plus I dont get a referral!).

I recently went to place an order at Streets Online and found I still had `Way of the Gun DVD` hanging around in my Basket from their last sale at only £6.99 (New year sale I think).
Even tho` the current price was much higher, Streets Online were great and sent me the DVD at the old sale price.

I wonder how many other sites would have done that?
