CD WOW charging customs for r2, is this a mistake?

peter parker (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 26th June 2004, 22:31

i have been looking at a couple of boxsets from cd wow (smallville series 2 and angel the new one) but although they are r2 thay are still warning that i could receive a customs charge......... is this right? i was under the impression that customs can only nab you for non european regions that are over £18.00. >:(

I thought that customs weren`t interested in regions of DVDs, just the value.

They`re interested in (a) the value and (b) where the package is coming from. If it`s over £18 and coming from outside the EU (I think CD WOW are in Hong Kong), they`ll nab you. :(

They`re not concerned about DVD region coding, though - that`s just an invention of the Hollywood studios, it has no basis in law.

Unfortunately it is true but after emailing them about it recently just to doublecheck they said they were looking at ways to counter this and hoped to have something ready in the near future

I`m assuming this is most likely importing it into Britain or Europe (not sure which) and then having it forwarded on with no risk of tax to the buyer

The original post mentioned boxed sets, they`re usually over £18.
