Page 1 of Broadband throttling...

At least I now know why my BT broadband speeds are crap.
According to their fair use policy I`m one of the "...very few customers who make inappropriate use of our service".
Basically from what I can see if you download stuff inside their peak hours (5pm to 11pm from what I can see) then they`ll throttle your connection.
Thankfully I don`t pay for the connection, but its still annoying.
Should have opted for the second phone line when offered it, and then had 2 ADSL connections installed.
i`ll take `schedule your downloads after 11pm` for £200.

RE: Broadband throttling...
My experience with BT Broadband was terrible. Their connection speeds were hugely inconsistent and I suffered with constant dropouts (as well as throttling when it was working).
Have Sky Broadband now and it`s probably the best service I`ve ever had.

RE: Broadband throttling...
Correct answer Nick...
However, given the s***e speeds, I`ve taken to downloading at other times when its faster (e.g. Prison Break on a Tues morning 7am... downloads in 5 mins) this is apparently out of peak times.
But I reckon I`ve probably just exceeded whatever monthly limit they want to impose (even though I`m on BT Business Option 2 - "unlimited downloads") - but we all know how the ISP`s define "unlimited".
Try plus.net`s teleworker plan. It was excellent when I was on it.
Also, the service I get from AOL now is superb. Admittedly, its only been 3 months, but its faster than plus.net was and the service hasnt been down once yet.

Still got to decide whether I put up with it and let my work pay the £30 a month charge...or stop being a tight git and pay for it myself :D

if your in a cabled area, you might be interested to know free speed increases are "coming soon" (tho, tbh they have been saying that since November :) ) if your thinking about jumping ship :)

No mention of 50Mb upgrade yet :(
RE: Broadband throttling...
I would recommend checking out idnet if you are considering a new isp. I recently changed over to their premium service with a 60gb limit, priority traffic, zero throttling. Ping times have never been better and downloads never faster.
