RE: (don`t know how to do those direct links)

Are futureent.com secure?

Was just going to use them but noticed they didn`t have the padlock on the bottom right. Had a quick look at the html (I must admint I don`t understand all of it) but the details didn`t seem to be directed to a https://
They do say they are secure, are they?

Anyone used DVDGo.com?

Are they any good? Their sprices seem OK and they have a few films not available elsewhere.
Or if you know of any other good Non UK R2 retailers.

RE: has any one bought the wicker man wooden box edition from play.com??

I got it from play a while ago; didn`t get taxed.
Unfortunately Achor Bay have letterboxed both versions to 16:9 from a 4:3 source resulting in many scenes looking like the director doesn`t know how to frame a scene properly ;( For this reason alone I don`t rate the release that highly although the picture is about as good as can be expected given the circumstances.

Also it would have been nice if the scene where Willow visits Sgt Howie in his room the morning after "How Do" had been included in the Extended Version.
This is one of my top 10 films so I hope a better release turns up sometime soon (possibly R2?)

RE: www.station711.20m.com has anyone used them

The fact that their website looks like crap and they got films which are not even out on DVD yet (well officially, at least) leads me to the conclusion that they be pirates waiting to get their hands on your bullion.

RE: were can i get the uncut CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST from Cheap???

I`ve never seen this film, but because of a lot of real animal violence all uk versions will be cut considerably.

RE: Whats the first thing u look for when considering a dvd

The film being uncut with a good true to the original transfer is what I look for.
If the audio was originally mono then I don`t care if it stays that way, rather that the often poor simulated 5.1 that has made itself onto some discs. Sometimes I like a director`s commentary, these seem to be better on older films when he/(she?) remembers what happened and puts things in context, rather than the commentary being made at the same time as the film.
Alternative endings made especially for DVD seem pointless, I feel that deleted scenes should be put back into the feature if they are of good quality. I like the language options that dvd has to offer, making of`s are often watchable (though rarely more than that).
As said though, the main thing is the film itself. I look to dvd as a medium to, hopefully, provide a definitive version of the movie (something that couldn`t really happen with vhs.)

RE: Play247 and Amores Perros R1

If it really is important, I`d give play a call. They`ll ask you to send it back to them and you shoul get a refund pretty much directly they recieve it(including the postage charges.)

RE: 28

Was just gonna try that but the site is currently unavailable.

RE: studios consider scrapping widescreen DVD`s

"We could even see old 4:3 material being cropped to fit a 16:9 frame"
Unfortunately this is already happening, the UK release of Evil Dead, Romero`s Day of the Dead (various regions) and the R1 release of The Wicker Man. I have the last 2 of these films, I`m sure there are many more, and it is truly awful, worse than Pan & Scanning 16/9 to full frame..

RE: is there any were i can buy bootleg dvd for a cheap price????

It`d be against the forum rules for me to tell you where to buy them.
In my honest opinion though they really aren`t worth bothering with. A friend of mine gets them from time to time and they are often just vhs captures or worse. Colours are wrong, contrast is bad, everything is washed out, encoding is sometimes blocky, motion is jerky, sound is always stated as 5.1 but rarely truly is. They are some that are good quality but they are definately in the minority. I`d rather buy one official dvd than 2 or 3 silvers leaving the legal issues aside. If you can`t afford official dvd then I`d say stick to vhs cos the quality of silvers is rarely better and could be a lot worse.

RE: DVD-ROM Drive Firmware

You`ll need to flash the bios of the DVD rom with the firmware you downloaded, try here http://www.firmware.fr.st/ and make sure you have the *exact* firmware for your drive. I have done it myself on three drives without problem but it could be a risky procedure, I can`t give exact details on how it is done because it varies from drive to drive but it usually involves working in Dos.
If you are using a software player like Power DVD / WinDVD you`ll also need DVD Genie http://www.inmatrix.com to change the region of your player (freeware).

RE: 3:2 pulldown

Converting FILM running at 23.976 frames per second to NTSC at 29.970 by a process of repeating fields. You can also use the verb to telecine.

