I started with a 3Com wireless router, and although it set up fairly easily it kept going wrong and I was forever downloading the firmware to reset the damn thing. In the end I sent it back and got a Netgear DG834G, which has worked perfectly since the day I set it up. That`s about 5 months now, I think.

It`s got a built in modem, plus it`s firewalled. Very simple set up screens. What more can I say?

Another vote for the Netgear. I`ve been using mine for a couple of years and no problems at all.

I`ve also got the very same Netgear :D

Only recently got it on the recommendation of my brother. If you look at reviews it scores very highly (got mine from Amazon, look at customer reviews there)

I am on cable (NTL) & this is what I have got. Its only £39.99 for the router and a usb adapter.
I am a novice and still managed to set it up without any help.
