Hi it could be that the phone is faulty or has been blocked by the network provider. Has anyone reported it as lost if so you should be able to get it unblocked. If you bought it second hand the previous owner could have reported it as stolen and claimed on insurance. Also, if someone had this phone on contract and then sold it on, and stopped paying the bills the network would block the phone.

Try to do a manual Network search, on a Nokia phone that`s Menu - Settings - Network - Operator Selection tab (change to Manual from Automatic) it should then search and give you a selection list, choose the one you want and see if that helps?

If not, it could be a conflict between the SIM and the phone i`ve just had this with a N70 on 3 Mobile where by i had no 2G reception but did have 3G where and when it was available the SIM initially worked on both 2G and 3G for a few days then packed up so i had a replacement SIM which did the same, 3 eventually gave me a new N73 as replacement saying there were no known issues with the N73 which now works fine with my second SIM that didn`t work in the N70.

Try swapping SIMs over between phones to eliminate the SIM or the Phone if it appears to be the SIM then contact the Network provider and ask for a replacement SIM card
