Are DVDPacific the best place to buy R1 DVDs?

Chrono (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 13th July 2006, 14:53

I`ve recently started to buy R1 anime DVDs, mostly boxsets. DVDPacific have the best prices that I`ve seen when it comes to the R1 DVDs I want, even when including P&P.

My first experience with DVDPacific couldn`t have been much better. I ordered a £28 (£35 with P&P) DVD boxset, it arrived in something like 4 or 5 days without any custom charges. Cheap, fast and helpful... If only every site was like DVDPacific.

As you can see, I`m full of praise for DVDPacfic after my first order with them, however... My second order still hasn`t arrived, although in all fairness it has only been a week since they shipped it. Still, I can`t help but to start to worry about losing £57 (damn me for asking for an invoice to be included)... What happens if your item doesn`t arrive when using International Priority Mail (IPA)? It doesn`t sound like they`ll do much if you contact them about it.

It sounds like you got lucky with your first order as DVD Pacific aren`t customs friendly - they once shipped two of my orders together and HMCE stamped a charge on it. In all likelihood your second order has been intercepted at the borders and you will receive a card in the mail telling how much you owe Royal Mail.

In answer to the question `Are DVDPacific the best place to buy R1 DVDs?`, I would say "Yes" as they are my first port of call when I look for an R1 DVD.

Hmm... I kinda assumed they were customs friendly since they marked it down.

I`m starting to hope that customs have got their claws into my second order. Paying around £20 extra I don`t mind, well not as much as losing £57 to a theiving postman anyway.

By the way, don`t they ask for money at the door when collecting customs charges? They did when my NTSC PS2 came about 6 months back.

Wont ever use them again ever.

DVD Pacific now only store your credit card details if you ask them to so there is no chance (if you don`t have your CC details stored) of your credit card being misused. I find them to be extremely fast; for example I placed an order last night just after 9pm and had the dispatch email about half an hour ago. They also have the biggest back catalogue that I know of. Where else are you going to buy such titles as "Cannibal Women of the Avocado Jungle of Death" or "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies"?!

The only way I can see to stop the site keeping your details is to put in false information. Maybe I`m missing an option that lets you remove your default billing info? :¦

Unless my current order goes bye-bye, my only real complaint is how some items seem to stay on order forever. I think they need to clean up the site a little.

As long as my orders don`t start to disappear, I`ll be using DVDPacific lots in the future. =)

A big thumbs down to DVD Pacific.

They let hackers take £18.00 from my debit card and refused to own up or refund me.

They did eventualy own up several weeks later but refused to compensate me for my loss. >:(

Like DVD Pacific allowed hackers to debit your credit card..Jeez..give us a break. The credit card company is the one that compensates you for this type of behaviour. It`s not the company`s fault unless they were negligent and clearly not the case here otherwise DVD Pacific would not be able to accpet credit cards. DVD Pacific are the best in my books! :) :)

Barclays informed me that as it was a debit card they could not refund me.

DVD Pacific confirmed their system was breached and still refused to compensate me, shows how much they cared about their customers. >:(

You should never use a debit card for online purchases. You have no protection unless it has a Visa or Mastercard logo. Use a credit card for anything your doing online. Again though DVD Pacific has no obligation to repay you. Being hacked is not their fault. You don`t seem to understand that. It was like 2 or 3 years ago now in any case. They were then and are now still the best company to deal with online in my personal opinion.
