games taken off works computer

The Minister (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 17th October 2006, 19:17

they have taken the games (freecell, hearts etc) off the works computers but i want them back. can i put them on a cd from my home computer and out them back on the works machine. Would it just be the exe file i need or would it be a few other files that would need coping. Also anyone know were i could get other little games like the above so i could put them on as well.

thanks

Are websites like www.mousebreaker.com not an option?
By putting them back on there you`re probably breaking their IT usage policy which (if they really wanted to) they could use as an excuse to give you a warning (or worse)...so its worth just thinking about that before doing it.

But in answer to your question, yes I believe its just the exe files you would need to copy (find them in C:\Windows\System32)

That is assuming the VB runtime files are installed (which they should be on most PCs)

these have most likely been removed by group policy and some sort of software restriction policy that you won`t be able to get around

And trying to get around it could lead to at least a disciplinary.

If you have got lazy sys admins then they may have just taken away the shortcuts. The .exe files should still be in the system32 folder.

Failing that, just copy them from your own system32 folder and rename them. You can rename freecell.exe to myarse.exe and it still works, which should bypass any restrictions they have placed on your system.

I dont have a technical answer as to how you can find the games on your machine or how to get the games back onto the PC but what I would say is you are there to work not play games... :p

I live in hope of the day that helldesk pass me a call that states...

User cannot access Freecell application.

Almost as bad as helldesk passing me a call for a users own personal digital camera to be connected to a NT box via USB, on a site where digital cameras were forbidden on pain of UB40 benefit.

Mind you this was a major BC co that one of two people on the same day they were due to collect redundancy of £30K+ for:

Smearing faeces on door handles.
Pouring alcohol into a water dispenser.

They never stated which one was caught & for doing what. Neither would I want to be the one to explain to the Other half, that the finance for the retirement villa in Spain had just evaporated.

I won`t tell you about the time someone sent medical grade heroin through the Royal Mail or how persons unknown pushed\carried a tablet press through the barrier (raised by security to assist them) & watched them load it into their car.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.
