I-tunes question (multiple players)

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 12th February 2009, 10:16

Our daughter wants an i-pod for her birthday.
I already have an i-touch and itunes loaded on my PC.
What happens with her one though?
Is it possible to have two seperate itunes accounts loaded onto the same PC?
Or do we just plug her i-pod into `my` itunes?
If the latter, how do we only sync over what she wants? :/

I created two playlists and set one for each ipod if that makes sense. Do a search for mulitple ipods or similar, that`s how I found it. I don`t buy things from itunes though.

Could someone please
Remove these cutleries
From my knees...

i have an iphone & an ipod video, nothing changes in itunes whe you add another device, ll the playlists remin the same, & you can synch any of your plylists to any device, slong as that device is "registered" on that pc (done automatialy when you first plug it in)

for instance, my 8gig iphone only really has the stuff i`m listening to on a day to day asis, ut the ipod video (30 gig iirc) has most of my recent audio books on + most of my music, all tht happens is the second device shows up in itunes just like your first device does, & you just choose which playlists/vids etc that you wanna synch etc.

hope this helps :)

EDIT= btw, i recomend either the iphone or the touch for day to day use, i find these have better battery life than the hard drive based video models, + imo, the gui is miles better, although i wuld imagine the nano should have good battery life as it also uses flash memory.

Ah, right, making an `Amy playlist` didn`t occur to me, thanks for that. 8)
Presumably though, I would have to change something in the sync settings?
I`m pretty sure it`s just set to sync `any and all` items just now, rather than manually selecting stuff?

When you plug the ipod in, on the `Music` tab for it, you can say sync all music, or just tick one/multiple playlists.

you wouldnt specificaly have a different place for "amy`s playlists" rather you would just create playlists exactly the same way you do now, all the playlists will be selectable for both devices, when you click on the individual device you just synch the playlists you want, if you look at the pick below where you see my ipod, if i had my iphone with me & plugged it in it would just apear directly underneath it.

for example, when you click on your touch ipod, you get the screen "bowfers ipod" it`ll be exactly the same with the new device.

Never occurred to me that this would be a problem.
My daughters Ipod and Itunes just comes up with her library when on her Windows user account and mine comes up on mine.

thts becuse you have to physical instllations of i-tunes, on different windows login`s even tho it`s the same pc, it see`s them as seperate programs, but on a pc where the main user account is shared, both devices will register into the same i-tunes account, & as such will share the same selection of playlists.

Hold down Shift when you open itunes and keep it held down till a window pops up

This allows you to create a new library
When you load itunes next time you will then need to hold down Shift an select which library you wish to use each time

I have created 2 libraries for myself and my wife and it works a treat
