Page 1 of Anti viruse software - what to use
PCs & Mobiles Forum
ATM i have a dell 1525 laptop (Vista), a very old but still working medion desktop (XP), & in the morning I`m hoping to have a Samsung NC10 (XP) netbook delivered :D
Both the medion & the dell are running McAfee security software
They both run out soon, & I`m not keen on renewing the licences.
I got the install discs cheap, I think it was only about a fiver for each disc.
The renewal is over £30 for each machine & that, according to McAfee is discounted.
The netbook has a trail version of McAfee on it too.
So, I`m on the lookout for a 3 user licence security software.
Kaspersky Internet Security v8.0 2009 looks like it fits the bill, but
BitDefender Internet Security 2009
is looking to be the front runner, because I`ve used an older version of BitDefender before
If anyone has any suggestions as to other software, I`d be grateful for some assistance :)
Thanks all
p.s.
Happy Christmas to all :)
RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
I use AVG, as do an awful lot of people on here. It`s free (which is the only price I`ll pay for anti-virus and firewall software). I`ve never had a serious virus problem.

RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
i didnt get on well with AVG so i`ve just installed AVAST and think its great. I`ve also heard positive things about AVIRA.(both free of course) just have a look on download.com and see whats there.
McCrappy is very resource hungry so both the above shouldnt slow yr pc down. :)
RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
I have been using and recomending TrendMicro for years now, it is fantastic, has never let me down nor anyone I know even after they had terrible virus problems (most of which were using AVG at the time).
I am quite happy to pay for internet security as would be devistated if I lost our photo collection or documents because of a virus. (Yes they are backed up too)
With trend you buy a license number that you can install on up to 3 computers for about £45 for 1 year or £60 for 2 years. Then you download the latest version. If halfway through your license a new version comes out, as it usually does, you can download that too free of charge.
All the best
Gerald.
RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
I used to be a free AVG fan, but switched to Avast Free a while ago as it was less bloaty and system hungry. Both do the job fine IMHO.
RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
I use AVG and never had any problems.
EDIT: Make sure you uninstall whatever virus checker you have BEFORE installing another. This is very important.

RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
I have used and recommended Avast for years. AVG is also very poular but does not support IMAP, which I use.
Download the McAffee Removal Tool and run it to completely remove McAffee before installing any other AV product.

RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
Still AVG tbh, although imo the newest version is more bloaty, i tried Avast, it works fine, but i couldn`t get along with it, i also recently tried Avira (also free) & really liked it, but every so often it bugs you to "go pro" not a big deal, & as Avira personal is free, i`m certainly not complaining, but ended up back with AVG, less hassle, free, & as good as any other anti-virus out there (free or otherwise)
if you really want a comercial program, heres my list, in order of preference.
Kaspersky.
Trend.
Panda.
i used to use the trend & panda free "live" scanner progs once a week alongside AVG, but they never found anything that AVG missed, & once my Hard drive`s got around the 2TB mark, i stopped bothering with the extra scans as it took all night lol :)

RE: Anti viruse software - what to use
I have used free AVG for years and it works a treat, heard good things about Avast though not tried it myself.
Plenty of free software here folks.
