Getnet GR-543W router help..

Strangerer (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 23rd March 2013, 18:05

Hello I`m not too hot on the settings for this router. I had it password set once and cannot remember for the life of me how I did it. Would one of you techies be able to scan the manual(available online) and let me know how to set it with a password again. The nearest I have been able to secure it is hiding the broadcast of my SSID. Thanks in advance.

If you can`t remember the password, you`ll probably have to do a reset with a paperclip to get it back to factory settings.

Its not the fact I don`t remember the password. I had done a firmware update because I heard it dealt with some issues with the PS Vita`s connection issues I was having. This then undid all of my settings for my router and left me having to set it up again. So now I have given it a new SSID but hidden the broadcast of it. So no one looking for access points will see it but if you type it in you gain access. How safe is doing this ? Surely not seeing it as an access point is just as safe as seeing it and guessing passwords.

Lol no. Not broadcasting the ssid makes little to no difference and the network is completely visible to most network tools bar the wifi scanner. Relying on that is completely insecure!
