Buying VCDs

I wanted to ask if anyone knew a good british site to purchase VCDs, in uk £`s and not pirate copies. I would buy from abroad aslong as shipping isnt a rediculous price. I found a few sites but they all look pretty dodgie to me.

No idea of places to buy VCD but I would have thought that there were very few titles being released on VCD as the dominant disc format is DVD. I would think the difference in quality between VCD and DVD would be quite considerable considering that VCD uses less ram per minute of film. If you wanted to see the difference between the two go to the WINMX site and download a small VCD file and then compare it to a DVD if you have one.

Okay, to answer the question rather than question the choice of media. To the best of my knowledge, there`s only one Brit retailer, called first2view at http://www.first2view.co.uk/. There`s also an overseas site (sorry, can`t recall where it`s based) called Eureka(http://www.eurekamovies.com/). This specialises in VCDs and has a wide selection of what they assure folks are legit issues of Western movies. Then there`s DDD house, which contains VCDs of a lot of oriental movies (including some Jackie Chans unavailable in the West) and a limited range of western movies (e.g. `The Others` for a fiver). Their address is http://www.dddhouse.com/.

I`ve never tried first2view. I`ve only tried Eureka for one purchase, but it came through okay about a fortnight after ordering (in fairness to Eureka, I chose the slowest mailing method). I`ve used DDD House several times and found them reliable and quick (i.e. about 4 days after ordering). However, as always, caveat emptor.

VCD quality is nowhere near as good as DVD, but it`s no worse than videotape and a damn sight more compact. It`s not my medium of choice, but since some movies are only available on it (like the aforementioned Jackie Chan films) it`s a case of put up or shut up. The remark often given about bootlegs is a bit unfair. Sure, there are dodgy VCDs around, but remember that VCD is also the principal legit medium in some countries, so a surprising range of titles is available. Also, given it`s ridiculously cheap, there`s a case for getting a movie you might only want to see once on VCD (for less than the price of a cinema ticket) and offsetting the lower movie quality with the cheaper price.

But be warned they come from Malaysia so some bits might be cut out.
Don`t get Scary Move 2 as its only on for about 65mins and not the 83mins it should be. Generally there ok check out eurekamovies.com they have more info on the vcds and most have running time so you can check with the normal time first.
