CD-WOW Customs Charges?

Wellerboy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 4th December 2002, 07:03

I was thinking of ordering some games from CD-Wow and was wondering if anyone else had ordered any and got hit by customs?

Their site now issues a message telling you that you may be charged
and if thats the case I might as well get them elsewhere.

Thanks in advance..

Their packages have Hong Kong postmarks so anytime you order a DVD over £18:00 you take the risk of getting hit by customs.

Read this thread about ordering from Play.com as essentially it is the same (both sites shipping their products from outside the EU) http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=222&Thread=134017&Type=1

Good customer service and reasonable delivery speed.

Have you thought of ordering from any of the Australian DVD sites mentioned on this forum?
Some of them tick the other box on the Customs declaration. They most likely keep games too.

I ordered a while ago the Season 1 of the Sopranos from EzyDVD, it was around the £30 mark, but EzyDVD wrote on the custom form that the contents had a value of £18, maybe a way to avoid the Custom thing. I would suggest that from wherever you order your stuff check with the customer services if they do that.

Hello.

Up until recently I have never been on the receiving end of customs. Unfortunately they got me on a game from CDWow, for which they charged me £9.45 (seems a bit much, don`t you think!) on a £31.99 game. So, the game ended up being dearer than me going to my local shop.

I`m still a tad sick about it but I suppose all the savings I`ve made in the past more than make up for it (I`ll keep telling myself that, I`ll keep telling myself that...)

Bugger!

The charge on a £30.00 item would be approximately £9.27 ( made up of Customs Charge £5.42 and Consignia Clearance Fee £3.85.) If it is a large bulky item which needs to be delivered by Parcel Force rather than your Postman then the Clearance Fee jumps to around £8.00

This would suggest that CD Wow are now probably either putting the wrong value on the customs dec, or shipping items over £18 in value from within the UK or another part of the EU.