RE: do you good people inU:K have220 v power? its a simple question....

Thought it was 230v nowadays in the UK, though it was 240v when I was younger. I don`t think the differences between 220 & 240 will really make a differance as all items should have good tolerance levels.

RE: DangerMouse DVD (Well someone maybe interested)

Strange thing is though play247 say they have it in stock, picture of a tower on the cover and "tower of terror" is one of the episode titles
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=95517
I only noticed cos they`ve got a banner ad for it on their site.

RE: PLAY247.COM out of stock!!

At most, it`ll take a few days after they get it in stock.

RE: What the hell is wrong with play? Last time i use them i think

Maybe a problem with deliveries from america. I don`t think they hold much / any R1 stock.

RE: Region 1, does anyone release earlier than....

I don`t believe they have any kind of rental window scheme in america, play247 are usually able to supply films to your door on or around the same day that they are released in america, perhaps a little before.

RE: " backing up" DVD`s onto CDR

I haven`t had a look at qxl but nine pounds sounds like a complete ripoff as it will just be freeware apps which are available all over the web for nowt.
Don`t get conned.

RE: Horror films that are actually scary

I found that Argento`s "Suspiria" was fairly scarey, especially the ending. The Wicker Man, Romero`s Zombie trilogy, a little known Romero film called Martin. The Devil Rides Out is scary even though it has bad fx.
Also a Disney film called The Watcher in the Woods which is being released by Anchor Bay in the first half of next year is very good.

Day of the Dead - Widescreen

Hi there, I just bought Day of the Dead - Widescreen version today. Compared the previous release by Arrow films I immediately noticed that the picture quality is shaper, the colours are more realistic and vibrant. Then on the opening titles I started to wonder why the text wasn`t smaller than on my full screen version. I got out my old version and realised that the "Widescreen" version actually contained less image as it is the full screen version with the top and bottom trimmed off. It is noticeable in some scenes that the tops of people`s heads are trimmed off and at the beginning when they land in the city you don`t get to see most of the rubbish blowing around on the streets.
Doe`s anyone know what ratio this film was originally filmed in, was it 4:3 or have they trimmed something that was already pan an scanned?

RE: Play 247.com & Terminator : Special Edition

I`ve had about 20 discs from play over the last 3 months, never had any problems with scratches. Had the disc came loose in the packaging as this could cause scratching as it rattles in the box?

RE: Austin Power`s first movie cheap?

Saw it today £9.99 in their Clacton store

RE: PREDATOR 2, REGION 4,IS TOTALLY UNCUT,PLEASE READ

I`ve got the R1 version, it is uncut and has DTS though strangely this isn`t mentioned on the case (there was a sticker on top of the factory seal.) As well as DTS it has Dolby 5.1, Dolby Surround (why?), and Dolby Suround in French. There is also another R1 release without the DTS though when I bought mine, they were both the same price at play247.

RE: Whats the last DVD everyone bought?

Theatre of Death
£7.99 @ play247

RE: Sale at MVC

At my local MVC, a lot of the sale items are mixed in with all the normal (expensive!) priced goods and not actually displayed in the sale section. I got the Tartan Terror version of Night of the Living Dead for £7.99.

RE: Predator 2 censor query

Just had a look at interDVDs site, £29 is a bit much for any dvd if you ask me.

It is only £16.63 at amazon.fr

http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000056OCC/qid=993844797/sr=1-1/171-4494088-4271433?tag=myrev09-21

or better still about £14.98 at

RE: The Wicker Man

Darn, it looks like I`ll be stuck with my filmfour version for some time then. I thought anchor bay were supposed to have a good reputation for finding the most complete versions of films.

:o( indeed

RE: The Wicker Man

"The original film was burnt"

I read that it was buried by a motorway somewhere. Anyway, can`t wait.

RE: BANNED IN THE UK

http://www.melonfarmers.co.uk is a good site with a lot of info on banned films / cuts and the BBFC.

By the time I posted someone beat me to it.
