"Richer" Sounds..........

Ok guys heres a good one for you... i thought i might treat myself to a new Yammy 520RDS Receiver - currently £249.95 from the Richer Website...... checked with my local store and they want £349.95 for the same model.... a whacking £100 quid difference, surely a mistake i told the lad on the phone..... "no sir overheads" - "overheads?" I replied... what overheads justify £100 squids? - "Its what we are told to tell the customer sir... some of our in store prices are lower than the website" - "by a hundred quid?" - "no sir £5 or £10".......

Feeling pretty pi**ed of at this point at the blatant ripping off occuring here i just told the guy - thanks but no thanks - their wasnt no amount of "personalised customer service" he could give me that would be worth £100 quid, and that Richers had just lost a loyal cutomer of 5 years standing - perhaps Julian should drop the "s" from his surname....

Plus i dont fancy waiting 3 weeks for delivery after countless emails that seems to be the norm with Richers website ordering (according to the threads on here..)

I would have expected a slight difference - but not as massive as that - i dont think i`m being unreasonable here - i am in business so i know the score - used to have a lot of respect for Richers......

Yammy Less......

I recently purchased the Toshiba SD210E from the website. However I did check with the local branch in Brighton (to avoid the delivery delays) and they wanted an extra £40.00.

The delivery from the website took 8 working days and to the credit of Richer Sounds they did refund the delivery charge and extend the warranty to 5 years. It took a few phone calls and e-mails but I found them to be ok to deal with and they appeared to want to keep the customer happy.

I would happily use them again but it appears that the website is the place to use to get the bargains.

They state on the website (or they used to) that if you want to buy at the internet price from a astore, the store will honour the price, plus a 10% surcharge to cover the overheads - I doubt the store wanted to tell you that! I know there`s no love lost between interent and retail Richer stores.

Thats interesting Richard, your right they made no mention of it at all - it was like the guy was reading froma script and could not be made to deviate...

I did have a reply from the email i sent Richer online though - just a load of guff bout the Website prices are cheaper to encourage net sales and that he had no control over the retail shop prices or their overheads claim...

Maybe sour grapes, but i would have thought business was business - now neither of them have my money....

Yeah, thought it was OK at first, but that top banner takes up way too much space.
I wish they`d spent the time and effort improving product information - that`s surely a better way to increase sales.

Yeah, I think the new websites pretty rubbish. The drop down menus are annoying and theres more graphics leading to slow down.

There does appear to be more info on the products though. However I don`t know if it is all correct! Browsing through the DVD players some are stated as not being RCE friendly even though I know for a fact they are and I was told in the Bristol store they are. Other errors include incorrect numbers of scart lead & s-video outputs, DTS/Dolby Digital functions, etc

I`m a little underwhelmed by the new site. It`s incredibly slow, and I`m using 512kb or 2Mb lines to connect.

The 150 quid Limit speaker set looks good for the money if you`ve got a DVD with a decoder.

I was about to buy a Cyberhome AD-L528 from the richer sounds website for £119.99 (without postage), but decided to make the effort to go to the birmingham store instead. They charged me only £99.99 for the same model, a saving of £20 (although the website price has dropped now). I later saw that Wh-smith were charging the same, so had I known, and Richer kept to their price promise, I could have got another £10 off. Their pricing differences do irritate me though, with some offers exculsive to readers of certain magazines, so you never know if you are paying as little as possible. And I don`t like their new website, very slow to load, and lots of confusing icons. The old one was far better. Still, past experiences with them have been good, they will replace faulty or unwanted kit without question.

I`ve just ordered the Cyberhome AD-L528 player from Richer Sounds for £99.00 + £8.99 postage. I hope that this comes quicker than the above coments. I have dealt with them before in a local store here in Sheffield, and found them extremely helpful and honest with their products. They knocked off a whopping £40.00 from a £99 Sony cd player, and a great price on Eltax speakers after presenting the WHAT-HIFI magazine. About prices been cheaper on the internet than in the store; well of course they will do this, they have minimal cost through internet sales, and it does pay to buy the magazines as its like a big voucher!! As to the website, I totally agree that this could do with sorting out. The menu system is stupid and dosn`t always work well, and yes is very slow, but it does the job and will continue to shop at Richers.
