After-sales service is well important to me.

I know I bang on about them, but the old Encore Direct, owned by Laser UK, was the model hardware retailer. A lot of companies could have learned an awful lot about how to treat their customers when things do go wrong.

Richer Sounds are also pretty top geezers. When I had a very dodgy Harmon Kardon ProLogic amp off them they took time out to talk me thru some testing (they obviously really knew the product) whilst I was on the phone, and then agreed the unit was a duffer. Had a replacement within a few days. Top hole retail outlet, IMHO.

There`s no point in buying a piece of kit if nobody will turn up when it goes tits up on you. If I`m buying a DVD player, video recorder, TV or anything of that sort, I always try to get an extended warranty and I expect to get it fixed if it throws a wobbly.

I`d like to say it`s service that matters the most to me...but I don`t practice what I preach, I`m a cheapskate and usually go for the cheapest, most reliable product I can find and hope it doesn`t go wrong. I`ve been lucky so far. :)
I do occasionally like buying stuff from the high street with the feeling that I can always take it back and see a person face to face if I have a problem.
Actually, I`ve always been extremely lucky with the stuff I buy. Best advice I can give is if you`re ever going to buy something over a tenner, then it`s best to spend half an hour on the web looking for relevant sites giving the merits and de-merits of the product you`re interested in.

I always try to go for price.

But if i have heard bad reports about a companies aftersales service no matter how cheap they are i won`t buy from them. I just dont think its worth the risk.
It costs you more in the long run with all the hassle and time.

Scan being a good example there aftersales is appauling.

To be honest, most companies` don`t realise that it`s not a fault developing that`s the real problem, but the way it`s put right! After-sales service is where it all begins and ends.
