Windows XP OS

The Jackal (Elite) posted this on Friday, 19th September 2008, 12:55

Where is the cheapest place to get it? I have kindly been given a PC for my daughter to play about on but when I went to do the updates it turns out the OS is not legit.

Sooooo I am after the cheapest place to get XP to put onto her PC.

I found it for about £60 but was hoping i could get it cheaper.

Cheers in advance

Dont know the answer to that , but maybe consider something like Puppy Linux for free. It is small, fast and a lot safer for your daughter to play around on with out getting riddled with spyware and viruses.

One OEM licence for XP Home is £58.74 over at Overclockers.
£55.04 at Ebuyer.

But that`s around the normal price I`d expect.

Cheapest I can find is OEM at £57 but that`ll need a cheap hardware purchase along with it at cclonline.com + p&p as well.

I agree with sash, maybe worth sticking a version of Linux on there...or never connect it to the internet so you won`t need to worry about updates.

This happened to me too, ages ago. It`s what sent me down the Linux route. We thought we were legit until the updates gave us WGA...

I say give Linux a go. Try out Mandriva, or even Ubuntu if you`re happy to change the theme yourself from brown to something...not brown! If you do give it a go, pop on here and tell us how you find it. You might need some help setting up DVD and MP3 stuff if you`ve never used it before.

Do you actually have an XP disc? It might be worth giving Bill a ring if you have, since it`s been known to be wrong...
