I`m after Free Video editting software, and I`m not a spammer : )
occasionally if there`s several things on TV at one I want to watch, I use a USB DVB-TV card to record show, which records as MPEG-2.
I`d like to use something quick and easy to just edit the files to remove bits I record before the program starts, after it ends, and remove the adverts. I`m not bothered about converting it to another format, I`ve briefly played with Super to do that, just want to do some very simple editting.
Any recommendations, for XP or Linux.
Cheers
Al

Windows movie maker. If it`s a format the editor can recognize and edit, job`s a good-un. Clipping bits out is the easiest part.

Problem is that Movie Maker won`t handle MPEG2 unfortunately.
Some forms of VirtualDub might be able to handle it, so worth googling for that + MPEG2.
Since you can set start & end frames and simply output video & audio streams as they are (ie no re-coding).
Apart from that, not aware of any other free MPEG2 editing software.

Cheers guys, tried the XP one, it will edit the mpg, but you can only output to .wmv, I want to keep as mpg (or could convert to avi, but want to keep it quick) as the idea is (I forgot to mention this bit earlier) I then copy the editted file to a memory card, or burn it as a file to disc to watch on my standalone divx dvd player.
Virtualdub has come up in my google searches, and I remember tinkering with that years ago. Someone else has mentioned kinodv (Linux) which i think I played with before before, I`ll give that a go to.
Cheers

Looks to be more hassle than it`s worth!
virtualdub I couldn`t get it to output to mpeg, could out put to something else but want it done quick and easy.
kinodv won`t import mpeg
avidemux (Linux) did the editing and saving well, but playback audio started to go out of sync.
Cinelerra (linux) - couldn`t get that to work
Pitivi (Linux) kept crashing
Kdenlive - crashed a few times, looked promising too :(
tried some demos of some other Windows thing but had sound sync issues

I always use a free programme called Mpeg2Schnitt which is a very basic editor which will cut out sections such as averts etc. Because it only cuts and reassembles the content and does not re-encode the operation is very fast. Might be worth a try.
