Retailers in the UK?

Berger (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 26th January 2007, 15:05

For the past years I have been using Play when I order dvd`s online. They are fast, reliable and cheap. And they have p&p included, even when shipping to Norway, where I live. But now they only ship within the UK and I will have to look elsewhere for ordering...

Does anyone know any retailers which are as reliable as Play and with resonable prices??? I have never experienced any trouble with Play and everything has been just great!! :) Many UK dvd`s have norwegian subtitles included which, of course is great. Also music and sports dvd`s are cheaper from UK than in most stores here in Norway.

So I ask you guys. Does anyone have know where I can order safely from!!

Thanks!! :) :) :)

Are you sure they are stopping shipping to Norway, it doesn`t say anything on there site, their delivery policy mentions that they deliver to Norway.

Well, I have tried to place various orders and when I enter my basket it clearly states: "this item can be delivered to an address in the UK". I have ordered many, many dvd`s and have never seen this before.

Maybe it`s because they include p&p, even to Norway, and it proved to be too expencive for them, I don`t know... I have tried to find info on on their site, but have come up short myself. But I think it`s a bit strange, because I reckon they must have a lot of customers outside the UK...

This is copied from my checkout page at Play:

"This item can only be delivered to a UK address".

"There is a problem with your chosen delivery address".
Please review this page before continuing.

"Why do I need to review the delivery address?
Items priced in pounds can only be delivered to UK addresses.
Items priced in euros can only be delivered to European addresses outside the UK".

On the dvd`s I have reviewed so far on Play, they all are in pounds.

You need to click on the EU flag on the left hand side of the home page.

This wil price everything in €`s (at a crap exchange rate) and will enable you to have DVD`s delivered to Norway.

But have you noticed that they have changed their system so they actually take EXTRA from the conversion? They started it a few weeks ago - they used to do a pure real bankrate conversion - and now juice up their income from the Euro by 5-6-7%

This is of course purely wrong - they have NO reason to convert to their own rate - especially when it is not a correct rate. The credit companies do that at honest rates when they previously changed from pounds to Euros - or whatever.

When Play is confronted with the situation - they just say it is `correct` - even when they have been shown they are sometimes using 2 different rates at the same time.

They also recently had a sale where separately items were 2.99 pounds but when you ordered THREE - you got them for 10 pounds!!! And they advertised that as a SALE! Again - when confrontrted - they said and did nothing.

They`re tossing a lot of good rep in the trash

can you play region 1 DVDs ? I use www.dvdboxoffice.com who are a canadian based website with free shipping worldwide.
I`ve been using them for a few years and the service has always been very good. obviously items take a little longer to arrive than from play.com but their prices are always very competitive.

there`s an australian site I`ve used in the past too who are very good but cant remember which one. I very rarely buy dvds from the UK now unless it`s very cheap or some sort of 3 for 2 offer on the high street.

They`ve been messing with the exchange rate since they started this stupid system. What gets me is that I pay on a UK card so get charged a conversion rate as well, so the price I end up paying is nothing like the UK equivalent.

Rare that I use them these days and stick with The Hut and Blah for free delivery international orders. Play have done well out of me (600+ orders) and no doubt many other international customers but no longer.

Berger, have you tried these http://www.axelmusic.com/ they are a Canadian company but operate out of the UK, Denmark and Germany. Although they charge postage they appear to be very reasonable as far as prices go, and they seem to stock a lot of stuff including Dvd Audio and SACD as well.
